Immigrants have always been a part of the United States and played a major role in building the foundation for the life in America, therefore, legal immigrants, should always be welcome granted that they come with good intentions. "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" is a saying that has been associated with the country of The United States of America since its founding. That saying has infused immigrants with the idea that upon reaching this holy land, their lives will drastically change for the better. A common biased opinion on immigration is that immigrants coming to the United States are taking American jobs. According to the Immigration Policy Center, “research indicates there is little connection between immigrant labor and unemployment rates of native-born workers.” The jobs that immigrants are taking are the low-budget jobs that Americans do not want. They not only get less pay, but also less benefits in comparison to American workers. Issues that people often find themselves arguing about with their friends, or something that people have a very strong presupposed belief of. But none more hotly debated or more querulous perhaps, than our immigration system. Very few issues have the magnitude and aptitude to tear an entire nation apart, and this is one of them. People say that coming to the United State would be a dream come true. I was born on September 21, 1998 in Thailand. I thought coming to America, my life will change to better rather than working so hard everyday and night at the farm to get just enough rice for the family. Even in the United State, my parent’s had to starve just so we can eat.

The United States of America has millions of illegal and legal immigrants more than people that born in the country. Our country has received many immigrants since 1600s with the pilgrims and continued in the time of industrialization. Many of those immigrants were searching religious freedom and better opportunities. But they faced racial discrimination, low pay rate, and didn’t have opportunities to find better jobs. Now in our times, people still immigrate illegal and legal in our country. They are people just like us and they need to be treated right and fair. The United States should help illegal immigrants to have the same and equal rights that citizens and shouldn’t be punished for where country they come from.

America is traditionally a country of immigrants. Very few people today have relatives who were Native Americans, many of them because of religious persecution, and others because of they were just looking to start a new life on the exciting untouched frontier. For instance, in Florida, the first arrivals were European, beginning with the Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon who explored the land in 1513, following French and Spanish settlement during the 16th century. From the past, America was seen as a country of opportunities. People from all over the world have moved here looking for better opportunities. There are a lot of reasons why immigrants should live in this country, but I would like to mention three of them.

There is a lingering feeling of not feeling like a child belongs. They are stuck in the invisible world between where their parents came from, in this specific case, Asia and where the child lives now. It can be difficult to be raised as an Asian American and learning both culture and traditions. Many Asian American kids end up deviating from the Asian culture and embracing the American culture. However, children of immigrants should embrace their own culture in order to keep traditions alive and be proud of who they are.

Illegal immigrants flooding into the United States is by far one of society's biggest problems today. Due to our lack of immigration laws, the immigrants our stealing welfare right out of legal citizen's hands. It's quite simple, without the laws that we need. The immigrants, coming from wherever they do, simply sneak in, have a child, and are automatically given money by the government to care for the child until it turns eighteen years old. The problem is this: In the U.S., there are so many homeless or helpless legal citizens that could use the money. Illegal citizens, who are not part of the country, who have not helped the economy, or had worked to help develop the United States each year are being given the money. It is good to be kind and giving to everyone, but wouldn't you think that citizens who have done all, if not more should be getting that money? All citizens, whether they are new to a country or not, should come in and become citizens the right way. The right way is to legally become a citizen.

No matter how strict the United States gets with here immigration policies, immigrants find a way in. Today there are over 42.4 million immigrants living in the U.S., 11.9 of which are undocumented (Soylu, Buchanan). Known for being the land of opportunity, the United States often sounds like the ideal location for migration when searching for a new life, with a new job. In fact, the U.S. was founded by colonist who migrated from Europe to the Americas (Dudek). However, nowadays, American is no longer so much of a "nation of immigrants", but a nation against immigrants. Generations down the line, people forget that everyone's family started out with one immigrant. This leads to inequity between citizens and immigrants, especially in the workplace.
