For essay 2 I will be synthesizing “Dover Beach” by Matthew Arnold and “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten. I chose these two pieces because they in a way present the same theme of being alone but are very different in the way it is expressed. In “Dover Beach” Arnold talks about being alone with his true love and making sure that they stay true and focuses on all of the things the world does not offer for them. In “Fight Song” Platten expresses her loneliness by talking about losing friends, and feeling depressed but she still has a lot of fight left in her meaning that she won’t give up and will keep fighting. The content is not the only thing that is so different about these two pieces but also the way it is formatted. In “Dover Beach” Arnold
“Dover’s Beach” is a poem by Matthew Arnold. The poem is
“Where Are You Going? Where Have You Been,” is a testament of a true artist, because art can be interpreted into many forms and meanings. These meanings can differ from person to person, such as each reader of this tale can walk away with a different understanding of what the deeper implication may be. With the element of religious metaphors and allusions, the author is able to connect her short story to a much deeper value that pertains to today’s society and it’s current relations with religion.
One may never realize the people surrounding one’s everyday life, crammed with bodies of contrasting characters, pasts’, and styles; however, who are these people genuinely? Arnold Friend, in the short story, “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been” by Joyce Carol Oates, managed to deceive with his false characteristics. Arnold Friend was brought to life from Oates’s imagination of the mischievous serial killer Charles Schmid. Arnold Friend and Charles Schmid similarly attempted to delude with false attributes, had an interest in women, deceived women, both tried to create a false imagine for themselves, however Friend knew about everything about his victim while Schmid did not.
Arnold Friend or “an old fiend”, is a deceiving manipulative older male who could be your father and has his sidekick who is even older, Arnold stuffs his boots, has a picture of himself sprayed painted on the side of his car that looks like a pumpkin, who openly admits that he’s coming for you and that he stalks you, he’s essentially a sociopath who flirts by threatening you and your family. Arnold aims in on the frailty and aspirations of those around him in particular Connie's romantic fantasies, he utilizes
in a well written essay, compare/contrast the way the author of our class novel and the author of the article, poem, OR short story use imagery and tone to reveal their attitudes toward their life experience. You may only choose ONE piece of literature to compare/contrast your novel.
Essay two was a rhetorical analysis of a song of my choice. The purpose of writing was to describe and evaluate the author's claim along with their use of rhetorical devices. My song choice was "FDT part 2" by YG, G-Eazy and Macklemore. I struggled with run-on sentences and fragments in my draft. Mrs. Eastin said I had "few small issues with word choice and minor technical issues".
The topic I have chosen to compare and contrast was Kyle and Arnold. Overall, both of them have more difference than similarities. Kyle is much younger than Arnold. Arnold is about 30 years old because of the way he looks. Kyle is still 15-16 years old because he still lives with his parents and obeys to their rules. Another difference is that Kyle does justice and Arnold is unlawful. Kyle will always follow the rules and never break the law. He will only do what he’s not told to do if it's for the good of things. The time when Kyle saved Allison from the abductor by hitting him with the geode. He broke his parents rules to save someone. Arnold on the other hand doesn’t do justice. His main goal is to abduct Connie and possibly rape her. Also,
In Joyce Carol Oate’s “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” we are introduced to Arnold Friend. Friend embodies a classical villain that readers have been exposed to throughout the history of time, a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Much of Friends character is modeled after Charles Perrault, Little Red Riding Hood‘s own wolf. Certainly there are obvious differences in “Where Are You Going? Where Have You Been?” and in the folk tale of Little Red Riding Hood. However; the theme and allegory are much the same in both stories. Arnold Friend echoes a big bad wolf, and there are valid lessons are be learned in this short story.
After I chose my music video, I planed how I would order my essay to implement Blacc’s entire purpose and message within the video. This was the most challenging part for me, because the video contained a message within a story and was difficult to not summarize too much of the video without leaving out important details. I was able to speak with Ms. Timberman during class and decided that it was best to summarize the story within the video and then analyze what the message within the video was and how the artist used those images and lyrics to effectively relay that message to me as the viewer. While writing I also learned what telling sentences are and that I should show what my message is through my writing rather than telling them. This allowed me to catch myself when I began to write too many telling sentences.
In approving healthy behaviors or removing unhealthy ones, people progress through five levels linked to their readiness to changes. These five stages are in the Transtheoretical Model of Change are pre-contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance. At each stage, different intervention strategies will help people progress to the next stage. The Transtheoretical Model of Change draws from a number of different theories. It was first used in psychotherapy by Prochaska in 1979.
Arnold from the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian and Verity from Code Name Verity never met each other, their books take place on complete opposite sides of the earth and are separated by over seventy years, but they have much more in common than one might think.
When it comes to dealing with accidents, it's best to have coverage limits that reflect the needs of your business. With this in mind, you'll need to consider commercial grade protection. Driving vehicles specifically for commercial purposes requires more coverage than the average motorists, this is due to the higher amount of risk you're exposed to. Don't leave this to chance and assume your basic coverage is going to help you when something outside of your control happens to the company's fleet. Gain peace of mind, talk to an agent and understand options available to you.
This film was designed well. I felt that this film was intended to help people understand schizophrenia from the view point of the person with the mental illness. It changed my perception of people with this mental illness. Before watching this film, I was unware of the functions that each part of the brain took and the effects on each part of the brain for a person with this mental illness. I learned that the brain of a person with schizophrenia is physiologically and anatomically different. One comment that was made on the video that changed my previously held believes was that people with schizophrenia turn to drugs for a solution. Before, I thought that people with schizophrenia
