My assigned learner is Dan. Dan is a lot like me; I am a wife and mom of two boys, with a full time job, and going to school. I know how it feels to put of schoolwork till the last minuet. Then once I start I think I am doing it wrong or I do not understand what is being asked of me. Dan struggled gathering ideas because he was feeling rushed. He avoids precision and confluence so this assignment was tuff for him because it was what his thoughts were and he had to use creativity to organize his paper. I think that Dan should have used forge to tape into his Confluence learning pattern, this would have given him the confidence to do the assignment. He then could have used intensify to wake up his precision that would have allowed him to organizes
Cassie is the person I chose to relate to and explain what I think she could have done to adjust her learning pattern. Cassie should have intensified more in Confluent, by tuning more in her Confluent level, she would be more relaxed about taking risk on writing her paper. relaying strictly on Precision as a use first, she is driving herself crazy by worrying about being wrong and not focusing on the assignment as a whole. I feel that Cassie is over processing the task that is asked of her to complete the assignment that she is asked to do.
I always read and follow all directions prior to starting any of my work. I tether my work because I have enough time to check the work at the end. My precision pattern is also in the use first level. I take pride in never waiting until the last minute to do my assignments. I tether my work in recognizing that it will not be perfect. I have realized that I think of something similar related to understand some assignments. I avoid using my technical reasoning by forging this pattern, I have learned to make the topic find a purpose in writing my discussions. I am one of those as needed confluence users. During the class readings, I would intensify my readings to stay on task. I honestly just went with the flow of what was being asked to
As a Dynamic Learner, you have done an excellent job at planning out your assignments and posting required discussions, post, and assignments on time. Dan could learn a lot from how you apply your learning patterns to your course work. He had taken notes, but had missed placed them. Organization is a part of sequencing. There is time to be with family and have a social life, but there has to be a balance for work, play, and coursework. Sequence learning pattern also implies working an assignment from the beginning to the end.
Adam, an 11-year-old student. He seems like a very bright and eager learner. Yet, his teachers complained that he comes easily frustrated with himself when it comes to written assignments. When they evaluate his homework, he is frequently making spelling mistakes, is unable to use the proper punctuation and grammar, and his sentences do not always make sense. When his teachers or parents confront Adam on information about the given task, he can explain the content and reflect his knowledge. Yet, in his written work, his ideas do not flow well together and are out of sequence.
In my opinion Dan needs to intensify his Precision and allow himself more time to prepare for assignments. He also needs to tether his Sequence pattern to organize a plan to approach his work for the week. He can also ask the professor to explain his assignments more if he does not understand it. He needs to also intensify his confluence so he can feel more comfortable with the risk it takes to complete the assignment. It may also help if he works on his mindset too. He could try and work with a more of a growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset.
Last fall semester, Francis was in my MATH 118 course. During that time, I saw that he had potential to do great things. When I met with him this year, I could see his growth, and that he is heading in the right direction. So I am pleased to recommend Francis as a math tutor for the Tutoring Center, for I know that he has the knowledge and skills for this position.
Between 03:10 and 04:05 I challenged my focus learner to use her inferencing skills to predict what would happen in the story. As I read the story I asked my focus learner, making sure to use key vocabulary, what would happen next in the read-aloud. At 03:11 I asked my focus learner “then what do you think is going to happen next” referring to the story. I paused, allowing my learner to think. when I realized that my learner needed more support I asked again repressing the question for clarity “After I get the apple, Then what happens?”. My learner modeled my behavior by shrugging her shoulders. At this time my focus learner classmate was able to correctly identify the next step which was taking a bite of the apple. My focus learner was able
She would connect better with the outside world if she knew to tether these learning patterns. The most important advice I could give Nia would be to start accepting feedback along with respecting others’ opinions. Just as I said earlier, take advantage of the support the school provides! Seeing her lack of family support together with being an online student she should use the opportunity of the school’s guidance. It was really hard for me pick an assignment, in which I didn’t use intentional learning patterns. I scored a S27, P28, TR18 and C22 on my test. Then I realized in week three I struggled the most with focusing. In discussion two of chapter three, I didn’t use my learning patterns correctly. I needed to tether my sequence and precision. I literally used a whole notebook while taking notes for chapter two! I realized I gathered to much information in result of my high precision; when I did the discussion two in week three. I skimmed through everything I read making the noted I took mediocre. Something I will do in the future is avoiding gathering to much information, therefore i won’t take to many notes. Also, I’ll make sure I summarize an outline only the key
Raheem: He is a Use First Confluence and Technical reasoning. My recommendation is to work on his Sequence more. It will assist him in-group projects needing step-by-step instructions. It will also help him in creative writing to work neatly and from beginning to end. It seems he is having trouble meeting the instructors and teammates’ expectations, this pattern will help create a whole new atmosphere and work ethic.
Tutoring these courses including six other biology and chemistry courses, highlights my proficiency in this competency.I acquired this competency by completing over 10 laboratory sections for different sciences course, including physics, biology, and chemistry. As a paramedic instructor, I also have experience conducting laboratory skill stations for students. These laboratory stations consist of a variety of procedure and assessment
Cassie had a hard time mulling over the instructions of the assignment. She would have benefited from intentionally decoding the inspection. By figuring out exactly what the instructions are asking for and figuring out which learning patterns and is asking her to you. She should have tethered her Precision learning which she uses at a used first level. She knew the information but was not intentionally learning the information. Also by intensifying her sequence learning she should have taken notes on everything about critical learning that she knew and how to affectively apply it. Cassie needs to for her technical reasoning learning pattern given her recent feedback of using too many words and her last assignment. By forging her technical reasoning learning pattern she would be
During the first semester of my third year of undergraduate studies, my father got laid off from his employment. It was difficult to financially support a family of four members. Additionally, my sister was going through medical school which took much of the finances out of the family. I knew that I could no longer pay for my undergraduate tuition for the upcoming semester. This was a terrible time in my life. I tried getting financial aid through the banks but loan processing would take a long time. I was demoralizing to see my father depressed. I confided in my research mentor about my situation and he advised me to look for jobs on campus. My research mentor was directed me towards the job of a lab technician in the undergraduate labs. I
Throughout this course, I have reflected on my learning. I have noticed my learning, for the most part, has not changed drastically, but instead it has become more refined. This is the first time I have actually taken the time to think about my learning process. Even though I have not spent a lot of time reflecting on my learning, I feel I now know more about how I learn and what I did find out can help me during the rest of the time I pursuit higher education.
I believe a successful learning experience is engaging and valued by the students. I believe students’ will value what they are learning if they believe what they’re learning is relevant. Relevance is important to teaching and learning because it is directly related to student engagement and motivation (Frymier & Schulman, 1995; Martin & Dowson, 2009). Marsh (2008), states a positive classroom environment provides a sense of security, community, belonging and identity (Marsh, 2008). Based on my experience as a practicing teacher, I have found establishing clear expectations within the classroom assist in maintaining control and discipline, to create a safe learning environment (Fatt Hee, 1996). I believe within all classrooms, students’ diversity should be valued. This creates a discrimination free environment and ensures students feel safe and included (Philips, 2010). According to Stanford & Parkay (2007) students are more engaged in class when learning experiences are satisfying, challenging and friendly.
Teaching can be a challenge, you never know what to expect and each classroom will be unique. However, you will always have to be prepare for teaching in a situation you may not be comfertable with. Educating students and practicing proper knowledge on subjects such as race, class, gender, sexual orientation and disability are vital in creating a safe and respectful classroom for all. School is often looked upon as a place of security for students and it is our job as teachers to help maintain that status.
