I came from the public schools district in Philadelphia, where they didn’t have enough money for books and computers to prepare student for the competitive world. That made me realize there is more to this world than Philadelphia. I know there are more opportunities for minorities. When I reach my dream goal in life I will return to my city to give back. Most people would have expected me to receive a full ride scholarship to a university. However, when, I was battling depression, low self-esteem, and could not imagine that life could get any better if I just had little hope and simply placed my name, GPA, and test scores on a scholarship form. I am in control of my life and blame no one that I did not believe in myself. Now I can no longer afford to have a negative mindset because my education is literally going to cost me. It was not my work ethic that failed me it was my belief system. Our actions come from our thoughts. Because you have taken action and donated towards my education I know that Valencia College and their community partners are genuinely thinking of ways to uplift others. Upon receiving my higher education and beginning a professional career as a Registered Dietitian I to will decide to help others pursue their education because you and others have been generous towards my

Jay-Z once said, “I'm hungry for knowledge. The whole thing is to learn every day, to get brighter and brighter. That's what this world is about. You look at someone like Gandhi, and he glowed. Martin Luther King glowed. Muhammad Ali glows. I think that's from being bright all the time, and trying to be brighter.” My search for knowledge is for me to be brighter so I can become a source of illumination for the generations to come. Unfortunately, Brendon Burchard words that, “Challenge is the pathway to engagement and progress in our lives. But not all challenges are created equal. Some challenges make us feel alive, engaged, connected, and fulfilled. Others simply overwhelm us. Knowing the difference as you set bigger and bolder challenges for yourself is critical to your sanity, success, and satisfaction.” became well understood in my journey of life, as challenges try to overwhelm me. But strong determination remains my key for sustenance. One of the biggest challenges and obstacle to my goal is finance. And to cross this hurdle of finance, I hereby write to apply for scholarship under your foundation.
A college education has been my main goal growing up, and this scholarship would help make this opportunity possible. In the fall, I plan to attend Ohio State University and major in both political science and biology. After earning my undergraduate degree, I would like to continue my education and earn an advanced degree because my career goal is to become either a lawyer or a doctor. However, one of the most difficult challenges I will face as I earn my degrees will be how I can reduce the amount of debt I will incur. Therefore, scholarships like the Men’s Club Civic Involvement College Scholarship provide a means for me to help lower the cost of my education.
