Should people ever be judged by as an individual by a group characteristic that they have been falsely given by those who don't even know them? Sadly being judged by a false group characteristic is a reality that nearly every person on this earth has experience with. Every day, people are judged and discriminated because of false labels given to them by other people who don't actually know who the people being judged and discriminated are. It may be difficult to believe, but the media is responsible for the false labels known as stereotypes and the new-found wide belief that stereotypes are very much true. People are led to believe that stereotypes are true because of how they are portrayed in the media. The reality TV show Blackish (A racist TV show about the “classic” Black Family) is perhaps one of the best examples about how the media's portrayal of stereotypes is leading to an increasing belief in stereotypes. In the TV show Blackish, comedic references, actions, or phrases used quite often. However, many of these references, actions, and phrases include false information/ stereotypes that are usually false and sometimes racist. Racism being more directly shown on a TV shows would not be accepted in most societies, but the media can get away with racism through shows that make it seem funny it seems funny. As characters in TV shows like Blackish use actions and phrases to make stereotypes funny; more people will be lead to believe in stereotypes because it's deemed as funny and not a serious matter.
