Essay two was a rhetorical analysis of a song of my choice. The purpose of writing was to describe and evaluate the author's claim along with their use of rhetorical devices. My song choice was "FDT part 2" by YG, G-Eazy and Macklemore. I struggled with run-on sentences and fragments in my draft. Mrs. Eastin said I had "few small issues with word choice and minor technical issues". She also said that I needed a “conclusion sentence" on two different paragraphs (Eastin). After reviewing, I saw what errors she was talking about and how my paragraphs ended. A weakness I noticed was that the citations formatting was off. I hope to continue improve in MLA format and citing properly. Later, Mrs. Eastin said I had a "well written introduction and
Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”, written by lead singer Freddie Mercury, is an elaborate and intriguing best-selling song from 1975. There is much speculation about what this song could be about, but there is a general understanding that no matter it is about, the song is used to express Mercury’s feelings. Throughout the song, there are various shifts in tone and music style, which are very important in demonstrating Mercury’s emotions toward himself and others. The song is symbolic of Mercury’s emotional struggles, and through various rhetorical strategies he conveys his confused and fragile emotions to the listeners.
Has there ever been a tragedy in your life that made you hit rock bottom? Was there someone in your life that changed you when they passed? Have you ever lost somebody close to you? Cheryl Strayed expresses, in her book Wild, that everybody handles grief differently. She also would like everybody to know that anybody can come back from hitting rock bottom. This essay will evaluate Strayed’s use of rhetorical appeals and rhetorical analysis in order to show how Strayed unsuccessful crafted her memoir Wild.
Kenneth Burke’s Five Master Terms exist to bring to light the motivation behind, theoretically, any bit of text to which we care to apply them. The beauty of this Pentad is its fundamentality in regards to the motivations humans have in creating words and meaning using the tools of language available. This doesn’t just apply to long-winded theses regarding the nature of dramatistic meaning, though perhaps something like that would be more up Burke’s alley. No, in this case I plan to utilize his methods for a more seemingly mundane example, the motivations behind something as simple as song lyrics.
Many great writers have a way of connecting to their audience and influence the way we analyze their writing strategies. Cheryl Strayed created a biography, Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, about her life changing experience that allows us the opportunity to apply aspects of a rhetorical analysis to her writing. Cheryl’s memory of her journey along the Pacific Crest Trail, that extends over 1,000 miles from Mexico to Canada, provides us with explicit details and evidence that tie into her motives and conditions for writing and her intended audience. Cheryl also makes appeals to her knowledge, trustworthiness, and emotions that help us illustrate her insights as she traveled along the trail.
Nonconformity allows people to go against a prevailing rule so that they may do as they please.
"Take Me to Church" is a music video by singer Hozier which argues against homophobia and for the rights of homosexuals. The arguments are made using a combination of ethos, logos, and pathos to persuade the audience. The video begins by portraying two men who are romantically involved. The men are then attacked by a group of people because of their life style choice. The video then argues for the two main characters and against the gang.
Imagine you were a woman. How much pain are you willing to go trough I order to meet the social standards of society? Would you try plastic surgery, starving yourself, or shove things down your throat? Women have become so self-aware of their physical appearance to the extent where they are willing to do any means necessary to receive their desired figure.
LGBT representation is a touchy subject, and Amy is one of the few brave enough to explore the topic. However, she left more than a few holes in her argument, biting off more than she could chew. Her position on the misrepresentation of bisexuals in TV was ineffective at persuading her audience, because of her lack of concrete evidence, misdirection of audiences, and contradictory statements.
Aguilera song is not really about being sad or depression. Her music video and effective use of ethos, pathos, and logo are to help us realize the importance of people around us, especially family. More often than naught protest music is often associated with war and politics and a little less with the social norms of the current society and culture. The most iconic artist that did challenge and changed the social norms was Elvis, even though at the time he was not aware of doing so.
Hozier’s 2015 song “Work Song” suggests that true love comes from hard work, devotion, and sense of faith. The author creates a story that illustrates how someone who is miserable and at his lowest point, can find love and finally have a greater purpose. Hozier’s song encourages his listeners by showing them that true love can make someone strive to be better. As the song progresses, rhythm, the juxtaposition an image, and careful diction convey that above all, love is the root of happiness, but it is not achieved without laborious work.

The first essay was a persuasive essay on the right for gays/lesbians to marry. I believe that my first essay could have been a lot better. I think if I had based my paper on the topic sentences that I put together in the outline my paper would have been a lot better than
Until I started this rhetorical analysis paper I wasn’t aware that the things I display in my room say things about me. I never thought about how they make me look as a person or what my audience would assume about me based on these items. When I started analyzing, all these questions started popping up. I was finally able to step back and see myself how others might see me. When asked by my teacher to pick 3 items that describe myself from my bedroom I didn’t have any trouble picking them out. When it came down to it, I 'd always choose the same 3 items: A wall of family pictures, a Pride flag and a mirror with notes and pictures all over it.
