Family, a simple six letter word with meaning that goes beyond anything known to man. What could be better than this heartwarming six-letter word? Ohana, because it’s five letters. If you don’t know the old 90’s cartoon, Lilo & Stitch, “Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.” We love, cherish, and support them with every bone in our bodies, but we seem to take them for granted as well. From childhood to adulthood we seem to teeter on the line between the two. Family is typically seen as something that is defined by genetics and the idea that blood is what makes a family. This could not be less true. In today’s society family should not be defined by the blood that runs through your veins or your last name, it should be the amount of love that exudes from your heart. Whether you were born into a family, adopted or in the foster care system, your family members are the ones who you share moments of love and joy with, not just a last name. We receive the utmost amount of love and support from them and gain pretty much every piece of knowledge that we need in order to prosper in life from them. The …show more content…

We must not discourage our families for trying to pass such beliefs down to our generation for they are just trying to do what their parents had taught them. I feel as if this is where most of the problems with families arise from. If you do not agree with your family’s views and vice versa, both sides should respect the other and come to a mutual agreement. Whether we like it or not, we cannot change the very foundation our parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. were raised on. This is where we must step in and make sure that only the purest of OUR beliefs and traditions are passed down while teaching to be accepting and respectful of other views as
