Southern Arkansas University’s Department of Theatre ended its season with a show stopping production of the musical “Hairspray.” The production was directed and choreographed by Brandon Smith. The musical was directed by David De Seguirant.

Interaction skills are very important in becoming a cosmetologist, keeping a conversation going with a client will let them feel comfortable and help create a more positive environment, which leads to a better business. This skill will build relationships with not only clients but co workers too. Being friendly and open will help bring more customers in. Doing a great job on someone's hair and being friendly will will only help you out more in the end. When in cosmetology, there is mass of possibilities to do things different and to let your imagination take over. You will go outside of your comfort zone and learn how to do things that you may not have done before or will ever do again. That will create a really distinct and interesting feeling to work in that can be really fun. So, if being creative and making new styles, then, cosmetology is for you. Being a cosmetologist goes beyond just cutting hair in a salon.

A person in this career field definitely needs to be an outgoing person because this occupation requires being around a lot of people. They need to have customer service skills and be a polite and pleasant person. A cosmetologist needs to have good listening skills because when a client comes in they are going to have requests and needs that the stylist is going to need to meet. They want to be creative and keep up with the latest hair trends that their clients are going to want. A cosmetologist needs to be very organized and have time management skills. They have to keep track of schedules and make sure they can get through with a client on time to get started with the next one (“Summary”). A good life experience to have would be being able to actually do other’s hair and makeup and making sure you are always learning new styles. Most people care a lot about their appearance, and are willing to spend time and money to go get their hair or makeup done, especially for special occasions. That’s why there will always be a need for cosmetologists in mostly every area. Getting a general cosmetology license covers everything including doing hair, nails and makeup. Or, you can get licensed to be a nail technician or esthetician (¨Cosmetologist¨). Personally, I would rather get a general cosmetology license so I have the freedom to do whatever services I want or whatever services are in highest demand by client’s. I’ve also decided that someday in the future I would like to manage a salon, either corporate owned or my own business. For this I will have to go to college and get a degree in business administration along with my cosmetology license. I think being a cosmetologist is a good career for me because I see a lot of positives and very few negatives from the research I’ve done. Even if the education might be challenging, managing a salon will be a satisfying career for me because the labor market outlook is positive, the salary and hours are sustainable, and I will enjoy the challenging and diverse nature of the work and rewarding social interactions.

Introduction: Cosmetology is the career that I chose to do my report on. When I get done with high school I want to be a cosmetologist because I find it to be interesting and a fun job. Cosmetology is a very artistic career. Cosmetology is the study and application and the beauty treatment. Branches of specialty ranges anywhere between hairstyling, skin care, cosmetics, manicures/pedicures and electrology. A person that is employed in this career would cut, style, dye and wash their clients hair the way that the client wants it. Plus, they have the skills to do professional manicures and pedicures with a special design if that is what the client wants.

Being a hairstylist, it is all about the skills: The artistic skills, the communication skills, also, the skill to be patient and respectful. Some people have a difficult time trying to obtain all of these skills. Hairstylists have a tough job. No one really understands what the stylist goes through. The pressure to get things right and to make the client happy is a complicated situation.
