Introduction:
There are two types of collision: elastic and inelastic. The momentum remains conserved in both but kinetic energy does not remain conserved in inelastic type of collision.
When the two cars collide and completely stop, it is an inelastic collision. The kinetic energy does not remain conserved and dissipates as heat and sound.
