Introduction:

Chlamydiaeare pathogenic bacteria that require host cells for their growth. They obtain nutrients and metabolites such as amino acids, lipids, nucleotides, etc from the host cells. When they are allowed to grow in coculture, they show retarded growth if host cells are unable to provide them with all the necessary nutrients and metabolites they require for their normal growth. Also, if the concentration of certain amino acids is high then also chlamydia will show suppressed growth as these amino acids act as competitive inhibitors for the amino acid valine across the transporter BrnQ.
