Some people consider bass fishing a sport, but for most fishermen it’s a lifestyle. People have been bass fishing since the beginning of time for different reasons. Bass fishing has evolved over the years from using a sapling and some string to the high tech rod and reel technology, as well as sonar fish-finders. For modern day fisherman fishing is a lifestyle that may require a wealth of money depending on what kind of bass fishing someone wants to do. People will less wealth just fish from the bank, but for the luckier individuals that are able to own a boat, fishing is easier, and more fun. Sharp hooks are a necessity to every fisherman’s tackle box, and can be used over unless the hook is lost, or broken.
` Fishing rods, for the most part, stayed the same for a long time. They were short, not more than a few feet long. Later the Romans made a jointed rod. The jointed rod made fishing easier, because it had 2 parts that could be put together. It was also longer and sturdier then just one long stick, because it could bend and possibly break causing the fisherman time, frustration, and money for a new rod. Around the 17th century a breakthrough in bass fishing came about. “About this time some unknown angler attached a wire loop or ring at the tip end of the rod, which allowed a running line, useful for both casting and playing a hooked fish. Barker in 1667 mentions a salmon-fishing line of 26 yards. What was obviously needed was a means of taking up and holding such lengths and this led to the invention of the reel. In the 20th century, rods became shorter and lighter without sacrificing strength. Split bamboo was largely replaced by fiber glass and finally by carbon fiber as rod material.
