Blood I Carry: The Definition Of Family

Family can be defined as people who are related to you, consisting of (but not limited to): grandparents, parents, siblings, and children. Our families affect who we are by raising us in a particular way that coincides with their culture and beliefs. As we age and learn more, we can decide whether we will keep these beliefs or accept a new truth. This can cause people to either embrace their family, or distance themselves.

The dictionary definition of family is “a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household.” or even “all the descendants of a common ancestor.” In some cases, that is not always true. Most families hardly even have both parents in the picture. Some kids get even adopted or put into foster care, yet the guardians are there for them nonetheless. To me, family is so much more than that.

Even though every person will get into many other relationships with people such as friends and lovers throughout their life, his/her family is the only relationship that came by nature. Family is something that no one can deny, because of the connection in blood and genes. According to the dictionary family is a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. Or family is from the descendants of a common ancestor. According to society family is a group, it can be related are not. My definition of family is anyone who is there for you through good and bad, someone who always have your back no matter what. Family is not just blood. However some of the best families are the ones you are not related to.

The Meaning of Family People define family many different ways because it depends on their perspective. Family to me, is having someone or a group of people you can trust and have support with each other no matter what crisis a family goes through. It is having people they are willing to risk their lives for. In the novels, The Good Earth, King Lear, and As I Lay Dying, these show the definition of what it means to be a family.

What is family? Fam-i-ly (fam’ə le, fam’le) n., any group of persons closely related by blood, as parents, children, uncles, aunts, and cousins (Webster’s 505). Who decided the definition of family? Who has the say as to what family really means? As far as I’m concerned, anyone who is is a big part of your life, could be considered family. Although the definition of family is someone who is related to you by birth, blood doesn’t decide who your family is, close connections and support do.

Family is supposed to listen to you when you're in need. Family is supposed to have your back. Family is supposed to be loyal. Family is supposed to be dependable. Family is supposed to accept you at your worst and best moments. Family is supposed to make you laugh and smile. Family is the number one unconditional love that everyone has. Whether it be the unconditional love from immediate family members or close friends, everyone has that one person they go to in times of need. It’s funny how those closest to you can hurt you the most.

I define family by a group of people that communicate on regular basic, care for each other, and love each other unconditionally. I think that I was able to construct that definition when I realized that my “relatives” weren’t related to me at all. And then realized I talk to the people who I was related to all more than the people who were considered “blood”. I’ve never been to a family house where I have considered them perfect, every family has their personal issues as well as their own strength.

What is the true definition of the word “Family”? Does it only mean a typical Mother Father and siblings ? Or can it possibly mean more than that ? A family is any group or cluster of people that love each other and act as a family in one way or another. You could be a family even though you all do not have the same parents or live in the same exact house.

What is a family? Family is defined in many different ways by different people. The main purpose in being a part of a family is it being a safe haven. When something goes wrong, your family should be the first group of people you would turn to. I define family as being a group of people who always sticks together no matter what the situation may be.

Family is typically seen as something that is defined by genetics and the idea that blood is what makes a family. This could not be less true. In today’s society family should not be defined by the blood that runs through your veins or your last name, it should be the amount of love that exudes from your heart. Whether you were born into a family, adopted or in the foster care system, your family members are the ones who you share moments of love and joy with, not just a last name.

Family as defined by Webster’s College Dictionary can be one of many different people. Family can be your parents, spouse, children, brother, sister, grandmother, uncle, any blood relative, or even people who are not blood related that share that common bond (Webster 475). My definition of family is similar to Webster’s, but I feel that there is more to it than just being a blood relative or close friend. A person’s actions, beliefs, and morals play a major role in deciding who makes it into that “family” group. Family becomes more of an idea or feeling, like love or hate, than just who a person is or where they fall in

What is family? To clearly understand how they all variously define family you need to dive deep into the context of their works. A couple of the authors use a textbook example of family and others create their own idea of the concept.

Everywhere around the world, in every different culture, people are grouped into families. The word family can be defined as a group of people bound together over time, because of mutual consent, birth and or adoptions/ placement or simply people who consume responsibilities for one other.

Journal Synapsis 4 In chapter ten the textbook describes a family as two or more people living together who are related by birth, marriage, or adoption. I believe that family are also individuals that make you feel loved or happy in ways that no one else makes you feel. Its more then just money that can buy these feelings for a short moment that also seems to be a tremendous issues form long ago. The person with the most things often has a really big family, but the thing is that those people tend to have problems with each other like addictions, depression because although they might have many things many power there is no love.
