George Orwell once said “writing is like giving birth, because all my stories are my babies”! When I first saw this quote, I thought to myself “well, I had a baby earlier this year and it certainly was nothing like writing”! However, when I thought about it a little harder, the process of writing this research document has been a long and thoughtful experience. I say this simply because it isn’t a breeze. It’s not an assignment you can walk through with ease. This is an assignment that takes a lot of thought, research, opinion, and review. So, in a sense Orwell wasn’t to far off with his analogy. Before I went in labor I did research. I had to take my opinions and my research, review it, and figure out how I wanted to go about it. Did I want to go natural? Did I want to have a cesarian or push? It’s a process even before the contractions. In writing, the contractions begin once you get to the final draft of your paper. The only thing is, you can’t get an epidural to make it easier! Lorde is the perfect example of a sense of “community”. Being a feminist does not necessarily mean sitting around and putting men down or belittling them. It simply consists of women who strive to be EQUAL to everyone else. Being part of this community means being aware. It means that as a woman, I must strive for what I want most, and while striving, keeping in mind that I have the same opportunities as everyone else, and if I don’t, then I know that I will fight for what I want, no hesitation.
