The Cold War mainly started because of the rivalry between the United States and the USSR. The Soviet Union didn't like how World War 2 ended, so they thought the Cold War should have been a thing. The Cold War included open conflict, global politics and much more. The world divides two enemies into two teams to fight. The two enemies are communism and capitalism. The war began on March 12, 1947, and ended on December 25, 1991. The Cold World lasted for 45 long years. At the end of the 45 long years, it ended with the Soviet Union being dissolved. Many chronic things happened during the Cold War, causing it to become more “cold”. Containment also played a role in the Cold War. Not only did capitalism and communism play a role, but containment did too. First, you should know what containment is. Containment was a geopolitical strategic foreign policy pursued by the United States. Containment not only tried to prevent the spread of communism, but was also a huge strategy in the Cold War. It was to prevent the expansion of the Soviet power and to ensure victory in any military engagement. Truman supported many anti-communist organizations, governments, and countries providing economic and military assistance. Containment of isolated possible spies to preserve the purity of non-communist and anti-communist governments. It also was the main reason for the division of Korea on the 38th parallel. The war's purpose was to contain communism and overall abolish it. Containment was the process and ideology that was used most importantly by the U.S. to ensure that communism didn’t spread. Overall, containment was the reason we fought the Cold War and also why the war was not gruesome gorilla warfare, but negotiation, strategy, and support.
