Medieval Speech
Greetings, fellow townsfolk! (cough, cough) It is I, Cornwall the troubadour from Muggleswick! Oh, I forgot. Most of you probably don’t know what a troubadour is. Luckily, I, (cough, cough) the greatest troubadour of all time, will tell all of you what a troubadour really is. Troubadours originated in Provence, which was a region in France. My job is to combine poetry with music to make beautiful songs, and convey a message. In addition, troubadours composed their own music, and you peasants (I mean townsfolk) might even get a chance to see me perform! Troubadours were well known for their songs about love and adventure. These songs were all about heroes fighting monsters and finding love. People refer to troubadours as “poet-singers” because they combine poems with music. I, Cornwall, have traveled the world playing my wonderful songs to royalty and peasants!
As great as I am, I don’t even have a house! I have to travel from town to town, every single day. All I do is cheer up your miserable lives, and I can’t even work in one place. I might as well live in a pineapple under the sea. As you can see, troubadours didn’t work in one location, they traveled to many different towns and kingdoms. I remember back in the day, when I first started my journey in

Us troubadours are very skilled at playing instruments and writing songs. Yes, learning to play an instrument and learning to write songs and poems requires a lot of skill and knowledge. Luckily, I got the proper training to become a professional troubadour. Villagers constantly face problems in their life. Sometimes, they need a break. That’s what troubadours are for! Everyday, we work hard to cheer up your lives. I’ve come to realize that villagers nowadays are always very depressed and tired. That’s why you need people like me! Because of this, troubadours throughout Europe are respected by
Shakespeare’s Richard III, is filled with desires and determination to achieve and fulfill ambition. Shakespeare uses the power of language to explicate Richard’s manipulative ways to fulfill his desires of becoming king, thus doing so by bringing darkness to the content world of others. According to Anderson’s article The Death of a Mind: Study of Shakespeare’s Richard III Richard’s state of mind is oriented around imposing “dark shadows over the positive dispositions of the others’ lives” (Anderson 701); he works at spreading destruction and grievance to those around him. Throughout the play Richard is in his own state of mind, with his main focus on the crown. Act I scene ii, illustrates Richard’s power and manipulative ways through language in order to gain advantage and gain a step forward in achieving the crown. The dialogue between Richard and Lady Anne at King Henry’s funeral exemplifies his manipulation when he uses charming and charismatic words to obtain her attention. Throughout this essay I will agree with Anderson’s point that Richard’s manipulative ploy is a means of fulfilling his ambition. This essay will explicate how Richard manipulates and uses the power of language to exemplify what his deranged state of mind can do to unsuspecting and naive minds. Lady Anne, her character at the beginning of the scene is distressed and angered, however as the scene progresses, Richard’s dialogue with Lady Anne begins to illustrate her naive mind and weak character
Thesis: Soccer is a sport like no other, and it has a very unique culture with in the game itself.
“A freelance professional musician has to be willing to perform a wide variety of musical styles (folk, classical, and pop) in order to please a wide spectrum of audiences. All musical styles are worthy of equal respect since all music is tied to people’s need for emotional, heartfelt expression through memorable melodies. In order to make a living, a musician has to travel to where the jobs are and not be fixated on trying to earn an income from home” (2009).
My life would be incomplete without performing music. I’ve spent time, in concert bands, in bell choirs, in school and church choirs, and singing, playing in music festivals, and in pit bands trying not to laugh my head off at the actors’ improvisations. But the art that truly speaks to my soul does not lie in creating music, it lies in dancing to it.
Shakespeare’s use of imagery, diction, and syntax within Henry IV, Part II aids in portraying King Henry’s state of mind due to his inability to sleep. By personifying sleep within the soliloquy, a great impact is created which creates the illusion that sleep is purposely ignoring King Henry while bestowing its gift on his subjects.
The revolutionary war was a time well known in our history. We grew up learning that all the colonists were tired of the way Britain treated us, what they don’t show at a young age is that not everyone wanted to fight. Not everyone believed that fighting the British was a good idea; some thought it was smart to stay loyal to the British for they had the biggest militia at this time. The only way to face something like that is through encouragement, inspiration, and the wise words from men who want to stand for what they believe in. Many men had the same ideas, this shows that the repetitive ideas were for emphasis and persuasions. Men like Thomas Paine, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Patrick Henry all gave speeches to encourage the people of America to stand up and fight for what’s right. Not only did they sacrifice their careers, some also fought in the war.
For as long as mankind has walked on this earth, music has been an important part of our culture and lifestyles. Each walk of life beats to a different drum. Different cultures use music for many aspects of their lives; for religious purposes, for celebrations, for comfort, for sorrow, for relaxation, for sports, for dances, for energy, for learning, for sleeping, and for sexual experiences. Everyone uses music for something. Music connects with people and reaches them in ways that words simply cannot. Music is a representation of what feelings sound like. It expresses emotion and brings that characteristic out from within us; it tells us a story. Every generation has its’ own sound and different music styles have emerged and become
This essay is about how King Henry rallied his men together to get them ready for battle against the French army. They were looking down upon themselves because they were outnumbered by the French. He made them feel equal as to fighting together as brothers and having brotherhood. I will examine three examples that show how Henry communicates to his men before battle
The poetic devices in Shakespeare’s soliloquy “King Henry IV, part II” illustrates the King’s resent while having difficulties sleeping. When the man that could afford anything under the sun encounters a circumstance his status had no control of, he proceeded to must and bargained to the personification of sleep. Without immediate results, King Henry surrenders his pleading and lies with demise. To portray this, Shakespeare utilizes diction, imagery, and syntax. By stating,“How many thousands of my poorest subjects Are at this hour asleep!
The perception of one’s role and how they fit into a particular community can very important, so it makes sense that feelings of exclusion can be particularly devastating, especially at a young age. Shelby Martinez, who has been my closest friend since high school, has shared her adolescent experiences with these feelings of exclusion, with me on numerous occasions. On many of those instances, she reflected on how much time she spent by herself in her bedroom with headphones on, just listening to music. It was clear that music played a big role for her growing up, so I decided to do my musical ethnography on her. Shelby spent her adolescence in Yuba City, which is a relatively small Northern Californian town that embraces country life, with big focus on agriculture, hunting, and country music. However, Shelby was didn’t hold this same affinity for a rural
Music can also be a differentiating factor for social and economic classes. In lecture twelve (Roma music), the clear distinction between the romungre and vlachs musicals groups proved that music influenced this separation. The types of instruments used, or lack of, tell of the people’s standing in the social and economic ladders. For instance, romungre music is professional, urban, and was played in elaborate settings. In the video excerpt shown during lecture, the well-dressed man played the violin, while the other members played other various instruments such as the cimbalom and piano. The possession of the various instruments is clear evidence that the people in that community have extra money to spend on these luxurious items. In addition to the aesthetics of the performance, the sounds produced by these instruments also suggest a level of sophistication and class. The song began with a sow tempo, which offers a smooth timbre. The tempo then sped up, which showed the virtuosity of performers, suggesting the affluence of the performers, because he was
From where I come from in the Dominican Republic, music plays a big role in the lives of the people. The cultures of music in the country have grown and redefined its African and European roots from into modern eras with more social, and cultural celebrations that vary throughout the different cities and small towns of the island. I grew up in a household made out of three artists that express and display their artistic skills through music and carnaval costumes and masks that they wear every year during the month of February. Before the month comes my uncles will start getting ready drawing their new designs for their costumes for the upcoming carnaval parades, at the same time, they are making music, creating unique sounds with just three instruments. The instruments they love to make their music with are güira, tambora and conga.
The Middle Ages was an era of invasions. It was a dark time in England and across Europe. Where Islam was taking over, the crusades had to take action against that and spread Christianity instead. Values and beliefs were driven from the church. On the other hand, Feudalism, which stands for “the power of the land” was taking over. All these incidents and more inspired the poets and writers to create literature that expressed what was happening in the Middle Ages. One of these productions was the “Song of Roland” it is one of the oldest epic poems that was written in France. In my view the following points taken from this magnificent poem, focus on the values of this era: church was spreading wrong conceptions against Islam in order to spread Christianity; rules and values in society were imposed by the church, when people where believers in god ; land owners are the most powerful in society, that lead to feudalism; one of the knights merits is complying to orders; noble knights fight alone when in need for help till the last breath; vicious sins like falsehood and betrayal are dammed by the kingdom.
The movie «The Kings Speech» is a movie about a man that in the start of the movie is represented as the duke of York. He is the son of the current king, king George the 5th. Early in the movie we are presented with the main problem for the duke, which is his inability to speak publically. They tell us that the duke has something called “Demosthenes” which is a fear of public speaking. We see this problem very early when the duke is about to hold a speech on behalf of the king, but it is made very clear that he is incapable of doing so. The speech is cancelled early and we are introduced to one of his many speech therapists.
