Expert Solution
Step 1

Every cell has an electric potential difference between inside and outside of the cell under the resting condition which makes the inside of the cell more negatively charged as compared to the outside of the cell. This charge difference between inside and outside of the cell is called resting membrane potential and it is separated by the cell membrane and it ranges between -60 to 90 mV. The cell membrane of the cell regulates the movement of ions and molecules crossing inside or out of the cell. As the cell membrane is a phospholipid bilayer, the only molecule which can diffuse through the hydrophobic core is passed without any help but of the molecule, like-charged ions pass through the transmembrane protein, channel proteins, pumps.
