Michael Jordan is one of the greatest basketball players to ever play the game, on and off of the court. Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 17, 1963. After he was born, he and his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, and he grew up there as a child and a young adult (“Michael Jordan”). His father worked at a General Electric plant as a supervisor. Jordan was raised in a family who only knew working hard and playing sport, but Jordan could never keep steady hours at work because of his dedication to basketball and baseball (Kram; Parks).

Michael decided to go to the University of North Carolina, we he made his mark his rookie year. His Freshman year he started and he found himself leading the team to an ACC Conference Championship, and then won the NCAA tournament with a tight rope jump shot that beat Georgetown University. His Sophomore year came around and he let the ACC Conference, and he also led it his Junior year. He was named College player of the Year for both years, and then left North Carolina and declared for the draft in.(Greene, New York 1992) As Michael was a third draft pick in 1984 for the Chicago Bull in his first pro team. But the summer of his draft before he played for the Bulls he was chose for the Olympic team where him and his team won the Gold medal in Los Angeles, California. Laney high school came short of a shot to compete in the finals. After high school Jordan was awarded a scholarship to play at the University of North Carolina in 1982. Michael Jordan moved to Wilmington, North Carolina while he was still young. Ever since he was old enough to walk, he had a strong love and passion for basketball. His sophomore year of high school, he tried out for the school basketball team. Unfortunately, he failed to make the cut, but his determination and love for the sport did not allow him to give up.
When Jordan didn't make his high school team as a sophomore, he got up at 6:00 am everyday to improve his basketball skills. Jordan's determination would help him later in his career, and it is inspiring to young athletes. Going into college, he was not recognized as a top prospect. He was finally recognized at a basketball camp by Roy Williams, who was the coach of the Kansas basketball team. Roy Williams invited him to the Five Star Camp, which is the top camp in the country. He got there for the final two weeks, and won the camp's MVP. When Jordan won the camp MVP, it made him and college coaches realize he could be a star. He ended up signing with the University of North Carolina, where he earned the starting spot as a freshman. North Carolina won the NCAA championship after Jordan made a last second shot over two defenders to win the game against Georgetown. He went on to win College Player of the Year, and won gold with the US Olympic Team in the summer of

While playing for the Bulls, Jordan received many awards such as, MVP, five championships, Olympic gold medals, slam dunk contests, and many more defensive and offensive awards. The Bulls of the 90’s were a team that, regardless of your team loyalty, you had to watch Michael Jordan. His achievements during that time set a bar that was unreachable for other players. From the time he retired the 2nd time, sportswriters have been looking for someone to replace him someone to fill in for Michael.
