When was the last time not being accountable for something benefited you? Accountability is defined as the quality or state of being accountable. There are many things you can be accountable for such as people, equipment, or even just yourself. In the military, if you are responsible for an item or a person and bad things happen to them then bad things will happen to you. There is always one hundred percent accountability. Everything that is in the Army is being tracked and held accountable for by someone. Personnel is by far the most important thing to be accounted for. Loyalty to the constitution, loyalty to the army, but most importantly loyalty to our battles that stand left and right of us every day. If they can’t rely on our loyalty how our nation can rely on us to complete the mission every day. D stands for Duty. Duty to the county, duty to our comrades, duty to our nation and duty to the mission and all components to the mission that we need to fulfill, like showing up on time and abiding by the protocols set forth for us daily by placing the mission first. S stands for selfless service. Selfless service plays an important role in accountability for the Army because it states putting the needs of others and the army before your own. I stands for integrity. Integrity is important when it comes to being accountable because it is all about doing the right thing when no one else is watching. In or out of uniform you should always have the integrity to do the right thing. P stands for personal courage. It is truly what it takes to face your moral and physical fear and be able to do what is right no matter the situation and under any circumstance. Accountability is very important an as enlisted soldiers trying to strive to reach NCOs we failed to play the role as leaders.
