I never really liked writing as a child, my handwriting did and still does resemble a drunken preschooler, I much preferred reading. That said, when I did start having to write more complex things, my vocabulary was picked exclusively from cartoons and hardy boy mysteries. Later into my teenage years, I started reading more philosophy and literature that, paired with a superstar tag team of very talented English teachers, made me really enjoy writing. I started looking forward to writing essays, especially persuasive essays, mostly to talk with people who didn't share my view. Moving forward, I don't think my enjoyment of writing will diminish for a long time, and I can see myself writing papers (mostly for Red rocks) for many years to come. …show more content…
Reading better authors than myself makes my shortcomings in the field very obvious, but I spent so much time writing mediocre B plus material that it becomes very easy to slip into bad habits. The biggest goal I have for writing is to use imagery more effectively, while keeping to shorter sentences that don't drag on forever. The second biggest goal I have is to reduce the amount of commas that I use when writing. There are certainly worse problems to have in terms of writing, but it just annoys me to no end and I would really like to address it. The third goal I have is to get better at writing narratives, and in some ways, surpasses the first two. I have a lot of stories that I've been itching to write down, some fiction, some not, but whenever I try to write them, but, aside from a few vivid details and the occasional good simile, it barely resembles the story I remember. For most of the problems I have, proof reading is by far the most important thing I have for improving my writing prowess. Luckily, I have a few family members that can offer insight that the writing center cannot and they've helped me countless times in this endeavor. As far as the narratives go, practice makes it better and repetition makes it perfect. Write the story, reread, find what doesn't live up to the spectacular movie in my head and mumble in frustration until I think of something
All throughout my years of schooling, I’ve had just about, one paper that was about one page long, due every year. My papers never had to be more than one page in length. Therefore, I did not have to do much writing or do many essays. Surely not enough to remember any of the assignments. Writing has never been something I enjoyed doing, so I never bothered to many any memories of my writing experiences. I did not think it was necessary to remember any of them since I only had to do them to get a grade. The only writing experience I remember was the first assignment I had in this English 100 class about a writing experience. All week long, I sat there thinking about what to write about, but nothing came to mind as a topic. Then, one thing came to mind, but it was so very vague, I could not write the length that was needed for the assignment. I could only think of a few sentences to write for it. After sitting for a few moments longer, I thought, how about I write about how difficult it was for me to write this essay before it was due.
Writing has always been my most difficult part of English. Reading, on the other hand, is something I could do all day; however, with writing, I grimace just thinking about it. It was not that I did not have anything to say, because I actually have quite a bit to say. I just could never figure out how to phrase what I had to say in just right way on the page. My mom taught me to read and write at a young age. After that, I would devour any book that I could get my hands on. However, I have had trouble with writing since it became more than just my alphabet and numbers.
Your Writing Experience In Shawnee Community College I have chosen one faculty to interview and ask how important is writing in their job area. I have chosen Mrs. Mindy Reach; I choose Mrs. Reach because I felt more comfortable talking to her. Mrs. Mindy is an academic and retention specialist, Academic advisors help students recognize and achieve their educational goals, primarily at the postsecondary level. They help students examine school programs, recognize their academic strengths and select a major.
With a pencil in my right hand and the wheels of my thought train circling through my head I feel as though I am limitless. When given a “free range of motion” within my writing, I feel as though I can take my audience anywhere. As a writer I enjoy free writing which allows me to use not only my imagination, but my feeling and emotions too. Although I enjoy writing not every writing experience of mine has been positive. I have been critiqued, criticized and chastised for my works, but I have only grown from this harsh commentary.
My experience as an academic writer have been a poor experience while educational. The reasons being I do not particularly take an interest towards writing. Understanding it is valuable skill, causes me to work my way through it. The past years I have done a lot of writing, not just in my English courses, but in all my classes as a high school student, all the way up to College. Senior year of high school I was required to write a twenty-page thesis in order to graduate.
I am Elizabeth Nguyen. I am actually in my senior year of high school. I can say I have had a lot of experience with academic writing and writing in general thanks to all the literary works I have read in high school. Those literary works exposed me to more writing styles and tips, so it is not very difficult for me at all. Writing, to me, is the best form of communication since speaking makes me really anxious.
I have never been passionate about writing, but I have always been a pretty good writer. I was always told that I wrote at a higher level through elementary school and throughout high school, I took two years of Honors English and two years of AP English. I did very well in those classes and usually received A’s on my papers. However, I have never loved writing and would often dread writing assignments.
Literature to me has been uplifting, motivational, and therapeutic; I was hooked from my very first book. No matter what occurred in my life I always had a book or writing as an outlet. My love off reading was the catalyst for my interest in writing. Reading such beautiful novels created a need within me to learn such a craft. My first attempts on my voyage ultimately ended in cringe worthy disasters; however I do believe I have come a long way in my stride to learn all I can on literature. My writing has become much more structured and articulate, I have also seen my literary understanding expand; I do still have a few weaknesses I need to work through, such as my struggle with concentration through timed writing, as well as my less than noteworthy
Throughout High School, my writing experiences have been different depending on the teacher. During my four years I have had English teachers who either treasure reading their students papers or the exact opposite. Coming from Middle School I loved writing because my teachers always made it exciting for me. Freshman year my teacher had our class only write two essays. She did not even read them judging off of the fact that everyone in the class received an A, therefore I learned nothing. When I moved onto tenth grade I still had a passion for writing even after a bad year of English, but when we starting writing the persuasive research paper I fell in love more. Most of my friends loathed going to English because they knew they had to work
I have always loved to write, but I have always have had difficulty getting my ideas on paper. Over the course of my college career, my academic and scientific writing has greatly improved. When I first start this Travel Writing course, I was really struggling because I was not confident in my abilities to write about my personal experiences. I had major difficulties with distinguishing the practical and philosophical elements that can make a paper impactful. I almost felt embarrassed to share my work, even if I put in all my effort because I did not think was writing style was equivalent to other members in the course.
I've always enjoyed writing, even as a child. Anytime I'd receive back an assignment with a good score on it, I would feel really proud of myself. Writing was and always has been my favorite thing to do. Although I'd struggle at times, I strove to get better. With my writing today, I would like to improve everything. From my grammar, expanding my vocabulary, having good voice, etc. I believe that as a writer, there is so much to learn and many ways in which to write. Practice makes perfect, and that may be true. I want to push myself and continue writing because that may be the only way in which I'll be able to discover my fullest
Ever since I was in elementary school, I have had a strong fascination with literature. Overtime, I had a plethora of books lining my bookcases and barely had room for any more. Reading was a necessity to me and it still is to me today. I eat, sleep, and breath literature because I feel like it’s essential to my academic career. Literature does many wonderful things like, teach me about life lessons, transport me to a new world that I have only dreamed about going to, and discover new vocabulary.
I have been writing essays since middle school, gaining experience from multiple teachers all of whom had unique ways of imparting their skills on me as well as my classmates. Barring the basic learning of Writing in middle school, most of my writing thus far has been gained in literature classes. Because they were not solely writing classes, the goal of understanding the literature that was being studied was often placed above improving my writing skills. Almost all of the writing completed in the literature classroom setting were centered on displaying an ability to grasp the concepts from the literature or to prove a concept related to the literature. I also wrote a number of descriptive essays in which I had to write fictional stories in great detail. Another source of writing experience for me would be the occasional essay in the various social studies classes that I partook in. These essays were almost always
My experiences in writing have been minimal. I have only learned the basics of writing, like putting together sentences, forming paragraphs with sentences, and things like that. Since I have been taking college English, I can tell my writing has improved a lot. In the future, I hope to be able to improve tremendously at writing essays, paragraphs, research papers, documents, and stories so that I have very little to no errors with drafting and final products. I predict I will be a well rounded writer when I graduate from college.
My experiences with writing started from a young age. It all started back in elementary school when a local author, Marlane Kennedy, who had written a book about the Circleville Pumpkin Show came to my school and read it to us right before Pumpkin Show break. I loved how I could picture almost every word, and decided at that point in time that I wanted to be an author too. Thence began my short stories. Up until about 6th grade I was writing short story after short story and would give them to my mother to take to work so that she could share them with her friends. But once 7th grade hit, I became distracted with school activities and the stories stopped.
