Summary Introduction

To review:

Definition of the following biological terminologies:

1. Metabolic pathway

2. Anabolic pathway

3. Catabolic pathway

4. Glycolysis

5. Signal transduction pathway

Introduction:

A biological cell undergoes various reactions through a number of metabolic pathways. These reactions are essential as they involve the release of energy, which is further needed for the survival of the cell. Destructive reactions are carried out by the catabolic pathway. The anabolic pathway is constructive in nature. The production of pyruvate, using glucose, is glycolysis. The pathways used by cells for information transfer are signal transduction pathways.

True or False.  The Krebs cycle is considered to be an anabolic pathway because some of the reactions are considered reversible.
QUESTION 1 1.1 Draw a schematic diagram of the components of the electron transport chain, depicting the enzymes and components of the chain. The site of inhibition of well known inhibitors should also be indicated 1.2 Draw a diagram of the antioxidant metabolism involved in reactive oxygen species (superoxide, hydroxyl free radicals and hydrogen peroxide) with the electron transport chain as the origin.
The amino acids glutamine and glutamate are central toamino acid metabolism. Explain.
