In today’s world, every little thing celebrities do become a headline. The media publish exclusives and people tend to soak them up. Why? Simply put, it sells. There is an audience that wants to read and see such material, so the media are happy to comply. However, while some argue that celebrities have a private life that should remain so, the media does not have a right to publish their every personal detail. However, when it comes to actions that have been taken and could still potentially harm the safety of others, then the public has a right to know. When In Touch, a gossip magazine, disclosed in 2015 that Josh Duggar, star of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting, was accused of molesting four of his sisters and a family friend, all minors, in …show more content…
However, their profession comes at a price which, unfortunately, more often than not involves a lack of personal space. This is true of Josh Duggar and the rest of the family, which tends to portray themselves as wholesome, moral and upright individuals on their hit television show on TLC. This scandal has certainly left a ding on their otherwise wholesome, moral and upright family image, which viewers are now questioning. While celebrities often argue that they have a right to their privacy, more so to avoid being chased after by crazed fans and paparazzi, they often push for stricter regulations to privacy laws. However, truly defining privacy protections can be difficult to achieve, and a gray area. More often than not, celebrities want to cover up details of their private lives by stating that they are being intruded on. Though, most often than not – and true in Josh Duggar’s situation – this is a way for them to attempt to control negative publicity and stop others from further investigating their …show more content…
While some will argue that they should have the power to decide what part of their lives they what to make public. And, how that the media should know how to navigate these limits so that their privacy is maintained, we are not dealing with an exaggerated or false story here. In Touch magazine was NOT purposely trying to manipulate the facts. Though, I do understand how some will feel like the magazine is trying to exploit the story (and family) to obtain a newsworthy article that will sell magazines off their newsstand. It does feel unethical and causes a lot of disturbances in the lives of the family
Josh Duggar admitted to molesting some of his sisters when they were younger. Right as the world was figuring out how to move on past this scandal, it was revealed that Josh Duggar had been using the website Ashley Madison to find women to cheat on his pregnant wife Anna with and that he had actually met up with people from the site. Fellowship of the Minds actually says that Ted Cruz's email address was also in the database for Ashley Madison subscribers.
Marjorie Jackson mentioned in her book about how important purity is until marriage. There was some discussion about courtship and how important it is to investigate the family of the person you are entering into a relationship with. Many readers thought this was another jab at the Duggar family regarding the scandals that broke in 2015. Jackson and Josiah Duggar had just announced their courtship just before the molestation scandal was thrown out into the public and shortly after, she disappeared from the spotlight. The Duggar family didn't announce the separation until after the Ashley Madison hack revealed Josh Duggar's name.
The past several months have been hectic where the Duggars are concerned. Between Josh Duggar admitting he molested five girls in May, and getting caught in the Ashley Madison scandal, the once squeaky-clean image he portrayed has been tarnished beyond repair. All sorts of sources have discussed him – even websites such as Fox News and CBS News have written stories on Josh.
Josh admits that he molested four girls up to four to five different times. Jim Bob, Josh´s father says, ¨Even though my son committed this crime I believed after Josh got a stern talk from my police officer friend the molestation would stop¨ (Timeline). Sadly for the Duggar family they never thought this rough time would take a turn for the worst. In touch Magazine tells
When it comes to the press having their freedoms in writing and reporting news as well as people’s right to their own privacy, there is a line that should not be crossed in the process. For example, there have been many cases where people have been wrongly accused of crimes such as murders or even having private parts of their lives exposed. Due to this exposure, the public can see and create their opinions about them whether the information is truthful or not. Events like these can and have ruined the lives of innocent people. They cannot go back to their normal lives simply because the media has already brought too much attention to it. Therefore, it is extremely important that there are certain boundaries that should not be crossed. Jack McCullough is a perfect example of someone who was wrongly accused of a murder that he did not commit; eventually,
“Everyone has a right to their own opinion”, a fairly famous quote both true for celebrities and ordinary citizens alike. When there’s a topic getting a lot of attention from the main media outlets, celebrities are asked for their opinion on where they stand on the topic. Yet, whether they are asked to give a statement or not, they are still allowed to have the right to do so. No matter how large or small your influence is in society, your voice shouldn’t be hushed away because it wasn't as agreeable as the others.
Shrugging off the importance of these incidents and making excuses for Josh were a disastrous move on their part when they agreed to the live interviews to discuss the reasons behind the scandal that broke out in hope to contain that can of worms that they put in their past. Their denials, excuses and nonchalant attitudes more than likely was the last straw that was needed to break ties with TLC that lead to making the cancellation of the show final. People may forgive, but there are many that don’t forget. This might be a stepping stone that can cause some problems with their new television show idea taking off.
Respect As a journalist, you do chase for information in order to get a full facts news for readers. However, always respect everyone’s right to keep their information private as they do not want to be involved in sensationalistic and unjustified disclosure. Intruding someone’s privacy is acceptable when it involves overriding public interest. What is important, public has the right to know about everything. Respect both individuals who have the information and individuals who have the right to know.
The value that privacy holds is crucial not only applies to everyday people, but for celebrities as well. For instance, in history, a famous woman named Princess Diana was killed in a car crash just because of paparazzi chasing her to mercilessly steal bits of pieces about her relationship with Prince Charles. Her bodyguards had to protect her and maintain her privacy so they drove at a really high speed to get away from the photographers. Similarly, O.J Simpson had to steer his kids away from social media during his case and had to suffer the loss of not having the opportunity of appropriately visiting his children for the last time and saying their last goodbyes to each other. Think about it for a moment, without
How do we as a society play a part in the demise of an actor, athletes, and musical artist? We alienate them when they are a part of any scandal or scandals, companies drop them from their products, magazines, tabloids, and media outlets discuss the scandal non-stop, flooding us with the story non-stop. Whoever is a part of the scandal is often given meaningless interviews or book and movie deals. Any and everything the celebrity has done in the past, as well as the party of the alleged scandal is dredged up. This is often called “skeletons in the closet”. What they don’t want out is often exposed and even if it’s not true or a matter of privacy, we don’t care, all we want is the juicy info.
Stars life Tom Cruise and Brittany Spears started off with a good life and carrier and then something about their personal life, what they did or ideas they had, go leaked out and now they have a horrible reputation. Some may say a person’s private life and social life should mix to share information about the person and protect others from dishonesty and confusion during events. If people are running for jobs like a government official all of their beliefs need to be shared with the citizens voting for them. Court cases are another thing that all the facts about a person should be shared where it cannot be held against that person. Although in some cases personal information should be shared about a person’s beliefs, not all beliefs should be shared at a work place, like religious beliefs should be shared at a work place, like religious beliefs.
Society should already realise that celebrities are also normal human beings and they are just ordinary people with ordinary life. Violation of their privacy rights for the sake of enjoyment of the society is definitely unacceptable. Individuals including media must behave in a respectful manner towards a person's private and family life. Respect between individuals is a crucial value it is essential to ensure peace and harmony in the society. The importance of respect is highlighted by The Golden Rule that is to earn respect, we must first respect others
Celebrities have a right to have their own privacy, and the paparazzi had better not be allowed to restrict their lives. Furthermore, photographers and journalists must not be permitted to make news that can influence celebrities' success adversely. The rights of celebrities for privacy have always been abused, so they need to defend their rights, despite their profession. Though they are public figures, this does not mean that the publish of every detail of their private lives is justifiable. It is legitimate to take pictures when they are at the stage or on the red carpet, yet most cases they must be left alone. However, the media always inclines to release both sensational and negative news to public. The latest pattern is the Chris Brown and Rihanna domestic abuse scandal ("Chris Brown and Rihanna: A Dangerous Relationship" 1). This really influenced Chris
The downside of fame is the interference of the media in one’s life. Stories concerning celebrities are likely to attract customers, just for entertainment purposes. Celebrities’ life is publicized, criticized and mocked at. Reporting celebrities downfall seems to be particularly appealing to the public, and it seems that hardly a day passes without the news reporting a celebrity’s’ downfall. Some people are obsessed with famous people, their life styles, and have desire for more information. Media’s negative role destroys the famous people’s lives. Famous people deserve privacy and respect. This essay will discuss the unfair treatment received by famous people from the media.
Everyone dreams of earning fame and fortune. People who are popular by virtue of their professions, whether it is acting, sports or politics, try their best to earn the admiration and respect of the public. This is because a huge fan base following can always use their advantage irrespective of whether you are an actor or a politician. However, this fame and fan following comes at a price: the loss of their privacy. Shakelford defined privacy as, “Privacy is a vast concept encompassing freedom of thought, freedom of bodily integrity, solitude, information integrity, freedom of surveillance, and the protection of reputation and personality”.(Shakelford,132) Many newspapers, magazines, television programs, make money by reporting on private lives of public figures such as politicians, sports person, celebrities, entertainers, and others. Does public means no privacy? Before answering to this question we can turn on the television and see lots of details about celebrities and public figures. The fact is that a reporter always tries to discover the private lives of famous people. Privacy is one of the most important things on earth. When one invades the privacy of another it causes a reaction of betrayal in the eyes of a person whose privacy is being invaded. But does it apply to the public figures? In my opinion I believe that public figures such as
