American Public Health Association (APHA)

Public health deals with the public, community, and society as a whole. It promotes and protects the health of people and the communities where they live, learn, work and play. I believe that the many leadership, teamwork, communication and community skills I have gained through NHS and FBLA, will allow me to excel in the Public Health Field. Which will, in turn, allow me to be the best I can be, enabling me to be a great positive force in my community.

The Better Health Association is a nonprofit company whose objective is simply to increase the health of people through health education, guidance, and diagnosis screening programs. They make an attempt to assist audiences of any age and socioeconomic ranges to gain knowledge of living an even healthy life-style and creating the know-how required to develop healthy and balanced choices. "My role within the company is to secure agreements from at least three major area advertising and marketing agencies to underwrite the creation and production of all Better Health special event programs for the next three to four years. I also, create an active and positive presence for the agency in state-of-the-art social media venues that results in recruitment and assistance to new clients. Monitor and track results quarterly. In addition to, developing systematic marketing plans that address every operational area of Better Health including client services, all fund raising events and general association promotion in all media venues" (https://bluequill.franklin.edu, n.d.).

The Department of Public Health, since its inception has provided services that are geared toward the protection of lives, mostly that of public awareness – through education, partnership and community engagement, professional development, research, and prevention of diseases. Despite the fact that APHA is the voice of public health countrywide, the Association cannot function well without the assistance of its affiliates. For the past one century, the Association’s 54 regional and state public health affiliates have been championing similar goals as APHA to protect, promote, and advocate for the health of the public. The Association’s affiliates are established autonomously with their own infrastructure, processes, policies, and procedures. As Executive Director, I will provide staff leadership for Better Health Association. Our goal for the company is to improve the well-being of individuals. Audiences of all ages will be able to take part in learning about living a healthy lifestyle and developing the skills needed to make healthy choices to prevent diseases and ameliorate conditions for those already afflicted with illnesses. Over the course of the following year, it is my responsibility to develop and lead the staff, management structure, dedicated to achieving the mission for Better Health Care Organization. I plan to make significant changes to our organization, to help guide individuals in

Public health has the interests of the public at its core. According to the Department of Health (DoH) (2012) Public health is concerned with prevention and therefore encourages people to ‘stay healthy’ and ‘avoid getting ill’.

While both medical care and public health work to improve the lives of many people, there are several distinctions between the two fields. Healthcare providers such as nurses and doctors are responsible for diagnosing and treating illnesses for individual patients. The care ranges from minor injuries to severe and chronic diseases. Meanwhile, public health strives to improve the well-being of a population. Public health advocates for the overall “promotion and prevention” of diseases before it even becomes an issue for healthcare providers. Public health encourages people to adopt healthy lifestyle choices and strives to control the outbreak of diseases. Although public health is often overlooked in the grand scale of medical care, it is undoubtedly the main aspect in ensuring that the overall health of a community is prospering.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the U.S. government’s principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves. HHS is responsible for almost a quarter of all federal outlays and administers more grant dollars than all other federal agencies combined. The mission of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is to enhance the health and well-being of Americans by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services. In addition, HHS is also responsible to provide better services to people by adapting to new technologies to keep pace with the advancement in technology. As we compare the health and human services from last ten years to present, it is very clear to analyze how health and human systems have improved over the years. The Department manages programs that cover a vast spectrum of activities that impact health, public health, and human services outcomes throughout the life span.

The U.S. Office of Education recognized AMA/AAMA as an official accrediting agency for medical assisting programs in public and private institutions.

With the growing ability of organizations to capture and analyze large batches of data, there are ever-increasing possibilities for the development of healthcare studies utilizing Big Data’s promise of advancement in data processing. These tools can benefit the field of healthcare by treating data as an asset to be managed, as well as providing new insights into genomic development of large populations that were previously not fathomable. The health care industry is one sector of the economy where data analysis presents great opportunities for improvement in the quality of services provided, but with these possibilities come great challenges in collecting, utilizing, and education the next generation of data stewards, and the NIH is sure to look to global models for data quality in carrying out their new directive.

Another component of the PPACA, it promotes public health and prevention of chronic disease. American families will have control of their own health decisions with nutrition and prevention information based. It provides for funds in prevention, public health, disease research, and screening. Small businesses will develop a workplace wellness programs to promote better health for the employees. Local and state governments progress policies to prevent the onset of chronic diseases, obesity, and tobacco use.

The leaders in the National Institute of Health play an important role is shaping the agencies different research plans and activities. The NIH is made up of twenty different centers and institutes each focusing on a different body system or disease of the body requiring their own research agenda.

The 10 essential public health services are distributed under the three core functions of assurance, assessment, and policy development. Every community and public health organization should undertake activities that represent the 10 essential public health services. The American Heart Association is a nonprofit agency that embodies some of the essential public health services. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, the AHA has many local offices that serve various communities across the country. It is important for the AHA to be involved in building healthier communities because heart disease and stroke are the number 1 and number 5, respectively, leading causes of death in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2015).
