Four Pillars Of National Honor Society

We all know that the National Honor Society is focused on the four main points of character, service, scholarship, and last but not least leadership. I am asking that you take consideration of these four points in my very own life.

The four pillars of National Honor Society (NHS) include scholarship, service, leadership, and character. I have already received this application opportunity due to meeting the requirements of the scholarship portion of NHS, which requires a strong commitment to learning and putting effort towards achieving high grades in the classroom. I intend to benefit the remaining three pillars of service, leadership, and character through my willingness to work for others free of reward, initiative to lead my peers, and optimal decision making.

Being a part of National Honor Society means that I am held at a higher standard than most students. I am to uphold the four pillars of National Honor Society, which are service, scholarship, leadership, and character. All four aspects of NHS have been important in my life and have shaped me into who I am today. Being involved with and serving my community has given me a better understanding of the needs of a community. I have had the opportunities to help people, which brings me joy, and gives me a way to reach out to my surrounding area. Being a good scholar has meant the world to me all of my life and it has begun to pay off. I see myself excelling in areas of life that some struggle. National Honor Society is composed of four pillars: scholarship, service, leadership, and character. I believe that I have shown these four characteristic traits throughout my school years, however, I identify most with character. The character pillar is necessary for me to express the other traits of each pillar.

Many only see the National Honor Society as an organization that will look excellent on college applications, and although that may be true, the National Honor Society is not an organization that can be taken so lightly. The National Honor Society is so much more than a scholarship-granting organization, the NHS is an organization that helps develop the requisite for render service and the development of leadership and character. The growth and success of the NHS relies on not only its members, but also those outside of the organization. Its members can only do so much on their own. National Honors Society is represented by four different pillars, these are leadership, character, service and scholarship. To be a candidate for NHS you must exemplify these pillars in some shape or form during your high school career. I believe I demonstrate these four pillars in these examples that I have listed below.

Throughout my high school career I have demonstrated the four pillars that the National Honor Society is built upon: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

The reason that I am interested in becoming a member of the National Honor Society is because the National Honor Society represents all of the values that I find most important in my education and life. National Honor Society requires academic excellence throughout high school. At the beginning of my Freshman year, I set a goal to graduate with a 4.0 GPA. I have worked diligently to achieve and maintain this grade point average while taking several advanced classes. So far, I have taken three classes for college credit and plan to take multiple more during my senior year. I’m a smart, hardworking, determined, courageous, and generous individual. Unfortunately, during my 9th-grade year at Hyde Leadership Charter School, I didn’t display these characteristics. I faced challenges such as missing class time because I was in the Dean’s Area and serving detention. But I am a student who wants to grow and become a great leader. The four pillars of the National Honor Society create a unique balance for any student that follows them. Personally, I excel in scholarship because I truly enjoy going to school and intend to go many more years in the future. My college interests involve the honors college at the university I am attending as well as a pre-medical path; therefore, my education, or scholarship will be a vital part of my college experience. Out of the four characteristics of National Honor Society, I felt the most important is a character. It’s because it distinguishes how your behavior shows daily the way you carry yourself every day. Got to bat for your convictions about great and awful, be your best self, and oppose social weight to do the wrong thing for the right reason. Good characters show respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship in all their actions every day. “Reputation is the shadow. The character is the tree.” - Abraham Lincoln. The quote explains that character is something that does not change, something that stays with all you that which characterizes you. The first characteristic scholarship. Scholarship is best defined as the academic quality of a particular student. All National Honor Society members are required to maintain a 3.5 GPA. I have worked hard to maintain a 3.95 GPA, and I have received honor acknowledgement every semester since I started at Calvert Hall College High School.

The National Honor Society is one of the most rewarding achievements a high school student can receive. The name itself represents all the pillars of honor that one hopes to achieve in their life. To be a member of Gradus Honoris is a position many students, including myself, strive towards, however, it is more than an envious position. To be a member represents academic excellence and hard work. A member must be a role model to underclassmen, to show them all the positives of being a dedicated and respectful individual, as well as upholding a sense of integrity. When one goes through the stages of development, he can point to several key elements that aid the process; for example, bravery, determination, and curiosity. When it comes to my development, the four pillars of the National Honor Society – character, service, leadership, and scholarship – have done much to solidify my development into a more refined person.
