While education can open many doors, success relies on initiative. I have the desire and the determination, but lack the financial backing needed to achieve my goal of becoming a registered nurse. This scholarship would award me an opportunity to pursue the career of my dreams; a career rooted in service. My desire is to give a little bit extra and do a little bit more. A scholarship would allow me to make a difference in the ever changing, and challenging, world of health care. Help by reducing financial concerns, means more time for studying and learning, which can lead to better grades and retention of knowledge and increase my chances for continuing on to graduate school. A scholarship can make a big difference in how much time and resources
Going into the nursing program at Colorado Christian University means so much to me. I have been to a couple different colleges but at that time I wasn’t sure what I wanted to go for. Now, I know exactly what my goal is and what I want to achieve with school. I currently work as a Hospice CNA, I love my job. I will be the first out of my parents and mothers side of the family to graduate from a four year college. Also, being a nurse is something I’ve always dreamed about. Working as a hospice CNA has really made me value life and has opened my eyes to nursing. I love being there for my patients and their families. I truly feel like this is my purpose on earth to help others. I feel so rewarded to be able to take care of these people that cannot
As my senior year comes around, it has become more real to me that I have to take charge of my future. I deserve and need this scholarship just as I need oxygen to breathe. Being the first in my family to attend college or even have the idea in their head means I’m on my own to discover what to do to get into college and how to come up with the means. I
I started my medical career as an Emergency Medical Technician with the Hawaii Army National Guard (HIARNG). After several years, nearing the end of my contract with HIARNG, I was offered to renew my enlistment contract with the opportunity to go back to school and to become a Registered Nurse (RN). The HIARNG, through the G.I. Bill Program, assisted me in my quest of becoming an RN. After enduring personal and financial sacrifices, I finally graduated from Kapi'olani Community College with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) in 2003.
Please accept my candidacy for the Patient Care Director position on 14 South. I am confident that through my professional experience, committee memberships and education, I have developed the knowledge, skills and leadership abilities necessary to be a successful addition to your leadership team.
After graduating from Elk City High School I plan to go to the Southwestern Community College on the Sayre campus. I would like to go to school for nursing and become a registered nurse. I plan to go to SWOSU for four years to achieve the goals I have set for myself. I have always had an interest in the medical field, even as a child. Helping others has always been something I love to do. I feel going to college and becoming a nurse would allow to help a great deal of people and hopefully touch many others. After graduating College I plan to use me degree and get a job in the nursing field. I plan to start my life and support myself and become a productive member of society. I personally feel I should be considered for this scholarship because

Have been a nurse since 1983, first as an L.P.N., A.A.S, working in between then obtained my B.S.N in 2000. Currently working in a Surgical Intensive care unit, before that 16 years in a cardio thoracic intensive care unit. Have one son who is 39 yrs. old and a 17 year old granddaughter. Attempted to attend college for my Master's degree and had to withdraw in order to care for my mother who has Alzheimer's.
When I was growing up I was sure of three things: I had a family who loved me, I loved to read and when I grew up, I wanted to be a pediatrician. My favorite toy to play with as a child was my doctor's kit. I loved using my plastic stethoscope, taking temperatures and wrapping up the body parts of my family members, but I did not have any friends who were as passionate about medicine as I was. The first time I heard of a little girl who wanted to be a doctor as much as I did was when I read the Judy Moody book series. Just reading about a girl who aspired to be like Elizabeth Blackwell was inspiring to me.
I have four main goals: never have any debt, help pay for my three nieces’ and two nephews’ college expenses, give my time and money to society and be successful in a graphic design career. Financial resources are limited with my family of ten living on one income. This makes it hard to not have any debt while in college. Winning this scholarship will minimize the amount of student loans I would need to take out for living and educational expenses. Having less debt will allow me to put more money into my nieces’ and nephews’ college savings.
It is a duty that I graduate college with an abundant education so that I can help my family, sustain myself in life, and be affluent within society. Receiving this scholarship will definitely place me in a powerful position to become a step closer towards accomplishing my first career goal of becoming a registered nurse. The process of applying to college has been very strenuous on my mother and I. Unfortunately; I wasn’t one of the students to receive full scholarships from colleges or grants. My mom and I had to apply for loans, which she later got denied for. The stress of worrying about being admitted to college and receiving some financial aid has caused some disappointments. However, I am determined to receive an education and apply
I’m fortunate to have a preceptor, who I see as a strong nurse leader, who assists me in increasing my professional insight by allowing me to take care of the unit with her guidance. I’m taking this opportunity to develop the skills I needed to become a future leader. I’m working on my future leadership roles today to contribute to patient safety and quality of care now and on the future. At the student nurse level, I establish leadership skills by being hands-on. I demonstrate self-confidence, improve my communication, thinking and reasoning skills and recognize my needs for personal and professional development. I am self-motivated and I show the staff my interest in
Growing up, I strived to always look out for others. Being adopted by great godparents who helped me when relatives wouldn’t really opened my eyes. For me, nursing will be far more than an occupation or career choice, it is my calling. I earned my bachelor’s in biology at Benedictine University in hopes of preparing me for a variety of careers in the healthcare field. I have always had a passion for helping people, especially those in need, and so I pursued a master’s degree in public health at University of Illinois.
If I were fortunate enough to receive this scholarship, I’d be overjoyed to continue my education to become a nurse. Thinking back to middle school, comparing the insecure girl lacking confidence to pursue her passions, to who I am now, I couldn’t recognize her. Now, I set my mind to something and don’t stop until I accomplish my goal. This mindset has come from running track because it has easily been the most work I’ve ever put into something.
College is a rare pathway that few of my family members take given the amount of investment of time and money as well as the lack of college exposure. Neither of my parents attended college, and I don’t wish to mirror the lifestyle they carry – for I want to do something worthwhile with my career of healing people. Furthermore, the scholarship will terminate the financial burden that I would have to bear with, and thus will allow me to invest more of my time into my studies and volunteer work. Lastly, the scholarship is also benefiting the community because I intend on receiving my B.S. in nursing and in the process of doing so I plan to engage in events in the community and in volunteer venues.
My journey in health care began back in the spring time of 2015 where it was brought to my attention in the Salina newspaper, an article about high school students enrolled in CNA and CMA classes at Salina Area Technical College were able to take those classes for free. People who have a big influence in my life strongly encouraged me to try them out to see if I wanted a long term career in the medical field. I ended up taking their advice and I am glad to report that I do not regret it. At 16 years of age in December of 2015, I passed my state boards for becoming a certified nurse’s aide and I could say it was a very proud moment of my life.
