Fishing is an activity I have enjoyed doing ever since I was a little kid. In fact, one of my first fishing voyages was with my grandpa when I was about eight years old. He was an avid fisherman who went fishing almost every day and knew everything there was to know about fishing. Grandpa got me hooked on fishing. After Grandpa died, my dad picked up where Grandpa left off. We had a pontoon, and Dad took my brothers and me fishing whenever we had the chance. To this day, I still love fishing just as much as I had on my first fishing trip with my grandpa. Many people enjoy hobbies that are relaxing and peaceful, and others prefer exhilarating activities that never have a dull moment. I enjoy fishing because it has some of both. …show more content…
The excitement begins to rise as the first cast draws nearer. The motor is prepared for take-off and the key is placed in the ignition. The engine turns over and the huge motor roars. The sleek boat accelerates rapidly and speeds toward the first fishing spot of the day. In a matter of minutes, the powerful boat glides into the fishing spot. The anticipation of catching a fish becomes almost unbearable. The fishing poles are grabbed quickly out of the rod lockers, and lures are tied onto the end of the fishing line. Moments later, the sound of a lure splashing into the water can be heard from the boat. The real adventure has just begun. Fishing has been around a long time and has been evolving over the years. In fact, the first known fishermen were from the Stone Age. They used materials that were available to them to catch fish and put food on the table for their families. Succeeding the Stone Age however, fishing has slowly begun to transform into more of a sport than a method of providing food. National Geographic states, “It wasn't until the 15th century that fishing began its evolution into a sport. Previously, fishing was simply a means for survival.” Fishing has changed so immensely that it has become a competitive sport. Fishermen all over the world angle competitively against each other in huge tournaments for a living. These professional fishermen are awarded millions of dollars to angle out of expensive boats that their sponsors pays for.
Fishing to some people may just be fishing. But fishing to the people who have read A River Runs through It some time in their life, is a gift. Whether fishermen use bait, worms, or George's flies it is that much sweeter to catch some trout with a brother under one arm and a father on the other.
Going to the lake to fish is a great way to start your day. It is so peaceful out there, but some days it is not because of bass fishing has tournaments and it can be really stressful. Bass fishing is a popular sport, but some things can be controversial.
According to Larsen Larry, fishermen need to “[take] note of a wide range of variables such as weather conditions, cover, structure, predominant forage, water levels and the time of year.” This quote shows all the things elements fisherman need to know before they fish for bass. The more the fishermen know about bass fishing, the more bites they will get. To become better fishermen, people need to learn what to use on certain conditions and time of year, know what lure to use and where to throw it, and how to adjust lures, so they can get more fish to bite their lures.
Throughout the day we enjoyed catching countless fish with our petite, freshwater lures, yet the surrounding fishermen never modified their methods of fishing so they also could experience the same enjoyment. They patiently waited while a rod, as thick as a broomstick and as long as a car, sat in front of them, bobbing with the current. Somewhere out in the ocean was their rig, a huge, crippled baitfish swimming around in little circles, struggling, just calling for some hungry beast to engulf it. Those fishermen never caught much, but when they did it was always a monstrosity, twenty pounds or more. Word had it that just a week earlier a man had even caught a one
In mcleod's short story, the father is forcefully pushed into the business of fishing in order to follow tradition, even though he pictured something bigger, like education, but the mother did not want anything to do with that. “At times, although she was not overly religious, she would bring God to bolster her arguments, saying, "In the next world God will see to those who waste their lives reading useless books when they should be about their work." Or without theological aid, "I would like to know how books help anyone to live a life." Clearly, the father did not appreciate the art of fishing, but because of family expectation he had no other choice but adapt to the profession of fishing. In a sense the trade of fishing had him by the throat as said in text, “ There was not much left of my father, physically, as he lay there with the brass chains on his wrists and the seaweed in his hair,” metaphorically saying that fishing was something bound to him and was al that he did in his life, so he had no other choice but to take fishing t the grave. In Alistair's Mcleod’s other short story also the art of fishing was all he knew, The Return, The narrator’s grandfather in “The Vastness of the Dark” says of the coal mining life: “Once you start, it takes a hold
When I come it fishing, let’s just say I am hooked like a large mouth bass is hooked to my line. Ever since I was a boy and my dad took me and my brother fishing, I could never get enough of it. Every time I would come home from school, I would ask my dad “when are we going fishing” and he would always say “boy there more than just fishing” but being a young boy fishing was the only thing I would want to do. The older I got, the worse I got about fishing, I would always want the new rod or gear that just came. I have been to fishing shows and watch fishing on the TV and I always wanted to be just like the man I show be able to catch the big trophy winners.
Fly Fishing The act of fishing is to catch fish either for food or sport. There are various types of fishing; one of those types being fly fishing. Fly fishing dates further back to the second century, and is popular in modern day. The sport requires specific equipment including a fly rod, reel, and flies.
Purpose of fishing. Do you know what the purpose of fishing is? There are many reasons for fishing, some people fish for a living, like commercial fishermen the people that supply the fish at the store. Many people may have to fish to have something to eat, in many other countries people have to catch what they eat.
The early morning breeze and feeling of nature that surround when I’m out on the water fishing is something I’m passionate for, and makes me who I am. It’s as though life around me stops and my only focus is trying to catch a fish. It’s something I could do all day and often do, and something I love to do with my friends, family, and even on my own. Fishing has affected me as a person. It requires patience because there are times when you might have to wait hours before your first bite. Along with patience comes determination, which is important because there are thousands of different ways to catch a fish. On one day a certain technique might work but on a different day I’ll have to look through my repertoire and figure out what is working
Many people consider fishing is something for fun but now it has grown to much more. The muskie at one point was very low in population because the sportsman
So I started filling up bags with the bait, which is sardines and pellets covered in fish oil. Later on in the day it started getting rough on the water and he told me to go up on the engine hatch to throw pots off. The rail only when up to my knees so I was kind of scared to step up there and throw them, but it had to be done. Remembering that my grandpa told me to “Not to fear the water, be confident, but always respect it” because the weather can turn in an instant. So I grabbed the buoy then tossed it over, grabbed the fifty pound anchor and as JJ says “let it fly” so I did just that.
We go fishing most of the time which is awesome. But some people think it is boring. Some times we have completions to see who can catch the most fish. It is usually cat fish for me. But the bait that we have to use is live minnows so we put are minnow catcher out in the lake right when we get there.
The main thing I could say I have learned fishing is patience. Some days when the fishing gets slow you could be sitting there for 15 minutes before you feel something other than the bait swimming. Although that is usually when the big bites happen. Those bigger fish usually scare the smaller fish off, so all you feel is the bait slowly swimming. Then all the sudden it just goes nuts you can literally feel it trying to get away, then everything stops. The line slowly starts to tighten, I usually let some line out as soon as it gets tight again I set the hook. When I’m in the fishing zone nothing else matters, it does not matter what time it is, or who is calling me or texting me. The only thing that matters at that point is that next bite. Some days Dad and I have been out on the water we will get in a school of fish feeding and end up a mile away from the boat at almost dark. Those days it is always the little things dad reminds me to do, like dragging my feet, or keeping the bait bucket low when dumping out the water to get a new minnow. There has been so many times Dad and I got caught
Fishing can be productive whenever of day. In any case, the agreement among diehard wharf fishers is that the rising tide is surely the best if you can pick and pick when you angle. It is recreational, fun, unwinding and offers the advantage of giving a nourishment source. Fishing at extensive
