Learning in a traditional classroom requires you to get up and get ready by a certain time. You must find a sitter, if needed, as well as find a job that will work around you school schedule. If you have a doctor appointment or need to do something important, you must miss class for that. You have to find the extra time to do your makeup work and anything that you missed. Learning in an online setting, lets you work on the everyday task. If you have a job that requires you to work long hours; you can come home after a day of work and go online to start your class. You have the options to work ahead a little on the online course, compared to a traditional class where you can only work on assignments handed out at the time. I have always been one that learns better by listening/watching something, compared to reading the material itself. I have never been afraid to ask for help or guidance anytime I had a problem/question. I have always been afraid of the criticism/feedback that I receive. Overtime, I have learned that is just helping better myself in whatever it is I am doing. I have always been a firm believer in "when the going gets tough, the tough get going." I have never really understood this statement, but I do know that it is going to get worse before it gets better. At times, things arise that you must face "head on," in order to do so, you should always remain calm and take it one day at a time. During my time in school, I am going to have to figure a way to manage my time better; as well as finding somewhere quiet to study. I hope that during the next year or so that I am able to utilize my time management skills better. In a home with five kids, a husband, and two dogs finding a place and time to do homework is hard. In the upcoming weeks, I am hoping that I am more able to find a place and time that I can do my work and not be bothered. I plan on trying to better my skills each and every …show more content…
I, myself, have found that I do try to multi-task with several different things in a days time. I find that if you focus on one thing at a time, it helps you understand it better. I plan on working towards just doing one thing at a time; by first learning not to rush things so I have time to do it. With kids, and work at times, it is hard to just sit down and focus on one certain thing at a time. When it comes to focusing on school work, I find that it is best to find somewhere quiet and calm to do your work. Although I have a hard time doing this at times, I know the importance of focusing on one thing. When you try to do more than one thing, you tend to let some things slip. As an adult with kids, you try to do as much as possible in a short amount of time. At times, you will forget about something or overlook something, all because you were multi-tasking. In order to succeed, I feel as though you should only focus on one thing/item at a time. In order to do so, you must make time in your day/agenda. If I can learn anything aside from Criminal Justice, it is to be able to focus on one thing at a time, and not multi-task. As many adults when you multi-task, you think that you are getting more accomplished, but in the long run, you end up having to go back over some of the things you already
Everyone has their own learning styles. Going to school online might not be cut out for a person that needs to be face to face with an instructor. Or a person that has to have on hands training might not want to attend an online campus. It’s a tough decision when you have to make this decision on how you want to continue with your education. An education is an education, so it’s better to have one than not to have one at all. So it all really boils down to you making that decision based on how you interpret your learning skills. For me, online is what fit in my current life style. It’s convenient, comfortable, and less expensive. The
Online classes are best for people who feel they can produce better work in an isolated environment with no instructor or classmates directly in front of them. This also benefits more for people with full time jobs or other commitments that would prevent them from going to the classroom. Now the downside to this is that you have more temptation to be distracted from doing your work. Since you do practically all your assignments online, it's real easy to go right onto social media sites such as Facebook and see what everyone else is doing. If you plan on doing an online based program, you have to have a lot of self-control and will power to keep from going onto other sites not related to your
There are no facts supporting the statement that “you cannot learn as much online as in a classroom”. Everyone has their own needs for learning some people do better online in the privacy of their home where there are not any distractions, and some people need have face to face interaction in order to learn. Some people who are in online classes may learn more than those who are in a classroom. No matter what you choose the learning part is up to you and how committed you are to furthering your education.
Learning to me is allowing your brain to receive information and then applying in to your life experiences. I feel like face to face learning is better, however, online is more convenient. I prefer face to face because it offers a more personal relationship with your classmates and your professor. Although it is not practical for my life, I do wish I could attend classes in a regular environment. Online provides me that much needed space and opportunity to move at my own pace. Now that I have taken this class, I know that while I am receiving information I will be more aware of the information being delivered because I will now be more intentional with receiving the information.
The Internet has also changed the way students learn. Online classes are more readily available compared to several years ago. By means of online classes more adult students pursuing higher education are able to make that dream become a reality. Students attending online classes offer different viewpoints with fellow students and are able to communicate without feeling that a correct answer needs to be given.
Regardless of whether it is at our job, in our home, or obtaining an education, we have learned multi-tasking is a way of life. As our culture began to change, challenging women to begin working public jobs, as well as overseeing a home and children, there really was no other option than to learn the ropes of multi-tasking. Throughout the years we have witnessed more and more families becoming single parented, alluding to a multi-task environment. It has become a way of life, in order for people to survive. Does this make it a positive skill, probably not? When we find ourselves trying to do more than one thing at a time, we begin making mistakes and losing focus of what we are doing. I find myself everyday finding reasons to multi-task, whether it be at work or home. It has just become a way of life for me. As I began attending Bethel, I have come to realize I must let certain things go however, that can be put on hold in order for me to focus on my studies. I have learned it is not possible to sit and watch television as I attempt to research for a paper or write an essay. It is vital for me to have complete silence, with little to no distractions while I am completing my homework. Does this always happen? I would be lying if I said yes. As adult students we do begin to learn how important it is to prioritize in order to focus on our studies, but unfortunately, life does happen, and we find ourselves once again multi-tasking. (Chambers,
The article “How to Do One Thing at a Time” acknowledges an article in the science journal Neurolmage. The science journal revealed that “when we attempt demanding tasks simultaneously, we end up doing neither as well as we should because our brains have cognitive limits.” Difficult tasks require your full attention. It’s impossible to multitask on those tasks because we are distracted by another task. Often times, people forget about what they’re working on. As stated earlier, people who focused on each task individually scored significantly higher on memory tests. When I’m working on an assignment, I
There are others, like myself, who feel that online learning is better. The supporters of this back their claim by stating that online classes can be more beneficial for teachers and students. For example, fewer distractions in a classroom like other students disrupting class. Students can come into class late after the teacher has already started class and cause a disruption or talk during the class. With online classes the student can control their environment. Also, a teacher can provide in writing just the basic information a student needs for an assignment. This way there is less of a chance for the student to get confused on the assignment when the topic
The overall functioning of a classroom is impacted by trust, safety, and consistency. When a student does not feel safe he or she will reflect this through his or her behavior. Trust is important for students to take risks and allow learning to occur in the classroom. Trust, safety, and consistency are beneficial in the learning environment. A classroom where students feel safe, realize the teacher is consistent, and trust is developed, will allow students to grow and change socially, emotionally, and academically. This will offer a positive learning environment.
In order for students to be able to take college courses online, they need some type of way to organize themselves and push themselves finish their work since their teachers really can’t (Bird). In a physical classroom, teachers are able to move around and be able to answers questions right then and there, but with online schooling students would have to wait a while to get a response from their teachers if they have questions (“Key”). The dropout rate for online schooling in very high, mostly because students don’t know how to prioritize their school schedule and don’t know how to be self motivated (Bejarano). Learning independently is very challenging, and students may become discouraged when they have to face challenges with learning online by themselves (Bejarano). Online learning would not be a good option for students that can’t self motivate and can’t focus
The positive of online classes is being able to access the class in any free time. Most online classes though, require work to be turned in on certain days and times. Which makes it harder for students to remember when assignments need to be done. The pleasure of the instructor reading/lecturing the textbook material out loud won’t be there. It
People can take online courses these days. It is a chance for most people to get online courses on their own place. Students have the capacity to look over many diverse programs that would help them with their needs. Nowadays, most of the programs are available online from each department like business, management, and information technology. Additionally, students can browse different sorts of degree. The online courses have lower costs since they do not buy textbooks; they can downloads all assignments and all different materials that are required for their classes. Another benefit of these online classes is saving time since students do not have to attend classes, so they might have more time to do their assignments and study. Online classes evacuate the anxiety by permitting learners to study when it is helpful for most learners would like to study at different time. Likewise, students at schools have to take their exams and quizzes on the day their instructor planned for , but
In life there are always positive and negative things in life, there are always two sides to look at. In this case I'm talking about whether I think that traditional classroom setting is better for the students or if online is better. I know I'm about to contradict myself but honestly there is no right or wrong way with going with the classroom setting. I say that because some kids learn faster or are more educated in some things which is completely normal, no one is the same. Some kid’s need that more personal or one on one learning because there are some kids that need. Sometimes it just works out for the family best, for example my parents travel a lot and for me to go to a traditional classroom I depended on my parents to drive me to school every day because I don't live close for the bus to pick me up and take me to school. There were many other reasons like the people I associated myself with because they were the people I met my freshman year. I realized that the people I was hanging out with were not people that I had things in common with. My freshman year I was as my 7th grade teacher said "I was a follower not a leader". Which is crazy to think because if anyone personally knows me they know I do not like when people boss me around, if I were to work I would rather be the boss and not the employee. People think a lot of bad things about me because my dad is a business owner and that is all I've ever seen him do. Which has create this monster inside of me that
Time for a face to face class is very difficult if a person works 40 hours a week but an online course can put an ease on the time restriction because the person does the work at their own pace and time. It is also easier to sign up for an online class than a class at a college. Message boards are in use if the students need to leave a question or a comment about the subject their on. They also save time by not traveling to the college and trying to find a parking space.
Andrew Simoncelli once said, “Students who take online classes must be motivated, independent learners.” This is relevant because independence and motivation is what it takes to succeed in an online course. Online learning will not only expand what students learn, but will also bring a number of positive changes in the way students are taught. Courses online have changed everyone’s look at learning all over the world. It allows more opportunities for observers to learn online rather than learning in class. Another affirmative of taking an online course is flexibility and convenience. Students who would like to experience some of these ideas should look into an online class!
