Electrostatic Precipitators
Electrostatic precipitators are machines designed to reduce pollution in industrial applications. Typically fitted to the stacks of factories and power stations, electrostatic precipitators are designed to filter out dust particles from exhaust gases produced by industrial work. 99.9% of the dust particulates is captured by the precipitator, reducing the amount of dirty air passing into the atmosphere. (“Introduction to Precipitators”, 2oo7) Air pollution is a major problem in Hong Kong and across the globe. Power stations generate tonnes of pollution every year, deteriorating the air quality of the city. The waste they create is filled with dust and particulates, which can be detrimental to the

This can be prevented by the use of electrostatic precipitators. Once air particulates have been removed, a significant part of the risk of damage to people have been removed as well. As stated in the quote above, one hundred thousand lives in Europe are lost annually due to ailments and illnesses caused by or complicated by particulates. Using electrostatic precipitators prevent more deaths from taking place.
Particulates and air pollution are also very harmful to the environment. Excessive air pollution and emissions of gases such as sulphur dioxide can cause acid rain, which acidifies the soil, rendering it unsuitable for growth of crops and greenery. Much of the harmful gases come from manmade sources, such as power plants, factories and vehicles. Particulates also a cause of smog, which can cause plenty of ill effects. Exposure to the ozone, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide contained in the smog can cause inflamed lung passages and pain while inhaling. Cleaner air can help a city economically. In recent years, many expatriates have returned to their country of origin due to the deteriorating quality of the air in Hong Kong, reducing the skilled workforce available in the city. In 2005, US$300 million was lost due to medical bills and lost productivity caused by the bad air pollution. Prospective new hires are even turning down job offers because of
Air pollution is basically when has become a problem in China. It has caused problems to ones health. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, such fine particles can cause asthma, bronchitis, and acute and chronic respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath and painful breathing, and may also lead to premature death. China does not go a day without one dying fro air pollution. Last year 7 million people die annually because of exposure to polluted air (The World health Organization). China's air pollution has triggered ones asthma. It has also cause ones to develop lung cancer, which could be very deadly.
Air pollution is a big problem in our world today because it affects our lives on earth as well as animals and plants. Breathing polluted air can make you very sick it can cause your eyes and nose to burn. It can irritate your throat and even make your breathing difficult. Air pollution is a big environmental problem because it is affecting our crops, trees, wildlife, and lakes/oceans. Pollution is harming fish and other aquatic life in those bodies of water.
Air pollution is when there is a presence in the air of a substance that has harmful or poisonous effects. There is air pollution almost everywhere in the world. This is due to industrialization. The world today depends on things that emit hazardous fumes and other hazardous pollutants in the air. Air pollution that is hazardous or toxic can have health risks. Some of these risks range from skin rash, cough and headache to cancer, nervous system damage and birth defects. There are no positive effects of air pollution. Air pollution is also in the form of acid rain. Acid rain pours wherever it’s ready. Acid rain destroys plants, harms animals, fish and other wildlife. Humans aren’t the only ones affected by air pollution everything is affected.
Over the past decade, particulate matter (PM) is increasing the air pollution at an exceeding
Air pollution is the dispersion of particulates, biological molecules, or other harmful materials into the atmosphere, causing diseases, allergies and death to humans, damage to other living organisms such as animals and food crops or the natural or built environments (Brunekreef & Holgate, 2002; Nowak, Crane, & Stevens, 2006). Polluted air directly or indirectly may cause or be attributed to an increase in fatality or serious unwellness and decline humans state of health (Kampa & Castanas, 2008). For example, in Canada, the Ontario Medical Association has attributed 9500 premature deaths per year and evaluates increased costs of health care ($506.64 M) and missed productivity ($374.18) as a result of air pollution (Rowe, 2011). Thus, employment
Air pollution could be very harmful to us as humans, it could effect us and also it
Poor air quality is associated with some health issues from the short-term problems to severe
Air pollution, together with littering, are causing many problems in our large, industrial citties today
Air pollution causes great damage to the environment. These damages include acid rain, eutrophication, haze, ozone depletion, global climate change, etc. "Acid rain is precipitation containing harmful amounts of nitric and sulfuric acids."Acid
Another big problem in polluting places and things is air pollution which can make air foggy, unbreathable, and toxic. According to “34 Facts about Pollution”, the text states breathing the air in Mumbai, India, for just one day is equivalent to smoking 100 cigarettes. One of the things that can cause air pollution is releasing factory fuels and fossil fuels into the air. We also cause it from burning certain things like plastic, chemicals, and other
Starting in the year 2004, the air pollution has reached an alarming level in the city o Toronto. Dr Barbara Yaffe, the acting medical officer of health of Toronto Public health, has released a report in July 2004 saying that the “air pollution [in the city] has contributed to over 1700 premature deaths and 6000 hospitalization admission in Toronto each year” (Yaffe, 2004, p.i). According to this report, pollutants such as ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, and carbon monoxide have increased within the air of the city; these pollutants are tiny particles that are 2.5 micron in diameter or less and can affect people’s respiratory system and cause cardiovascular and respiratory problems such as “asthma, bronchitis in children, adult chronic bronchitis, and heart problem” (TPH, 2007, figure 1). Although it
Particulate matter removal from the industrial flue gas sources is one of the biggest challenges of the modern industrialized period. Particulate matter is a mixture of both solid and liquid that is suspended in air and is normally emitted into the air by the direct source of emission [1]. Particulate matter is of various sizes but PM10 and PM2.5 are commonly used to explain the PM concentration in the air and is normally required to be reported as an air pollution control standard. Particulate matters (PM) causes various health-related problems if their level is not controlled in the air. In a joint report, prepared jointly by European Centre for Environment and Health and WHO [1], PM matter especially smaller PM2.5 causes serious health risks and as a result, it is noticed that the life expectancy in 25 European countries has decreased about 8.6 months. There are variety of equipment used to control the particulate matter in the emission sources such as settling chambers, wet scrubber, electrostatic precipitator, filters and cyclone separators. Cyclone separators are most widely used to remove the particulate matter from the pollution source because of their low capital and operating cost, and simplicity in operation, however, their low efficiency is one of the major challenges.
You can’t escape from it. Everybody has to breath, and when air isn’t clean you health is affected. Air pollution is problem of all of us. You might think that you are healthy because you eat, and do only healthy things, so you cannot be sick, or get cancer, allergies or even die. Everybody is affected by air pollution.
and asthma. It is a problem for older people and animals. Pollution is caused by burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil, gas, and gasoline used for electricity and to power our vehicles. Some countries have plans to tighten air pollution, like China has a 5 year plan to radically tighten air pollution targets.
Understanding that air pollution is a common problem is the first step to combating it. It is present in all countries, especially in China. Smog is a specific type of air pollution that is a crucial issue in China. It is crucial because it can make many people fatally ill. According to Lelieveld(2015), a writer discussing the issues of air pollution, Air pollution brings various types of illness that can eventually be fatal. For example, in
