Kyra’s Journal:
Journal Entry 1; Night Day 1 (Introduction)
Dear Diary… my new friend. Shall I call you “friend” from now on? Yes I will.
Without this pen that washed up on the shore, you may have never been written in. But you are being written in, so that is good! Right? Anyways, this day was filled with much progress and I feel that we can make it! We will make it to the day when we can gain a signal from a ship, or a plane, or maybe a UFO, with that radio the captain had courageously salvaged from some of the ship debris that came ashore today. Am I too optimistic right now?
It was a huge surprise. My group and I were scavenging the island and taking “stock” of all of the resources on the island earlier today, in the scorching hot afternoon sun. We discovered some fruit trees, I think it was a banana… or

The captain disappeared from our site as he went behind the wreckage. We were literally biting our nails for him, since he was our only source of leadership, aside from the council who was just too busy watching our every move. It must have been hours, but finally, the captain emerged with a radio set… it seemed like it was in perfect condition. It was only five minutes. It was like gold. After that, it was back to seeing what we have on this island. Things have changed a lot after almost two full weeks. Hopefully a buffet comes floating ashore!
We reported back to central camp, as I call it. Everyone gathers here once they complete their tasks, and we were second to last. I think we are getting better… working together… after almost two weeks. The leadership of the council and captain is getting better. They are trying to establish a positive relationship with us. Politics in the work! Leaders gain respect and they get more authority. We give them a lot of respect, they give us choices, and take everything into consideration. I like our system. They will get my vote for best government
There are many qualities that people possess which make them a leader. For example, a leader is responsible and will own their actions instead of blaming other people. Also, a leader is creative. They can think outside of the box and come up with the most efficient solutions to complex problems. Furthermore, a good leader is honest and does not deceive others for their own selfish interests. Leaders are all this and much, much more. They are excellent communicators with lots of confidence and commitment. In the play, The Diary of Anne Frank, the character Mr. Frank expresses these traits and proves that he is a leader that people want to follow.
Adolescents experience a developmental journey as they transition from child to adult, and in doing so are faced with many developmental milestones. Physical, cognitive, social and emotional changes are occurring during this tumultuous stage of life, and making sense of one’s self and identity becomes a priority. Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian addresses the challenges of adolescence in an engaging tale, but deals with minority communities and cultures as well.

Ideally, if one were to go into hiding, they would like to live comfortably. Based on the description given by Anne Frank in her diary, the annex in which she was hiding in wouldn’t have been the most comfortable living situation. Cramped, quiet, yet resourceful, the liberties of the annex was very limited. Using the information provided by The Diary of a Young Girl and The Diary of Anne Frank, the living conditions of the annex were revealed. With a small living space, the constant need to remain secretive, and the limited resources, the Franks and the Van Daans must have needed much cooperation in order to live in peace.
In the novel The Diary of a Young Girl written by Anne Frank, Anne was a jewish girl living in the age of World War Two. She faced all kinds of adversity as she transitioned into a new life of hiding and survival. It is truly remarkable that a young woman was able to handle this adversity at such a young age.
I had a lot of fun this summer. I spent a great amount of time with my family and friends. This summer I hung out with my friends, I went on some vacations, and I worked at True Value.

Yes, there are many things that I would have done sooner/differently if I would have know how helpful they were. I am the type of person who does not like to try new things or just get so ready for something new but not follow through. In the last month, I have started scheduling my time better. During my last few months in school I have had many bumps along the way. I had lessons on time management in the first few course, but didn't follow through with them. With the help of my career advisor,Jasmine, she has gave me tons of tips on managing schoolwork. If I had started a schedule in the beginning of school I woluld have not become so overwhelmed when unexpected things happend.
