National Honors Society is represented by four different pillars, these are leadership, character, service and scholarship. To be a candidate for NHS you must exemplify these pillars in some shape or form during your high school career. I believe I demonstrate these four pillars in these examples that I have listed below. I have exemplified leadership in a couple different ways through out my high school career. One way of this is through leading my team members in cheerleading. I look out for my new team members, especially since they are learning a lot of new material. This can be stressful and difficult at times. I know this feeling since I was once brand new to the Mason Cheerleading Program and didn’t know any of the material. If I …show more content…
The first example of this would be I always try to be honest with everyone including myself. I think it’s important not to be dishonest because you lose people’s trust, and you become unreliable. This is not what I would consider a good quality in a person. Another example of my character; is being someone who everyone can rely on and come to when they need advice or help with school, family, friends or etc. This is a very important because its significant to be able to have someone you can rely on at all times. The last example of my character is having flexibility in my life. For example when I was needed to change my position on my team I did so with ease and being a team player. Theses are a few ways I have demonstrated character through out my high school …show more content…
Each trimester I always strive to get all A’s on my final report cards and keep my GPA above a 3.5. To help me maintain good grades when I’m having a difficult time learning something. I attend after school programs to help me understand that concept and raise my grades back to my standards. Even being busy with home life and sports I always make sure I get my homework completed and if needed test remakes in on time. Another way I exemplify scholarship is by helping my classmates. I help them when they are having a hard time understanding a concept in something I understand. This helps me make sure I have learned the material and also helps another student know the material and potentially raise their grades. These are a couple examples that show how I have illustrated scholarship during my high school
Lastly, I exhibit Scholarship with my love to learn. I love to learn about new topics and soaking up all available information. I also love going to school and filling my brain full of knowledge. I am a firm believer that you learn something new every day and this makes me excited. I am a hard worker, as exhibited by my grades, and all other academic success, and when it comes to my school work, I turn in my assignments, and when I do not understand the topic, I am not afraid to ask questions.
The National Honor Society is made up of four main pillars, which include: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Scholarship deals with one’s academic commitment to continuing to learn new things and not give up on education. Those with leadership make it their priority to help lead others and keep things under control and on track. Service involves one’s ability to provide, assist, or benefit others in need without expecting anything in return, for example, volunteering in a food packaging factory to provide food to the homeless and the hungry. Character is what defines and distinguishes one person from another, and shows the intentions and goals of a person.
The four pillars of the National Honors Society: Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service, define what it means to be a person that is dedicated to the betterment of our community. Scholarship refers to the dedication of academic study or achievement. Leadership is the act of providing guidance or direction. Character defines the moral qualities and reputation of an individual. Service refers to a helpful acts that contribute to the welfare of others. Although the four pillars of the National Honors Society have their distinctive meanings, leadership values the most importance.
Of the four pillars that the National Honor Society is built upon, character is the pillar that I believe I best exemplify. Character, defined by integrity, honesty, and kindness, guides my actions and decisions in both school and my personal life. Through my commitment to integrity and compassion, I aim to uphold the values that show good character in every aspect of my life, whether it's at school, on the swim team, or while serving the community. At school, I believe in showing compassion and empathy toward others. For instance, a new girl had recently joined the swim team and hardly knew anyone since she had just recently transferred from another school.
Before I joined the National Honor Society (NHS), my ideal characteristics for a successful student included earning straight A’s every semester, taking challenging courses, and, ultimately, ranking myself among the top students of my class. I was trapped in my own model student, exhausting myself with grades and incessant school work. It was an endless cycle. However, when I became a member of NHS, I was reborn. The Society’s four pillars—Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character—have gradually reshaped my definition of a successful student.
Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character are the four pillars of National Honor Society(NHS) and are all qualities that I posses. Ever since I was young I have looked up to those who were members of National Honor Society because I always believed that they were the true definition of an exceptional person. Being in National Honor Society has been what I have strived for through my middle and high school years. I am honored to be a candidate for this wonderful program and throughout this essay I hope you are able to learn more about me and why I am a good fit for National Honor Society.
The four pillars of the National Honor Society create a unique balance for any student that follows them. Personally, I excel in scholarship because I truly enjoy going to school and intend to go many more years in the future. My college interests involve the honors college at the university I am attending as well as a pre-medical path; therefore, my education, or scholarship will be a vital part of my college experience. In regards to the other three pillars of this Honor Society, service also adds balance to a student’s life. To serve others brings one a sense of integrity and an amazing feeling of generosity. Through the National Honor Society, I have learned many extraordinary ways that I can help my community whether it is something small
Character is defined as what distinguishes one person from another and it is the product of constant striving to make the right choices every day. I identify with this pillar the most because I try really hard to be different from people in my school and neighborhood. For instance, many of my peers choose to do unproductive things, such as playing video games or watching hours of TV for hours on end, rather than doing their homework assignments. This is just a waste of time because we, as students, have a limited amount of time to complete each assignment before going to sleep and returning to school to hand it the assignment. I cannot see myself doing these things, even during my
The National Honor Society (NHS) is based off of four pillars: Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. In order to be an ideal member of NHS, one must demonstrate these qualities efficiently at all times. How do I exhibit these four pillars? I do so by practicing each one on a daily basis and by improving them every single minute. My willpower, consideration of others, and goal of being the best all exemplify my ability to perform the four pillars. Each one is dealt with differently in my life.
To some people, leadership means to lead a group of people but in cheerleading, and to me, it is so much more. In the community, on the sidelines, and even in school, you are representing the team and the school you cheer for along with your reputation. You have to work the hardest, encourage your team, always keep the smile going and stay positive. Even at or not at practice or a sporting event you have to think of the team and how your actions will rely on the team and affect the team, everyone relies on the leader.
Throughout my high school career I have demonstrated the four pillars that the National Honor Society is built upon: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
Being inducted into National Honors Society requires a student to demonstrate all of the four qualities many of our role models in the present and in the past have possessed, which include: scholarship, service, leadership and character. As I’m considered a candidate for this group, I already possess the quality of scholarship and it is my duty in this paper to show that I hold the other three important attributes needed to qualify for this institution.
Character is not a personality someone claims they have. Character is how people see you. If you flaunt and boast saying you have character there is is no consistency neither direction. True character is not going around saying or boasting you character, but by living it. The best way to be an example is to live one and that will speak for itself. True character is having integrity and not just when others are watching but when you are alone; are you still going to behave the same way. Nelson Mandela and Socrates both exhibited true character. Whether to take a stand for what they believe or to go against the status quo of society even if it meant death through their beliefs, values, and actions.
Being a part of National Honor Society means that I am held at a higher standard than most students. I am to uphold the four pillars of National Honor Society, which are service, scholarship, leadership, and character. All four aspects of NHS have been important in my life and have shaped me into who I am today. Being involved with and serving my community has given me a better understanding of the needs of a community. I have had the opportunities to help people, which brings me joy, and gives me a way to reach out to my surrounding area. Being a good scholar has meant the world to me all of my life and it has begun to pay off. I see myself excelling in areas of life that some struggle. It has also helped me get into good colleges and have
Character- I give honest opinions and I respect other people’s ideas even though I may think
