According to Galvan et al., (2008) for African Americans having a support from friends and family is a way to decrease their perception of HIV related stigma, with this support they don’t feel isolated, judged, or internalizing these stigmas. Organizations that target heterosexual HIV men as a group, would also help move away from the idea that HIV is a “gay” or “drug abuser”
Since we teach students from diverse backgrounds, I hope to gain insight on the understanding of the general population regarding the various topics in medicine, which will enable me to not only to educate these students regarding any false information or gaps in information they may have, but also learn of the common misconceptions in our community, so that I may be able to effectively educate my patients and their families in the future. All in all, I look forward to investing my time and talents in the mini-med program that aims to provide medical education to the next generation of citizens in our

High blood pressure increases your risk for heart disease and stroke, two leading causes of death for both Florida and the United States (Centers for disease control, 2017). High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is known as the “silent killer” because it often has no warning signs or symptoms, and many people do not know they have it. Hypertension damages blood vessels in the organs, reducing their ability to work properly (National institute of diabetes and digestive and kidney diseases, 2016). About 1 of 3 U.S. adults—or about 75 million people—have high blood pressure. Only 54% of these people have their high blood pressure under control (Centers for disease control, 2017). Hypertension education, which focuses on controlling the disease with medication, diet, and losing weight, is important in preventing or delaying the progression of serious complications. Most people diagnosed with hypertensive disease will need to see a medical professional who will recommend lifestyle changes to help you control and prevent high blood pressure (Ignatavicius & Workman, 2006, p. 1742).

As well as having serious health consequences for smokers themselves, the pollution of other people's atmospheres with cigarette smoke also makes this an environmental issue. Attitudes have changed rapidly over the past twenty years. In the developed world, public opinion has shifted against smoking.
