Ms. Floyd and fellow classmates, my essay will illustrate how the art of rhetoric can spark a movement and bring change to our nation. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was famous for his inspirational speeches that showcased the epitome of rhetoric and solidified his place in history of being the most influential civil rights leader. One of those speeches, MLK’s “Give Us the Ballot”, energized the civil rights movement on May 17th, 1957. Even though Trump’s win is a bit of a scare to some in America and the Republican party, what really stood out in this party’s primary was the runner ups following Trump’s clear win. Many had thought Republican candidate Cruz would be second runner up, but shockingly other candidate John Kasich followed Trump with 16% in the vote. Throughout the rest of the primaries, candidates Bush and Cruz had been a battle for third place with both having 11%, while Rubio had trailed in at 9%. Although Cruz and Rubio’s failure had been a bit predicted, no one would have predicted the first runner up to be not too talked about candidate Kasich. It seemingly similar to the Democratic candidate Sanders who at first everyone thought would not succeed in these presidential campaigns, but winds up winning the hearts of many Americans. Imagine a nation brimming with smiling workers and a swelling economy. Doesn’t that seem like somewhere you would want to live? The Republican Party wasn’t made up of just one group of people, in a way it was a melting pot. It was made up of antislavery Democrats, northern Whigs, Free Soilers, and Know-Nothings; all were opposed to the further expansion of slavery. The platform of the Republicans was the idea of free labor which offered each person a chance to move up to the status of a land owning farmer. This was the exact opposite of slavery in which there was no chance to ever be anything but a slave. Republicans are not to be confused with abolitionists whose goal was to emancipate slaves; the Republican goal was to prevent the spread of slavery. The Republican Party believes in conservatism and traditional practices. They are strongly opposed to same-sex marriage and feel that heterosexual marriage is the only right way. Republicans feel that the only ways to economic profit are free market and individual achievement. In addition they oppose high tax rates for the wealthy and believe raising the minimum wage is going to directly hurt the economy. Republicans wish to see increased funding and modernization to the military. In their eyes, a strong defense system is the only way to peace. The Republican Party would like a large reform in social security and want workers to control their own retirement investments.

Imagine getting raped by a family member and then are faced with the decision when an unwanted pregnancy occurs due to this unfortunate traumatic event. What should be done? The Republican party should win the 2016 elections because of the parties views on same sex marriage, abortion, and drugs.

Compared to The Democrats, who have raised a total of $363.9 million, The Republican Party falls short $169.4 million dollars in fundraising. This does not mean that the Democrats win the online campaigning battle overall. These numbers show that each campaign value donor contributions in different ways. For example, Bernie Sanders favors donations from grassroots organizations, which made up most of his campaign donations. This goes to show that campaigns utilize plays or tactics towards their target audience to raise funds. Also, there are various factors that play into determining which party wins the online campaigning battle. Generally speaking, anyone who lives in the United States of America knows that there are two main political parties—the Republicans and the Democrats. Having two main parties has its advantages and, of course, its disadvantages. For example, in By the People James E. Monroe and Rogan Kersh (301) point out having this type of system creates “predictability and stability.” However, they also declare (301) it can “lead to a gridlock.” This is not a new concept either as there has been a divide since the beginning of both parties. The two parties more often than not disagree on various issues, while rarely agreeing on what is best for the country.

Ted Cruz is a United States Senator, John Kasich is the Governor of Ohio, and Donald Trump that is a real estate mogul. Donald Trump remains having a substantial lead in the party’s nomination. By the current trends of polls, money, and endorsements of front-runner Donald Trump, he will win the Republican nomination for the White House on the first ballot and be able to avoid a contested convention in Cleveland in July.

One of the biggest misconceptions in American politics is that both political parties operate and appear the same way compared to their old platforms in the 1800s. The modern Republican Party can be generalized as more likely to be conservative and have higher living standards as opposed to the modern Democratic Party. These stereotypes have caused many people to believe that the Republican Party had always functioned this way. The old Democratic Party, on the other hand, strongly opposed Republican ideals in the nineteenth century. The Democrats opposed the influence of federal government, civil rights, and Western settlement. As I spoke about in an earlier speech about thrifting, I included many locations and ways to thrift, also the benefits to the shopper and the donator.
