What is a family? Family is often categorized as being people with whom you share the same blood. While it is true, family often tends to go a lot deeper than that. Being a family means loving each other and trusting each other. In the novel “The Marrow Thieves”, it demonstrates to us that you can still be a family regardless of your biological relationship. The novel shows us that to be a family, you need trust, care, and partnership with one another. The novel focuses on our main character, Frenchie, as he finds kinship with both his biological family and his makeshift family that he has formed with other indigenous people. Both families show that their bond goes beyond just being together. The bond they share all together is what makes them …show more content…
Caring for each other means looking out for each other, helping each other and loving each other, sometimes so much that you would be willing to sacrifice certain things for them, one of those things being your life. Care nurtures growth and can be a way of support. In the novel, it is made clear that the family cares very deeply about one another. Miig, always looking out for his family and leading them, making sure they will be safe, Frenchie always trying to protect his family from any sort of danger, like the time he ran at the potentially electrified fence so that Miig wouldn't be in any danger of getting hurt. A lot of scenes are illustrated in the novel for us to see the regard in which they hold each other in. In the beginning, while Frenchie still had his brother Mitch with him, they were encountered by recruiters. Mitch was quick to come up with a plan in which would allow Frechie to escape, but would eventually lead to him being captured and taken by the recruiters. Ultimately willingly self-sacrificing himself in order to let Frenchie get away from the recruiters. Additionally, another example of sacrifice in this novel would be when Frenchie and his family had found a barn in which they could camp the night in. We learn that the family was ambushed by recruiters. Minerva chose to sacrifice herself and give …show more content…
When trying to achieve a common goal or come to an agreement from a favorable standpoint, it is important that you and the others develop a sense of partnership, in the case that only caring for each other simply will not do. While care helps you look out for one another, it might not always help you come to certain agreements. Partnerships work together to achieve common goals. It is important as it promotes growth, maturity and responsibility. It helps you learn skills and exposes you to a lot of things that you usually pick up along the way, all the while making things easier and less stressful for you as there are others with whom you can divide the workload with.. In a world where survival is of the necessity and there are possible dangers everywhere you go, it is good to be working alongside people rather than alone. This means that each member contributes in their own unique way. Partnership is essential to the group's survival. As they work and overcome lots of troubles and obstacles together,it is important that every member pulls their weight and contributes in ways that can help the family. Something in our day to day life that often involves partnership is chores. Everyone in the household contributes and does their part in order to help out, with the common goal in mind being to get the house clean and to tidy the place up. In “ The Marrow Thieves”, they describe that everyone in the family has a

They are a family built around trust and sacrifice. In The Marrow Thieves, the theme of self sacrifice is shown during Mitch’s sacrifice for Frenchie, Minerva’s staying behind for the family, and Mitch trusting and protecting many people. At the beginning of the novel, Mitch sacrifices himself because
An example of how her family values each other is her description of the conventions and norms of her family. They are thoroughly supportive of one another, attending every graduation, baby shower, birthday, and house warming party. Her father and siblings have burial plots together so that they are never separated. Life is lived with everyone being connected and concerned for not only each person’s well-being, but happiness as well. She says her “relatives form an alliance that represents a genuine and enduring love of family…”
The parents are responsible for the kids and the kids are told to look at for their siblings. Every family functions different and looks different but in the end they all share a sense of responsibility for each family member. Family and responsibility is something everyone can relate to. Family is a basic need that is programmed inside of us and we all understand the significance of it. Using characters in a family immediately connects with the reader and helps them understand the relationship between the characters.

In many cultures taking care of the family is the role of a parent or an adult; however, as shown in “Flavio’s Home”, many times in poorer cultures the role of taking care of siblings is placed onto the older children in the family. Flavio has the burden of taking care of the children in his family and taking care of the household chores while his parents are at work. He is only 12 years old yet “his body [is] sagging from exhaustion” and he “has the look of an old man” (Parks, 127). Taking care of his family from such a young age has taken a toll on Flavio both physically and mentally and he never got to live his life as a child because he was always tasked with taking care of everything else within the family. Despite all of the hard work that Flavio puts in, the family is still poor and is barely able to survive. Though taking responsibility for his family has shaped Flavio to be responsible and a hard worker, it has also lead to him being physically sick. Flavio suffers from “bronchial asthma, malnutrition and…tuberculosis,” which will inevitably lead to his death within a year or less (Parks, 130). Despite the gloomy outlook for his life Flavio is not
Ma begins the story as the stereotypical housewife - responsible for cooking, cleaning, and the children. However, as the physical journey progresses, Ma becomes a member responsible for family in the spiritual sense (what it means to be family) from that of physical responsibilities. As the plot continues, and as the family is seemingly spiraling to a place of no return, Ma presents the idea of “All we got is the family unbroke. Like a bunch of cows, when the lobos are ranging, stick all together. I ain’t scared while we’re all here,” (pp. 271) further develops the theme of family and community.
In every home, there is a different definition of family and how family should treat each other. Two short stories were read by an author named Flannery O’Connor. “A Good Man is Hard to Find”. It was about a dysfunctional family who encounters a criminal named “The Misfit”. The grandmother which is the main character is very judgmental towards others and sometimes her own family at times. This story starts off with a disagreement on where to go for a family trip, but they decide on going to Florida for the family trip after a while of arguing. On this trip, it showed what type of family they are. They talk about everything with one another as well as bicker and fight but at the end of the day, they are still family and love each other. They come together the most in panicking situations such as the accident and waiting for a car to help them. The point of this paper is the theme of family. Specifically, family is a theme in this short story because it depicts a dysfunctional family; the family you see on a crazy television show and can’t get enough of because they’re funny but also they have serious moments. There 's the two troublesome and annoying kids, the hot-headed dad who tries to maintain control of a situation and fails, the wife busy attending to the baby, and the grandmother, who 's a case all to herself (and also the main character). Though the story starts out seeming like a comedy, it takes a serious turn when the family encounters a criminal, who kills them
In contrast, without our family in every individual’s life we will not be where we are today, and they are the causes of our existence because without the family we can be a living in the society. That is every one of us has to be appricaitetive to which ever family we come from or we are been raised. Family consists of father, mother, brothers, sister, uncle, Aunty, cousins, half brother, half sister and so many more, but the most adorable, and loving person among those listed above is the mother. The job is of a mother in a child’s life is the greatest thing ever on earth. Our mothers should be our first priority in anything we doing, got pregnant for nine months, gave birth, and nurtures till we became an adult. In analysis, Harrient Jacobs stated the bond between mother and child. “I bored three holes, one above another. Then I bordered out the interstices between. I thus succeeded in making one hole about an inch long and an inch broad. I sat by it till late into the night, to enjoy the little whiff air that floated in. In the morning I watched for my children”. Linda’s heart is filled with sadness, and sorrow because she want watch Ben, and Hellen grow up in her hands, but circumstances separate her from kids, and it makes her sad most time. She could only see her kids through the holes. Linda could have found her escape route to the south without her kids, but she remember the pain, and agony she went through before she gave birth to those two kids made hang around in an hiding place, so she could always see Ben, and Hellen growing up to become an
A family is two or more people who consider themselves family and who assume obligations, functions, and responsibilities generally essential to healthy family life. (Barker, 1999. p.155). Families create patterns that are passed on from grandparents to parents and from parents
At times, individuals with similar business interest may form a partnership in order share responsibility and resources in operating a business. On the other hand, a partnership can be formed where one individual is solely a financial partner, while the other may be an operating partner. Partnerships come with their advantages and disadvantages as well. The advantages of partnerships are they are easy to establish, combines the skills and resources of two or more people and increases the ability to raise funding for the business. The disadvantages of partnerships are; profits must be shared, increased possibility of conflict, interdependence of decision making and unlimited liability. Regardless of the arrangement, partnerships are an excellent opportunity for individuals to join together and use their resources, finances and talent to create a successful business.

Partnership is the relations which exists between partners carrying on a business in common with a view of profit, which means there must be some continuity or repetition of trading activities and working on behalf of each other. (James 2014, p. 506-507)
This is a good factor to have in life. As they say “two heads are better than one”. Having teamwork can grow a lot of your skills, such as social skills, working together to get better, and learning not from just your point of view. A quote from a auto says “Synergy is not better than my way or your way. It’s our way.”.
The word family means everything you could ask of a person and more. The real definition of family is, “a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household”. This definition of family is not the one a use. Family to me is everyone who is there for you, blood or not. I consider my close best friends as family because they are always there, and I know I can come to them. I also consider most people who are related to me by blood family. However, since I don't talk or really know my biological father, I don't consider him as a part of my family and I never will. I think it's important for people to know that you are able to choose your family and block out those that you know you should. The best thing to do is to make sure
