PART 1: PREWRITING Activity A: Analyze a Task 1. David’s primary purpose in sending a message is to inform the reader that the car company will not honour the customer’s claim. The writer’s priority is to inform the reader that the company would like to honour the claim, but point out that it could not happen because the warranty is expired. 2. David’s secondary purpose in sending a message is to promote goodwill on behalf of the company. She could have searched manually or electronically for the names of the board members and officers, and their occupations. She also may have investigated the primary sources such as the local school board, to conduct research on how grant money will be allocated. 13. Mary would have used informal research methods such as looking into files to get the company name, address, etc., and the registration number. She may have consulted her superior for information on the specifics of the project.
