How to Choose the Right Rod for Bass Fishing
There are many Bass Fisherman that have no rhyme or reason as to what rod they are matching up to their lure. Many anglers just purchase a rod that look goods and go with it. An angler is a fisherman who uses the fishing technique of angling. If you are one of those anglers, then you’re probably asking yourself why so many fish are being coming off. The answers simple. The rods length and or power is probably not logically matched up with the recommended lure. I’m going to give anglers a handful of tips that will help them have a better understanding on what rod to choose. The first step is picking out a new rod. There are hundreds of brands to choose from, it just depends on what style of

So, it just depends on what type of fishing the angler is wanting to do. For example, if a fisherman was to throw a topwater and was trying to cast under a tree that was hard to get to, they would throw a 6- to- 6 ½ foot rod because they need the accuracy to get under that piece of structure. According to Mark Lassagne, “A 6- to 6 ½-foot rod is more accurate, so you have to adjust the rod length to the type of fishing you do” (Lasssagne). If a fisherman was deep cranking out in open water, they would want to use a 7 ½-to 8-foot rod so they can make those longer casts. What if an angler was in a situation where he needed some distance, but at the same time he needed to be accurate? I would use a 7-foot rod because not only are you getting a rod that’s able to have distance, but you have a rod that going to give some accuracy as well. Once the fisherman have figured out the length that fits your needs, it’s now time to figure out the strength of the pole. The strength of the rod is going to be able to help identify the weight of the lure. For a better understanding on what the strength of the fishing pole is, it’s how much force is being applied to make the rod bend. According to Justin Hoffman, the overall strength of the rod is what describes the power rating (Hoffman). The author states clearly so it makes sense to inexperienced anglers. There are three main types of powers: Medium, Medium-Heavy, and Heavy. If you were to go more into detail there is also extra
It's the day before the big Lake Fork bass tournament. John Noah is getting prepared. He has already cleaned up his boat and is rigging up a swimbait on his favorite carrot stick rod with his favorite lews reel on it. Next John got all his tackle together, he had to take his time choosing lures because of the certain depths in the lake. He got some topwaters for shallow water, some deep diving crank baits for deeper water, and some swimbaits and spinnerbaits for medium depth. Then he double checked everything and made sure it was all in the right place.
Over the last few years, the rivers edge is getting more & more crowded, as fishing pressure increases so does the amount of lures the fish will see in a day. Trying new methods of fishing can sometimes prove to be rewarding.
The largest striped bass that has ever been caught on record has been weighed in at a staggering 88lbs! These fish have become so common that they are now on the list of sport fish, which anglers flock from all over the world, just to take part in competitions which take place annually. There are wide collections of fishing techniques which anglers use in order to catch one of these striped bass. The most common method for fishing these striped bass is either by trolling or
Luckily, it's a challenge that those who use this lure won't face. It comes to you, ready to fish, right out of the package. It's rigged by an experienced staff before it ever leaves. A sturdy number eight, stainless steel double crimped hook, holds on to the fish once it bites. Stainless steel is strong, and durable. It can stand up to saltwater use. This lure also features a 200 pound mono, and a six foot leader.
Most experienced anglers will tell you the same thing, the best of most fishing is done is the early part of the year. This is the same for Walleye. They tend to like deeper murky waters for the remainder of the year (non-spring season such as July-Oct). In general they feed when its dark cloudy and murky. If it’s a bright sunny day they will not be anywhere near the surface and may not be even in the mood for biting your bait. In the spring season you are best to use a jig and minnow combo, working it with a slow pace across the bottom.
There are some common techniques that people use. One of them is putting a night crawler on a spinner and trolling an area. They also do it the same way with minnows. There are many other techniques but these are the most common ones. Other techniques to choose from are the use of crank bait, jigging, suspended trolling, windblown shore line, and casting. One of the better ways to fish is to try a few techniques and use the one that works the best. It also depends on the time of year, weather, and moods of the fish.
Based on the time of year, there are many techniques used to catch a bass. The most common and favorite among most is the jig and trailer used year round, accompanied by a pitch cast. These movements alone are beautiful in their simplicity. Some who have mastered the pitch cast put a jig and trailer in an area the size of saucer from 50-60 feet away with little to no splash. The pitch involves a slight sway backwards, then a smooth step forward as you use your wrist to swing the tip of the rod forward toward your target. You release the bait from your hand at the precise moment and the bait will glide slowly just barely above the surface of the water to enter quietly at the spot that was being pitched
Lure choices can be broken down even further by utilizing my much written about principle of "search & finesse". Basically, I think all lures will fall into one of these two categories. Is it a fast moving, run & gun search lure; best used to cover lots of water and locate a hot, unpressured fish? Or does the lure require a slower retrieve, a twitch, jerk, or some other rod manipulation technique; better suited for a slow approach on a known hotspot, and a musky that has already seen plenty of baits? With this in mind you need to ask yourself questions 3 & 4:
Another good way is to join an amateur fishing club and mix with the more experienced anglers. You will be able to learn a lot from your association with experienced fishermen. You will also be amazed at the tricks up their sleeve when it comes to making Bass lures indigenously. The best lure for bass is made from feathers and brightly colored.
Once you have the main body of the stick, the next step is to choose the type of stringing that you want to have. There are two choices that you can pick from, traditional or mesh. Their is a third “category” but i am disincluding that because it is a cross between the two and is very uncommon and hard to make correctly.
Some people consider bass fishing a sport, but for most fishermen it’s a lifestyle. People have been bass fishing since the beginning of time for different reasons. Bass fishing has evolved over the years from using a sapling and some string to the high tech rod and reel technology, as well as sonar fish-finders. For modern day fisherman fishing is a lifestyle that may require a wealth of money depending on what kind of bass fishing someone wants to do. People will less wealth just fish from the bank, but for the luckier individuals that are able to own a boat, fishing is easier, and more fun. Since the beginning of time people have been using real worms for bait, but now with the advancement of technology you can use baits that have a
Ever since I was a kid I have enjoyed fishing. Fishing relaxes my mind and allows me to get away from the stress of the real world. From the cool breeze around the lake to the fishes nibbling away at the bait, it’s all just very relaxing. There was one day where I caught more fish than I had ever caught before. The entire day had been going my way. My boss called me and gave me the day off and that alone is a good way to start your day. After getting the day off I was able to get a few extra hours of sleep. Being able to sleep in allowed me to get the some rest that I had not been able to get for a few weeks. After getting my well-deserved rest I decided to go to the pet store to get some fish bait. Fishing was not my original plan for that day but since I was able to get the day off and I didn’t have any other plans I was able to plan to do one of my favorite things.
Fishing to some people may just be fishing. But fishing to the people who have read A River Runs through It some time in their life, is a gift. Whether fishermen use bait, worms, or George's flies it is that much sweeter to catch some trout with a brother under one arm and a father on the other.
Fishing has been around a long time and has been evolving over the years. In fact, the first known fishermen were from the Stone Age. They used materials that were available to them to catch fish and put food on the table for their families. Succeeding the Stone Age however, fishing has slowly begun to transform into more of a sport than a method of providing food. National Geographic states, “It wasn't until the 15th century that fishing began its evolution into a sport. Previously, fishing was simply a means for survival.” Fishing has changed so immensely that it has become a competitive sport. Fishermen all over the world angle competitively against each other in huge tournaments for a living. These professional fishermen are awarded millions of dollars to angle out of expensive boats that their sponsors pays for.
It does matter what kind of line and real you use for fishing. If you're fishing with a closed face reel than you want to have a certain line lb limit. The reason for the lb limit for line is because if you have a 14lb real line maximum and get 20lb fishing line than the reel is going to get tangled up. I prefer the open cast reel because of its strength and the line doesn't get tangled as much as a closed face reel does. I prefer to use 60lb threaded spiderwire fishing line but you might have your own opinion for line that you prefer to use.
