Leadership and service, both as part of and in a community, invariably determine the result of actions taken, and ultimately, the success of such a community. Leadership is about taking the first step while service revolves around taking the necessary steps that result. I am a passionate student mainly because during my life I have seen firsthand the effects of not working hard and momentarily losing hope. My goal is to harness my past experiences as motivation to improve the lives and care for others effectively. That is why I believe that I am capable of making it into the National Honors Society, because I don’t just see this program as a place for me to brag about my accomplishments. I see this program as a place to grow in all four pillars. Scholarship and service run hand in hand with one another because they both are involved in care. Learning how to care about one’s self and learning how to care about others is something that has to be balanced.
Waking up on a daily basis and making real of what i have to face is my motivation. Living with a family who neglected me and not getting help when I needed it the most are some reasons that have never stopped me achieving my goals in life. My father would punish my siblings and me by making us go days without eating. There were times were I was too weak to even go to school. On the other hand, extracurricular activities have always been a part of what made me feel like I had a family. Being part of a team means that people are there to support and encourage, even if a person has history with another. I believe that I should be selected to receive this incredible scholarship award because I am a natural leader and an ambitious individual who possesses an astonishing amount of perseverance. My ambitious nature has allowed me to excel both academically and personally. In high school, I took initiative over my education by enrolling in the most difficult classes available. However, I have taken an even greater initiative by graduating from high school an entire year early. By doubling up on courses and taking classes outside of the regular school day, my dream of graduating early has become my reality. I attribute this exceptional achievement to my strong desire to achieve.

Being brought up in a military family, I knew what it meant to serve. Many of the influential men in my life dedicated themselves to the service of others. For the majority of my life, I believed that I too would follow in the footsteps of my father, uncles, and grandfathers before me. I wanted to help other just as they had, and imagined myself enlisting in the Air Force when I “grew up”. As I matured, I discovered that there are numerous ways to serve those around me outside of the military.

Freshman year, I became fascinated about different cultures specifically South Korea, and I’ve come to appreciate them and continue to expand my knowledge on them in order spread the knowledge to my community on how gaining proficiency in a language, culture and literature other than our own is crucial in helping us develop critical, aesthetic, and creative sensibilities necessary for global citizenship. The Intelligence Community – Center of Academic Excellence Scholars Program (IC-CAE) seems to me like an organization that I will help me flourish my comprehension of Global Security and International Affairs and gain the experience needed to have a career in it.
“In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure” (Bill Cosby). Reflecting back on my life I have dealt with numerous downfalls but I always bounce back. I was born in India and moved here when I was six years old. As I grew up in California I was not a bright student at first. I was enrolled in Carmichael Elementary in which I was the only one with Turban on my head, which caused me to get into a lot of fights with other students who were making fun of turban. Not knowing how to speak English at the time affected the way interacted with teachers and students. On the other hand my family always had a tight budget at home. Both of my parents worked at the store we owned which was the only source money. At school kids were always talking about their new shoes and the iPod which his or her parents got them. I didn’t get everything I wanted as a kid but as I got older I understand if did I could be a spoiled brat. When I moved from Carmichael to Sacramento and I was enrolled at Maeola R. Beitzel elementary. Going to this new school I already learned English so I made marvelous friends and was surrounded by positive people. Going from a chaos environment to this harmonious environment in part because I was speaking English, made me have unique personality .I was playing sports and growing as a student. Those years went by in no time. Now I am in high school and my family’s income has been growing. My mom changed her work to now at Jack in
