Unit summary
The purpose of this unit is to assess the learner’s knowledge, understanding and skills required to promote the professional duty to maintain the currency of knowledge and skills and the need to continually reflect on and improve practice.

You should establish what opportunities are available to you and where your strengths and weaknesses lie, in order to access appropriate training and development opportunities. By entering into discussion with your manager and asking for their advice, you will gain knowledge and feedback on your current practice. By goal sharing with your manager you can establish where you both see your future roles and responsibilities. When working in partnership with other organisations, sharing training opportunities, not only develops and bonds the partnership but also allows you to access extra, relevant training, which might not be available through your own organisation. 1.4 Explain factors to consider when selecting opportunities and activities for keeping knowledge and practice up to date It is necessary to ensure that any opportunities and activities are relevant for keeping your knowledge and practice up to date. You will need to consider and assess how relevant sources of support are and also the systems of support available, in relation to your personal, professional and organisational goals. There are subtle differences between personal and professional development. Personal development is about developing personal qualities and skills needed to live and work with others e.g. understanding, empathy, patience, self-respect, self-esteem, self-confidence and communication. Unit 2, 1.1, unit 3, 1.1,1.2,1.3- I have also learned and familiarised myself with different methods of assessment that can be used to assess competence and knowledge. They are namely: Observation of performance in the work environment and simulated environments- used in practical situation in work environment where a learner demonstrates their competence (natural performance) whilst learners are being observed. Simulation-this is similar to observation but a simulated activity is used rather than natural performance to assessed learners. Simulation is used when it has not been possible to carry out a task. Examining products of work- assesment is done on the culmination of learner 's training, e:g certificates, health and safety reports, memos, checklist for patiaent care, letters, charts. Questioning the learner, witness testimony: any other people who has been involved with the learner 's progress can write a statemen to show how the learner has successfully covered relevant aspects of the courset, learners ' personal statement: it is a reflective account where learners explains the thinking behind their decision to take certain approach or why they decided to change aspects of a task or activity ,
Learning and development is normally part of the appraisal system, but can also be offered and encouraged throughout the whole organisation. The main purpose of learning and development is to improve your standard of work. This can be in the form of training which can either be formal education or training on the job and can be an in-house training program or an external training course.
2.1 Evaluate prior learning and work-related experience to identify personal strength and weaknesses in self-development.
In my role it is important to continually improve my knowledge and practices. In health and social care ways of working and legislation as well as good practice are constantly changing. Therefore it is important to keep up to date with training and also any changes in legislation. This will enable me to deliver the best service possible to the tenants I support and also enables me to keep staff upto date with any changes in the way that we work. It also forms part of The codes of practice for social care workers to keep skills and knowledge up to date.

As a professional, I have a responsibility to engage in continuous professional development. This means taking action to keep my skills and knowledge up to date and seeking to improve your capabilities across the range of tasks I carry out daily.

Aim: The aim of this unit is to assess the knowledge and understanding a learning and development practitioner requires for the internal quality assurance of assessment. “Practitioner‟ means anyone with a learning and development responsibility as the whole or a part of their role.
1. Briefly explain how the CIPD HR Profession Map defines the HR profession, including the professional areas, the bands and the behaviours.
Within my role, it is important to continually improve knowledge and practice so I am aware of how to give the best diverse and equal care to children, stay fully up to date with all standards and legislations.
For learners the objectives of learning and development are to develop new skills leading to growth in their professional or personal life. There are many ways to identify objectives, they can be identified by the learner and discussed at the review process. Or identified by the organisation and again discussed at the review process. For the organisation the objective of learning and development is to make the workforce more efficient, flexible and able to deliver the organisations results in challenging times. Within Standguide the organisation has created what is known as a competency framework which lays down the skills required for the job role, it is used for promotion, development reward and recognition.
Both these professions expect the same high standards when it comes to education and training. Nursing and Social Work both have requirements for continued professional development and lifelong learning. It is essential that Nurses and Social workers keep a record of their training throughout their careers.
My professional development plan is to grow as a nurse by obtaining knowledge through school and daily life and work experiences. In five to 10 years, I will be able care for patients and their families as a nurse practitioner. Setting short-term and long-term goals will help guide through the journey to transition into the role of professional nursing and provide new opportunities for the future. Beliefs and values influence the decisions or choices people make in their personal and professional lives. Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and materials one uses in teaching. Reflecting and analyzing over and over again the best way to teach to learn and how to make students to extend what has been learned. The many hours spend in the classroom will never be enough to plan lessons, prepare materials, review pupils tasks and exams, as well, all the administrative requirements one has to cover for whatever institution we work. Besides all this a good teacher, a professional one, will have to find the time to keep preparing to improve
Robinson, Dailey, Hughes, and Cotabish (2014) sought to discover the impact of teacher professional development, as well as, a problem-based curriculum on gifted, elementary student’s science achievement. The study compared two groups of students in grades second through fifth by placing them into a treatment group versus a comparison group. Over the course of a two-year period, STEM starters provided 120 hours of professional development to teachers in a problem-based, inquiry learning curriculum through 30 hours of summer workshops and 30 hours of sustained coaching during the school year. Teachers were presented the curriculum explicitly through experiencing the content as a student then received weekly coaching throughout the year (Robinson et al., 2014, pp.191-192). Moreover, the curriculum used with the treatment group focused on central scientific concepts at an advanced, higher-level with an emphasis on science-literacy.
