No war in American history not fought on American soil can claim to have as big an impact on America as a whole than the Vietnam War. The social and political divisions caused by the war changed America as a nation and especially changed those who fought in it. Despite the sacrifices of these veterans, both those who returned and those who did not, Americans on both sides forgot or even vilified those who fought, either as losers or as tokens of an unjust war. To remedy this problem through reconciliation and honor those who died in Vietnam, a group of veterans campaigned to build a national memorial in Washington, D.C. The Cold War started when Japan and Europe were defeated and the United States and Soviet Union wanted to take power. The US and the Soviet Union had different goals and ideologies. The US is democratic and capitalist and the Soviet Union was a dictatorship and communist. The Cold War was a competition between the US and the Soviet Union to determine who would be the main power. It was named the Cold War as the two nations never actually fought each other.

The Korean war is a conflict between North Korea and South Korea which started on June 25, 1950 until July 27, of 1953, although North Korea and South Korea still have conflicts today. Korea was split into two countries, North Korea and South Korea . This was because of Communists and Anti-Communists in Korea which prevented Korea from creating a consolidated government. Korea was split right in the 38th parallel, a separation similar to the yugoslavian separation. North Korea had attempted to take over the capital of South Korea, Seoul, but North Korea had claimed that South Korea was planning an attack on the North so North korea attacked them to overthrow their plan. The 46 year struggle known as the Cold War all started over a disagreement at Potsdam. Stalin refused to allow what the Allies wanted. They wanted to give free election to countries in easter Europe like Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria. All these countries became satellite rates controlled by the Soviet Union. This made Truman believe that Stalin was planning to conquer the world and that the former alliance was falling apart. This turned into a battle between Communism and Democracy. Throughout almost all of the Cold War the United States adopted a foreign policy called “containment”.The United States contained Communism in Berlin, Korea, and Cuba by not allowing the Soviet Union to gain anymore land or power.

After the Second World War, the imperialist countries were devastated with Germany being divided among the allied victors. Consequently, the United States and Russia were the most powerful countries in the world. From 1945 to 1991, democracy was represented by the United States and communism was represented by the Soviet Union. Russia aimed to conquer as many countries as possible to insure communist domination of the world. This rivalry was called the Cold War, where both countries competed for their type of government, but did not necessarily go to war with weapons. The United States spent a significant amount of time, effort, and resources in an attempt to stop the spread of communism in Europe and Asia. While America was not able to be completely successful in achieving its overall goal as easily or as quickly as desired, the country did a good job of contributing to the fight. In addition, it would be unfair to expect one nation to be able to halt such a large movement on its own. The United States put forth years of financial and military support to assist in working towards unbiased peace among nations with planned strategies chosen with the wellbeing of the majority of people in mind.

The Korean War was a defining part of the United States foreign policy in the Cold War Era and was a response to threats from the Soviet Union. The Korean War was a culmination of tensions between North and South Korea that had resulted from the influences the United States and the Soviet Union inculcated into the countries during their occupation. When the Korean War was initiated, by the invasion of South Korea by North Korea, the United States and their allies in the United Nations perceived the invasion as a bold communistic expansion effort that occurred without provocation. The Korean War begun far before North Korea had launched their first assault upon South Korea. Nearing of the end of the Second World War, the Korean Peninsula had been under Japanese control. Soon enough it was liberated by both American and Soviet forces, the Soviets occupying the country north of the 38th Parallel, and the Americans south of it. After the war, neither the Koreans, Soviets, nor the Americans could agree on the country's government. This resulted in the foundation of the Republic of Korea (ROK) in the south and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the north (Ohn Chang-Il, 23). The fact that neither the States nor the Soviets were willing to compromise on anything was a prime factor in the separation of the Korean Peninsula.

Korean War: In 1945, Japanese surrendered by the Soviet Union and Unites States and Second World War was ended. Also, Korea was liberated at August 15. Korea was divided into South and north, and US governed south and Soviet Union governed north. June 25, 1950, the North Korean invaded south and the war was outbreak. The war was intensified by intervention of The United States, China, and the Soviet Union. It became fight between the Democratic and the Communism. (876-878)

The Korean war memorial site located inside Cascade Park is made of smooth granite and stone that forms a broken circle affectionately referred to by the designer as "the circle of life" with a rifle tip buried in the ground with a helmet resting on the butt of the gun. The monument is also covered in 583 inscribed names of soldiers who were killed in action during the Korean War. Visitors will see a large map of Korea located on the ground of the Memorial. The map is divided into two parts by the "Circle of Life" element. The Demilitarized Zone shown on the map is what influenced the placing of the circle.

One of the major conflicts in the 20th century was the Cold War. One of the key events of the Cold War was the Korean War (1949-1953). Essentially, the Korean War was a conflict between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), and the Republic of Korea (ROK). However, the DPRK was backed by Stalin’s Communist regime. While the ROK, was backed by US and UN forces. The support that the divided Koreas received demonstrates that this war was the direct result of Cold War tensions between the USA and the USSR. Therefore making this war a proxy war between the two superpowers.

The Korean War occurred from 25 June 1950 to 27 July 1953 when armistice was signed. (Stokesbury) It was between Republic of Korea and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. United Nations were on the South Korea side and China and Soviet Union were at North Korea side. North Korea invaded South Korea after United States’ military evacuation. North Korea occupied most of South Korea, but after Incheon Landing, it turned the tide of the war. Finally, the war ended by declaring ceasefire and made Military Demarcation Line. The war was significant because it was the war between democratic and communist countries. It was also the time of Cold War when Soviet Union and United States were having political and diplomatic conflicts

The Korean War was an influential event that started in 1950 and caused a lot of controversy among Americans and Koreans. The war was caused by the US trying to preserve the Democratic side of Korea, the south side. The Koreans were not happy, however, and the Viet Kong and North Korean soldiers fought tooth and nail to get the Americans out of the country. There was eventually an end to the war of course but not without lots of casualties on both sides and a hostile environment around the border of the two countries.
