The purpose of this essay is to uncover what part the First World War played in the downfall of the Tsar and which event contributed the most. Personally, I believe that the prime reason the Tsar abdicated was because of the First World War and the Russo-Japanese war. The blame fell on the Tsar for losing the war. Although, I will be discussing more reasons throughout this essay.
The Russo-Japanese war started in 1904. Japan made an attack at a Russian naval base at Port Arthur. The Russian army took major strain as it was difficult to fight a war from a distance, the army was badly organized and didn’t have many supplies as they took a long time to arrive. In the end the Japanese won the war and the aftermath of the war had a negative effect on Russia. The living conditions of the peasants in Russia were exacerbated. The workers’ wages were decreased even more as there was no money to pay them. There was little industrial growth, very little capital and transport infrastructure was poorly developed.
Some political problems were, Russia was an autocracy or hierarchy and not a democracy. This means that the people of Russia had no say in who ruled the country. There was a Tsar who was part of the royal family and he controlled Russia. Often the Tsar had no idea what the living conditions were like for the lower classes. Many people

The Tsar thought it would be a good idea to join the troops in battle and left his wife to run the country. This was a bad move as the Tsarina was being influenced by Rasputin. The Tsar thought this would improve his reputation with the country but instead the citizens of Russia were unhappy and disappointed. While in Russia, Rasputin became an important figure in politics. The Russian citizens grew to like Russia and after he was found dead, it was discovered that he drowned, and the Tsar was accused. This could have been a factor contributing the tsar’s
The social and economic grievances in Russia throughout the 1900s were, to a moderate degree, the result of Tsar Nicolas II's failure to address the difficulties confronting society and the economy; nonetheless, the concerns had long-term causes that began before his reign. This can be seen through the unfair worker conditions, overcrowding housing which were created before Tsar Nicholas’s time which wasn’t a result of him, and the continued discrimination against the Jewish race and antisemitic views as well the economic issues of the failure of World War 1 which Tsar Nicholas II caused. Tsar Nicholas presided over the Russian Empire, which was overrun by various social issues, this along with his autocratic rule which to some extent caused
There were also many problems in Russia after they had an Industrial Revolution. Russia had many government problems. The Russian government was a type of government that did not listen to the people. The government did as it pleased without consent from the people. The people had no say in the governing process as in the United States. Due to this there were poor working and living conditions, overpopulation, poor sanitation, not many jobs and many people were starving. The majority of the people in Russia (about ninety percent) were poor and only about ten percent were rich and they controlled the nation. This meant the majority of the nation was not being listened to.
As the Russian Nation advanced and progressed over time, a change in opinion about the role of the Tsar was inevitable. A changed perception about the Tsar's role by the people in contrast to Nicholas' personal view of his role remaining the same ultimately made for a factor that can be attributed to the decline. Nicholas' personal qualities and attributes can account for the decline of the Romanov Dynasty. Whilst we cannot blame him for this, one of Nicholas' great faults was that he simply did not possess the qualities required to govern Russia.
Their worry over Alexei and search for a treatment that worked introduced them to Gregory Rasputin. Rasputin would cause the Russia people to doubt the Tsar and one of the reasons why the royal family met their end.
The Tsarist Authority is a factor which was not as effective in strengthening the Tsarist State. Tsar Nicholas
Russia was ruled by the imperial Romanov family, The first official Russian emperor of Russia was Peter the Great in 1721. During the reign of Peter the Great he established a rule of absolute Monarchy until 1917. In 1917 the Russians citizens weren't content of Nicholas the 2nd rule. Under the reign of Nicholas the 2nd Russia the citizens had to work long hours and worked six days a week, but were payed a small amount of money which barely payed for food, clothes, water, houses and other necessities. In 1917 Russia was participating in World War 1 but was losing large amount of infantry. These infantry were peasants which weren't trained and wasn't given the correct equipment such as weapons, clothing or training. Due to the lack of weapons,

Overall, the hardships of World War I on Russia and its people due to poor economic and logistical planning for the war, resulted in increased resentment towards the Tsarist regime which would eventually evolve into massive instability and Nicholas’
Tsar Nicholas II is thought to be personally responsible for the collapse of the Russian Monarchy. His nature wasn’t well suited for the role he held therefore he was an incompetent leader. Russia was undergoing many changes and was in early stages of industrialization. This was followed by an embarrassing string of defeats of which the Tsar was badly prepared. His unsuccessful involvement in the First World War added to the disappointment in the government’s incompetence and corruption. There were many opportunities for Russia to modernize but this would require political change, which the Tsar was unwilling to do. Nicholas had many opportunities throughout his reign to reform, but destroyed his last chance of survival.
Tsar Nicholas II, continued to insist his orders were to be absolutely obeyed “not merely from fear but according to the dictates of one’s conscience... [which are] ordained by God himself” [12]. Beginning around 1904 on into 1905 the attack on governments authority was “so massive, potent, and successful that by all appearances the old regime was disintegrating” [13]. For several months, the government look as if incapable of doing little more than biding its time until the outbursts of defiance and violence ran its
This demonstrates that since the stress of waging war was tremendous, it should be no surprise that the first war could be a primary cause of the Russian Revolution. Moreover, the major powers of Europe hurt Russia in World War I; yet, by 1917, all the combatants horrifically suffered from the strains of war economically, proving this to be a long-term cause. This was, to a great extent, considerable because the military defeats and social strains of World War I had created a crisis in Imperial Russia. Before, Russia had some military accomplishments and they were on their way to being successful. Nevertheless, their triumphs were not long-standing; hence, Russia was not able to be victorious due to the fact that Russia decreased in economy because of the limitations in Russia. Similarly, restraints included the shortage of food and the huge problems with getting the obligatory materials for the army during World War I, which shows that this was momentous. Along with Russia being defeated and having a scarcity of supplies, Russia also showed economic oppression due to the pressure in jobs workers faced.
Russia struggled to provide food for its populations. Citizens took control into their own hands, Ludovic Naudeau wrote in October 1917, “One morning recently I was awakened by the cries of my neighbor in the next room. His boots had been stolen. The same day the manager of a newspaper office told me that he had been robbed six of pairs of pantaloons, … “Four hundred thefts every night!” he cried; that is the average for the last two weeks,”(One Aspect of Bolshevist Liberty). Russia could not even uphold itself because the economy was not successful compared to other countries. This led people to desire a change in the government; therefore this led to the Russian Revolution. People went to different maters to get what they wanted such as stealing since they were not getting the aid that they needed and they needed financial support. This caused them to protest against their government because many people from the lower class could not take care of their families. This cause led to a greater impact compared to Tsarist weak authority.
In conclusion to the fall of the Romanov dynasty, it is shown that Nicholas had the biggest impact of Russia becoming a communist country as he did not have a greater understanding on the way to run his country, he also didn’t take full responsibility for his people and the soldiers in WW1,
