I am surrounded by my family and they are all smiling and so happy that I became a part of our family. Adoption is a beautiful thing. Giving a child a family means giving them hope, love, and belonging. Adoption not only affects the child that is being adopted, but it affects every member of the family. When I was adopted, I gained parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. My life and their lives were changed forever and I believe we were changed in a positive way. The environment of our family is where we get to understand our religion, values, culture, and society; and then we utilize all those attributes while coping with the outside world. My family is important because it provides love, support, and a framework of values to each member of my family. One of the greatest advantages of having a family is that you may have lots of friends or relations, but you will always just have one family that will stay with you in any situation. Your family, your parents and siblings, are the ones that will stick with you in your hard and difficult times and they will celebrate with you during your achievements and happy times. My family and I teach other, serve one another and share life’s joys and sorrows. We work together to overcome struggles and to provide happiness to each one of us. My home provides me a safe place to learn and to gain personal
Foster Care and Adoption are the most multi-faceted areas of child welfare. Foster care consists of placing children outside of the custody of their parents or legal guardians. This out-of-home placement can be temporary or long-term. Adoption on the other hand, consists of the legal and permanent process that establishes a parent/child relationship between individuals not related biologically (Downs, Moore, & McFadden, 2009). These two areas of child welfare are constantly evolving and the decisions made on a child’s behalf can affect many areas of their biological, spiritual, social, and emotional wellbeing.
In todays’ society many Americans never think about our foster care system. Foster care is when a child is temporarily placed with another family. This child may have been abused, neglected, or may be a child who is dependent and can survive on their own but needs a place to stay. Normally the child parents are sick, alcohol or drug abusers, or may even be homeless themselves. We have forgotten about the thousands of children who are without families and living in foster homes. Many do not even know how foster care came about. A few of the earliest documentation of foster care can be found in the Old Testament. The Christian church put children into homes with widowers and then paid them using collection from the church
Blog Post #1: Introduction to the Foster Care System What is the foster care system? The foster care system has been put in place to protect children. The system takes children that need to be removed from an abusive or dangerous situation and place them with a licensed foster home. Children can also be placed in a foster care home if they have recently lost their parents, close relatives are not able to care for them.
Some awful things we hear about the foster care system makes the system seem like it is awful, but in reality the system was created to help the foster youth. Some examples would be that the system does not help after a child has entered into a foster home, but the system pays a monthly supplement to the foster parents to pay for clothes and medical expenses. Despite the common belief that foster care is an awful system, but in actuality there are programs within the the foster care system that help youth and the main goal is to reunite the foster children with their biological parents.
Raising children is one of the most important responsibilities in any society. Today, working parents have many options, but what about those children who have neither a mother nor father? What about those children who come from broken and abusive homes? In such cases there are often few choices. Parentless children may be placed in orphanages or in foster homes. Ideally, foster care offers children more personalized attention than would normally be available at a public or private situation. However, orphanage care is notoriously uneven. While some children are indeed in loving homes, others find themselves neglected or
from the state, leading to revision of the state agency policies and regulations and also the initiation of the new program to create extra support for child welfare.
An adult’s psychological development depends on one’s childhood experiences with adults and their capability of providing nurturance, protection, trust, and security to the developing child. Children with current and previous ties to the foster care system were found to have behavioral, emotional, and social well-being issues. The United States averages more than 400,000 children in foster care during the year. Amongst these 400,000 children, as many as 50% have developmental disorders or psychiatric diagnoses (Hutchinson). Children placed within the foster care system are more likely to be found to have mental health issues due to the inadequacy

Coming to this topic wasn't an easy feature, since I knew next to nothing about it. But I've always been interested in social services and finding out ways I could help out improve the condition of people. So when I had to narrow down my ideas to an specific topic I knew foster care was the answer. When your looking at a problem the best way to find a solution is to look at its root, look at it when it is small, look at it when it is young. I looked at foster care because I know that if you help someone at a young age, then that impacts how they grow up to be and it makes them a much better person.
One of this disadvantages of foster care, is there is an instability in the system. At times social workers are unaware that the placement of the child was ruled in court for the return of the child to their parents. Another disadvantage is that the transitory environment of the foster placements has been a problematic component in the child welfare system (Crosson-Tower, 2014, p. 316). Some children already experience attachment issues prior to removal from their home. These issues will further advance and creating more problems with the child. Since foster care is a temporary environment for the child, children may adjust to this temporary placement only to be removed and either return home or be placed with another temporary family. These transitions effect the child’s behaviors and emotions. The goal is to provide the child permanency. However, the foster care system is not meant to
The numbers of children in foster care continue to increase annually with minimal attempts to intercept the causes of the escalation. Children are generally placed into foster care as a result of parental abuse or neglect; however, there are many racial inconsistencies circulating general foster care involvement. In the year of 2014, the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System reported a total of 415,129 children in the foster care system. Depending on their situation, children in the system are in need of some sort of home, whether that be temporary or permanent. When experiencing this type of shift in their lives, many children tend to act out. Foster care in the United States is a
There are common ordeals and situations that can trouble a family emotionally, physically, and psychologically. Adoption is one situation a family must encounter when a child is born without a proper system of support to sustain life after birth. The causes for a family to make a heartfelt decision to place a child for adoption can have dramatic effects on the birth parents, adoptive parents, and child (Adoptee), even if the decision is meant for the best.
