A young boy named Miguel sits on the couch of a stranger. He sits reminiscing about his life in Mexico. Just a few weeks ago, Miguel and his family took the drastic decision of immigrating to the United States. A decision made not because the family wanted to but because of necessity. The family was witnessing how prosperity in their home country was no longer an expectation or even a reasonable goal. With the family's hand forced, they took a long dangerous journey to the United States. It's been a few weeks and the family is trying to cope. The family doesn't know anyone or the language spoken. Stuck in a foreign state miles and miles from home they can only hope for the best. Will this foreign state known as America give them the opportunities they yearn for so much?

Over the last decade, the number of immigrants has increased tremendously growing from 331,000 to a whopping 409,000. An increase of about 78,000 people ( Britannica). Despite media coverage on the issue many people are blind to the true nature of the situation . Therefore it is important to understand the extent to which immigration affects us all.
Immigration to begin with can be defined as a person traveling from one country to another for various reasons. There are two main reasons however which create two distinct types of immigrants. Those immigrating for economical reasons and those immigrating because of danger to their lives. Although the spectrum for these two types of immigrants is very distinct, they are both of high importance and it is crucial to understand both of their struggles. Doing so will allow for a better understanding of what an immigration policy should and shouldn't
Immigration has been a topic for heated discussions for many years. However, no one has really ever looked into what immigration actually is or how hard it is for the people trying to immigrate. In the common reader we are given an insight to what immigration is, and the risks that follow.
Before lands were set up into fixed colonies, people were free to roam and sail as they pleased. However, this is not to say that discrimination did not exist, and some were killed when they entered into foreign borders. The same holds true today in the United States of America, not necessarily due to discrimination but due to the immigration laws that were put into practice in 1790, beginning with the Naturalization Act. While it is safe precaution to make sure who enters the country and what their motives are, many are being denied the access to the American dream. It is because of this that the U.S. must take a step back and reevaluate their immigration policies.
“The land of the free and the home of the brave” these are people's first thoughts when they think about coming to America. Many come to america to make their dreams a reality or for many reasons as to have a better life for their kids, or the generation that come. Like the colonial immigrants, the 1800s immigrants, and the modern immigrant. All of them have reasons why they came to america or persuade their dreams. How they look at america they all have a way of looking at america different but they all have a dream in america. What is really most people dream in America?
Immigration derives from the word migrate, and involves when a specific group moves from one place to another. Immigration is one of the most talked about subjects In America today. (Place quote about how many). There are many reasons why people choose to migrate. Some choose to migrate due to wanting a chance for a better life; some flee their countries due to wars, refugees. Some people believe that fleeing their countries for whatever reason to come to America for more opportunities. Yes this is true, but in some instances, the grass is not always greener on the other side. In this day and age, money is what makes the world go round. Most immigrants face a lot of economic hardship. Valid employment is not always an option
The United States is known as “the land of opportunities and hope” but it does not always offer what it portrays. Undocumented immigrants who come to the U.S. in search of “the American dream” have faced many injustices in this country, a country which claims to be free and fair. Undocumented immigrants are everywhere; however, not all immigrants are bad or trying to hurt others. In the United States, especially in California, Mexicans are the targeted group when it comes to politics and other important government issues. Mexicans are seen as invaders who are constantly killing and raping, but in reality this is not true. There are some Mexicans who kill and rape, yet there are also Mexicans who come to the U.S. to work and provide for their family.
America, the greatest country in the world. Beautiful, prosperous, and technologically advanced are all qualities that come to mind when a person thinks about the United States. But no matter how great a country may seem, there is always a problem gnawing at it, wearing it away. For the United states one of the main things eating through the greatness is illegal immigration, mainly across the Mexican border. Several proposals have been made to protect the Mexican border such as deportation of the current illegals, the creation of a wall, and increased security around the border. Although all of these may be valid points, I believe some would work better than others.
Immigration in America has changed a lot over the years. Back in the Plymouth plantation time sailors had trouble traveling because of seasickness and very high winds. In one ship a large group of sailors sets sail for Holland for a religious free place that would be in what they now call New England. After they had fair winds and weather for a season, they encountered some dangerous storms and winds that the ship crudely shake. The ship had some troubles from the winds and waves of water crashing onto the ship but made it through just fine.
Illegal Immigration is a huge problem, especially in the United States. Different people have different theories on how to fix this problem. Some on one side of the argument call for completely open borders which allows anyone to join and be a US citizen easily. However, the other side says we should keep the immigration laws similar to what they are and make it harder for people to become US citizens. Illegal Immigration is a complex political issue that will be very hard to solve. Undocumented people who don't have a Green Card or known as having an Alien Card make the US government lose billions of dollars a year is lost taxes because the people are working under the table and not recording their income.
There are many different ways people migrate to the U.S., and many views on it, but illegally should not be one of the ways. Some of the immigrants sneak past border patrol and forge identities for themselves or get in other ways that allow them to take minimum wage jobs. Other immigrants are refugees, the government granted asylum to. Then there are the anchor babies being born in the U.S. as citizens, to illegal immigrant parents these babies are legal United States citizens, unlike their parents. We cannot just simply separate them from their parents.
The government don’t want immigrants in the country due to the rising problem of illegal immigrants that contributes to a decrease in the number of job opportunities and tax evasion that leads to loss, countries must not grant visas to applicants who cannot furnish substantial proof of their return. “immigrants seem to be bent on undoing America”. This quote is how some people feel about immigrants trying to come America.
The United States population is mostly made up of immigrants today. Immigrants now and back then still struggle to fit in to America. Immigrants never had it easy when they came to The United States. In the 1800s and 1900s an abundance of immigrants came to America for a specific reason and didn’t know what America would be like. There are litany of reasons why immigrants came to the United States such as to get away from their country and better job opportunity, and faced hardships like not knowing english and not having enough money.
In 2010, the State of Arizona passed Senate Bill 1070 which was intended to create additional barriers for illegal immigrants crossing the border into the United States from Mexico. The bill required immigrants to carry their immigration papers at all times, forbid illegal immigrants from holding a job (employers could be punished), allowed arrests to be made if officials had probable cause for deportation, and required police officers to check the immigration status of anyone they detained. Before it went into effect, the federal government stepped in, claiming the law was unconstitutional. The Supreme Court sided with the federal government in Arizona v. United States, agreeing that all but the fourth provision are preempted by federal immigration
The first immigration police I would like to address if the idea that “It's just as easy for immigrants to enter the contrary legal today as it was for my ancestors.” This quote is very powerful and expresses the idea that it is just easy to enter the contrary in morderen time as it was in the past, but I find this to be false for example “the skills need in America today are drastically different from the skill need the past.”(Stier, ken). For example in the pasted the united States need people to build and expanded to keep allowing the US to grow and develop. Nowadays the skills need have changed drastically, we are not looking for everyday joe to working fast food restaurants. The US is looking for doctors and engineers to start diagnosing
Immigration in the United States has been long debated and never solved. Regardless of what is decided, there seems to always be a party who is not happy. With the recent election of the nation's next president, Donald Trump, the immigration debate has rekindled as a result of his radical immigration ideas. Today, there are an estimated 42.4 million immigrants living in the United States according to the Department of Homeland Security. This means that nearly 15% of the people currently living in the United States have immigrated here from another country in which they were born. Sure, fifteen percent doesn't seem like an overwhelming number to someone who is just simply looking at the numbers, especially if you point out that the United States
Over the course of time people have been leaving their native land to come to America to better themselves for whatever the reasons may be. Some come to seek freedom and some to find financial stability. Approximately eleven million unauthorized immigrants are living in the United States, and thirty-seven million legal immigrants in the U.S as well. Immigration is one of the most crucial importance to America. There are plenty of reasons for why immigration’s presence is futile, but America would rather focus on bad then good.
