In the cold war it was the soviets against the west. Soviets wanted to make communism spread, but the west, which was capitalist, developed a policy called containment. According to The Geography of the Cold War: What was Containment, “containment was the idea that the Soviet Union and soviet communism should not be allowed to spread.” Three examples of containment are North Korea against South Korea, Truman Doctrine and the Marshall plan. Before I tell you about these examples let me give you some background knowledge. The Cold War was all about capitalism vs. communism, where the soviets were communist and the west was capitalist. From The Geography of the Cold War: What was Containment, “communism is a belief that private property should be replaced by community ownership.” Also from The Geography of the Cold War: What was Containment, “…private ownership economies of the United States and its allies.” One thing that started the Cold War was Winston Churchill’s speech, “Iron curtain.” According to The Geography of the Cold War: What Was Containment, “…had been drawn between the soviet-controlled countries in eastern Europe and the western democracies.” Churchill finally made a decision and that fired up the Cold War. …show more content…

North Korea first invaded South Korea in June 25, 1950. Soviets where supporting South Korea, and the United States where supporting South Korea. This battle was a fair fight with South Korea winning but something happened. According to document C, “In November of 1950, communist China enters the war and pushes the United States forces back into South Korea.” China only entered the war because they were communist, and wanted to turn South Korea communist. This showed containment because the United States of America helped South Korea when they were resisting communism. Another example of containment was the Truman
