From cooking breakfast and brewing coffee, you are tasked to document the procedure using Process Flow Diagram (PFD). And using this procedure, PFD, create an efficient kitchen layout.
Workplace Scenario:
Mother starts the day at 6am to prepare breakfast for the family. Breakfast food consists of 1 viand and rice and brewed coffee. The sequence of preparing breakfast starts with the cooking of the rice which is followed by the cooking of the viand and ends with the preparation of the coffee.
Given Steps / Procedure:
Mother measures and washes the rice then sets the rice cooker to "cook mode". These actions take 5mins. Rice cooker is on cook mode for 30mins. Mother opens a can of processed meat, cuts this into 8 pieces and places the cut meat in a casserole. These actions take 5mins. The processed meat is boiled for 15mins. After which mother scoops the meat and sets these down on the plate for 2 minutes. Mother now focuses on the last task. Mother scoops up coffee into the coffee maker and pours 3 cups of water into it – which takes 3mins. The coffee maker is ready with the hot aromatic coffee after 10mins.

- 5. Flo's Quick-Lube performs fast oil changes (A) and checks for tire pressure and wear (B) and brakes and alignment (C) according to the process flow indicated by the diagram below. Each incoming car is put on a jack while one technician performs task A and another simultaneously performs task B and a third performs task C (which must follow task B due to the limited space under the vehicle on the jack). The server for task A takes on average 3 minutes to process a job, the server for task B takes on average 2 minutes to process a job, and the server for task C takes on average 2 minutes to process a job. Server A can be operated in parallel with Servers B and C. All processing times are random and exponentially distributed, and jobs are allowed to queue in front of each server. (You can assume that the number of jacks is sufficient to allow any length of queue.)
