My experience as an academic writer have been a poor experience while educational. The reasons being I do not particularly take an interest towards writing. Understanding it is valuable skill, causes me to work my way through it. The past years I have done a lot of writing, not just in my English courses, but in all my classes as a high school student, all the way up to College. Senior year of high school I was required to write a twenty-page thesis in order to graduate. This was the most painful experience I have had as a writer. Although I did not like putting pen to paper, it strengthened my research skills and writing ability. After high school I entered college where I took English 1301. This course helped strengthen the core skills of
All throughout my years of schooling, I’ve had just about, one paper that was about one page long, due every year. My papers never had to be more than one page in length. Therefore, I did not have to do much writing or do many essays. Surely not enough to remember any of the assignments. Writing has never been something I enjoyed doing, so I never bothered to many any memories of my writing experiences. I did not think it was necessary to remember any of them since I only had to do them to get a grade. The only writing experience I remember was the first assignment I had in this English 100 class about a writing experience. All week long, I sat there thinking about what to write about, but nothing came to mind as a topic. Then, one thing came to mind, but it was so very vague, I could not write the length that was needed for the assignment. I could only think of a few sentences to write for it. After sitting for a few moments longer, I thought, how about I write about how difficult it was for me to write this essay before it was due.
Writing has always been my most difficult part of English. Reading, on the other hand, is something I could do all day; however, with writing, I grimace just thinking about it. It was not that I did not have anything to say, because I actually have quite a bit to say. I just could never figure out how to phrase what I had to say in just right way on the page. My mom taught me to read and write at a young age. After that, I would devour any book that I could get my hands on. However, I have had trouble with writing since it became more than just my alphabet and numbers.
Your Writing Experience In Shawnee Community College I have chosen one faculty to interview and ask how important is writing in their job area. I have chosen Mrs. Mindy Reach; I choose Mrs. Reach because I felt more comfortable talking to her. Mrs. Mindy is an academic and retention specialist, Academic advisors help students recognize and achieve their educational goals, primarily at the postsecondary level. They help students examine school programs, recognize their academic strengths and select a major.
With a pencil in my right hand and the wheels of my thought train circling through my head I feel as though I am limitless. When given a “free range of motion” within my writing, I feel as though I can take my audience anywhere. As a writer I enjoy free writing which allows me to use not only my imagination, but my feeling and emotions too. Although I enjoy writing not every writing experience of mine has been positive. I have been critiqued, criticized and chastised for my works, but I have only grown from this harsh commentary.
I am Elizabeth Nguyen. I am actually in my senior year of high school. I can say I have had a lot of experience with academic writing and writing in general thanks to all the literary works I have read in high school. Those literary works exposed me to more writing styles and tips, so it is not very difficult for me at all. Writing, to me, is the best form of communication since speaking makes me really anxious.
Of all the writing experience I gained through an AP heavy course load in high school, I look towards the experience I gained in one class more than anything else when it comes to the development of my reading and writing skills as a student and learner. This class was known locally in my high school as Honors Issues in Religions, taught by Mr. Burnett. The reason this class has held such an impact on me is because we were able to develop both reading and writing in a variety of ways, whether it was doing the nightly textbook reading, writing 4 essays in 90 minutes in what is known as a test in the class, the 15 page minimum research paper due at the end of the year, or even the book review done on a book of the student’s choice. All of these different aspects were able to help myself improve my skills as both a reader and writer.
I have never been passionate about writing, but I have always been a pretty good writer. I was always told that I wrote at a higher level through elementary school and throughout high school, I took two years of Honors English and two years of AP English. I did very well in those classes and usually received A’s on my papers. However, I have never loved writing and would often dread writing assignments.
I was somewhat confident when I took English during school. I understood the general concept and could easily put my thoughts into words. Throughout my high school career, I took on the task of writing for my school’s newspaper. That is when I learned how truly difficult writing could be. It wasn’t long before I began to second guess that decision.
For me, Writing has always been one of my personal downfalls. I realized that it doesn’t matter if we love or hate writing, it does not determine our skills. There is room for improvement, even returning to school after 20 years, As long as you keep learning. During the weeks in this class, I noticed that prepping for the assignments helped
Experiences with Writing Writing has always been an interest of mine, it’s what I enjoy doing during my free time. Although, I do feel like my writing has weakened with my senior year English class. I made the decision of taking the easy route with Film Analysis to get credit for an English class, in that class I only learned of cinematography and some new vocabulary words. In the class, there were only two movie reports throughout the entire school year other than that writing was never used. Before that, during my junior I wrote papers having to do with a lot of personal opinions and creative writing that I was excited to complete and think about.
Throughout High School, my writing experiences have been different depending on the teacher. During my four years I have had English teachers who either treasure reading their students papers or the exact opposite. Coming from Middle School I loved writing because my teachers always made it exciting for me. Freshman year my teacher had our class only write two essays. She did not even read them judging off of the fact that everyone in the class received an A, therefore I learned nothing. When I moved onto tenth grade I still had a passion for writing even after a bad year of English, but when we starting writing the persuasive research paper I fell in love more. Most of my friends loathed going to English because they knew they had to work
I always loved writing when I was in China. I used occasionally write a few notes about days and feelings on my personal blog. After I came to the United States, there was a time that I didn’t like to write and to read anymore. It is because I had to do those things in a different language and it was quite difficult at first. However, I took a creative writing class later in my high school.
I have always loved to write, but I have always have had difficulty getting my ideas on paper. Over the course of my college career, my academic and scientific writing has greatly improved. When I first start this Travel Writing course, I was really struggling because I was not confident in my abilities to write about my personal experiences. I had major difficulties with distinguishing the practical and philosophical elements that can make a paper impactful. I almost felt embarrassed to share my work, even if I put in all my effort because I did not think was writing style was equivalent to other members in the course.
The way I express my creative side is through writing. For as long as I can remember, I was rendered the “shy” one for not speaking as much as the rest. It wasn’t that I didn't want to talk, most of the time I either didn’t know what to say or how to say it. Eventually, I realized writing was the perfect way to express myself or anything I was thinking. It started when I took to a notebook and began writing out short stories based off a random topic or anything I could think of really.
My experiences in writing have been minimal. I have only learned the basics of writing, like putting together sentences, forming paragraphs with sentences, and things like that. Since I have been taking college English, I can tell my writing has improved a lot. In the future, I hope to be able to improve tremendously at writing essays, paragraphs, research papers, documents, and stories so that I have very little to no errors with drafting and final products. I predict I will be a well rounded writer when I graduate from college.
