An advertising agency has been hired by a manufacturer of pens of develop an advertising campaign for the upcoming holiday season. To prepare for this project, the research director decided to initiate a study to the effect of advertising on product perception. An experiment is designed to compare five different advertisements. Advertisement A greatly undersells the pen’s characteristics. Advertisement B slightly undersells the pen’s characteristics. Advertisement oversells the pen’s characteristics.
Advertisement D greatly oversells the pen’s characteristics. Advertisement E Attempts to correctly state the pen’s characteristics.
A sample of 30 adult respondents, taken from a larger focus group, is randomly assigned to the five advertisements (so that there are six respondents to each). After reading the advertisement and developing a sense of product expectation, all respondents unknowingly receive the same pen to evaluate. The respondents are permitted to test the pen and the plausibility of the advertising copy. The respondents are then asked to rate the pen from 1 to 7 on the product characteristic scales of appearance, durability, and writing performance. The combined scores of three rating (appearance, durability, and writing performance) for the 30 respondents are stored in Pen. These data are:
a. At the 0.05 level of significance, is there evidence of a difference in the
b. Compare the results of (a) with those of Problem 11.10 (a) on page 413.
c. Which test is more appropriate for these data: the Kruskal-Wallis rank test or one-way ANPOVA F test? Explain.

They had participants complete a scale to measure phone dependence (e.g., I would have trouble getting through a normal day without my phone) and classified them as high or low in dependence. They then analysed working memory task performance in a 2 (location: outside, desk) x 2(dependence: high, low) ANOVA. In this design, "dependence" is a(n) O a. Independent variable O b. Patients were selected to participate in the study based on their stage of Alzheimer's disease. Three forms of music were tested: Easy listening, Mozart, and piano interludes. While listening to music, agitation levels were recorded for the patients with a high score indicating a higher level of agitation. Scores are recorded below. Data for 89 patients are summarized below: Self-Report Facial Expression No Pain Pain No Pain 17 40 Pain 3 29 We'd like to determine if there is evidence of an association between a facial expression that reflects pain and self-report pain, because dementia patients do not always give a verbal indication that they are in pain. By using SPSS or Minitab, design the appropriate test and generate the data analyses. Relate the results of the test to the research question and conclude the findings.arrow_forward
