Introduction

The kinetic molecular theory, also known as the KMT, is an essential concept in modern science. It explains the behavior of gasses and other particles on a microscopic level. KMT states that all matter is composed of tiny particles that are in constant, random motion. These particles interact with one another only through brief, instantaneous collisions. The KMT further states that the pressure of a gas is the result of the collective impact of these incessant collisions. Temperature, in turn, is related to the average kinetic energy of particles, with an increase in temperature being associated with an increase in the average kinetic energy of particles. Finally, the KMT explains the ideal gas law, which states that the pressure of a gas is directly proportional to its temperature and the number of molecules present.
