Yarden Ben-David SPC1608 Professor Barbara Gutierrez 6/14/17 Persuasive Speech Outline: Attractiveness Leads To The Good Life Introduction: • Attention Grabber: Personal anecdote – I don’t remember the day I got picked first for kickball. This is largely due to the fact that I was never picked first for kickball. It was always the members of the exclusive league of ‘hot sixth graders’, which were all mutually agreed on by mostly people of the grade. I have no idea what made these people more or less valuable than myself, or my other classmates, they weren’t even that good at kickball, seriously. These days were forever haunted by my mother’s words, after a long, exhausting day of the terrors and wonders of middle school, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” • Motivation For Listening: A personal anecdote will tie in my audience because it is something different, and a story the audience hasn’t ever been told before. It doesn’t come from boring fact; it comes from life experience. • Thesis Statement: Why do more physically attractive people live the ‘good life’? Now, what do I mean by the ‘good life’? I am referring to an endless void of limitless opportunities, better job offers, more friends, and of course - more lovers. We, as humans, are psychologically programmed to be more accepting and respectful of more physically attractive human beings. First Main Point: Culture Plays Its Part • Define attractiveness: According to the dictionary, to be attractive is to be “pleasing or appealing to the senses.” • But how does one know what is appealing to his or her senses? (Tie in culture, and how different cultures desire different things attractive) • Study conducted by Kushnick about the different foot sizes. Describe the scenario. The Karo Barak, an Indonesian ethnic group, deemed women with larger feet to be more attractive. Other countries, such as the United States, Brazil, and India, found women with smaller feet to be more attractive. Transition: Culture is just one of many examples of factors that set what is deemed attractive between people apart, but how to these factors of what is attractive contribute to success in every day life? An example could be looking for a job. Second Main Point:
