Whether or not one believes it is positive or negative, it is clear that the current president has displayed ruthless ambition in his career. My collage shows some of the examples of the billions of dollars Trump has as well as his television appearances. It also shows some examples of the consequences the country is facing with such an inexperienced president. Someone like Donald trump who is born into money is almost promised it as an adult. It’s as if him being a successful businessman was prophesied. Much like Macbeth, when something is hypothesized, it seems more logical to do whatever you can to make something come true, with no regard to consequences. Being ambitious is not a negative trait, it leads to a determination to grow and better
President Donald Trump has only been in office for a few months, but a great many people find his plutocratic ways of this country unsustainable. One of those people is Joseph Epstein. Epstein writes in the article “Trump and the Plutocrats Hubris” about how he feels that it is wrong of Tump to think he will be a great president, just because he is a great businessman. In the piece, the author takes a subjective view on the matter and uses rhetorical devices such as diction and hyperboles to try and persuade the reader to think as he does.
“Presidents may be active or passive in terms of the effort invested in their jobs; they also may be positive or negative about their positions (Maltese, 164). In regards with President Bill Clinton and President Franklin D. Roosevelt, James Barber identifies them as an “Active-positive”. Active-positives display personal growth and stability, which they take pleasure in their job and the challenges they face with power productivity to pursue their objectives. Also, they pragmatic political figures that possess flexibility in their pursuit of achieving their goals and are willing to alter or abolishing their goals rather than experience severe consequences (Maltese, 164).
As the owner of a ten billion dollar empire, Trump has established a firm reality that he knows how to make money. He has also shown that he has the leadership capabilities to head a conglomerate with thousands of employees under his wing, and has shown to the people that he can handle this responsibility reliably. Some may argue that Trump has been unsuccessful in the past, as he declared corporate bankruptcy four times over his long and storied career (O'Connor). However, past instances of failure have not been able to stifle him in his pursuit of riches. Many are aware of the fact that some of the country’s greatest presidents have a failed business under their belt. The fact that Trump was able to pick up the pieces of his business after bankruptcy and reinvent his company time and again indicates that he should be applauded rather than
Trump’s problem is not so much what he’s done, but how he’s done it. I decided at the start that I wanted to profile him by describing his deals — not his lifestyle or his personality. After getting to know him, I realized that his deals are his life. He once told me: “I won’t make a deal just to make a profit. It has to have flair.” Another Manhattan developer said it differently: “Trump won’t do a deal unless there’s something extra — a kind of moral larceny — in it. He’s not satisfied with a profit. He has to take something more. Otherwise, there’s no thrill.”
The modern presidency has in a sense become a double-edged sword in that presidents have become beneficiaries of anything positive that can be attributed to government, but also can be blamed for anything bad occurring in society. Quite simply, the modern president has become the center of our political system (The Modern Presidency, 2004). The men who have dealt with this double-edged sword known as the modern presidency have often walked a very fine line between effectiveness and ineffectiveness, but all have attempted to use their power in one way or another.
Because of their positions in the government and their resulting influential abilities, presidents are either praised for advancing the nation, criticized for not doing anything to help the country, or even making the country’s situation worse. Their success as president is dependent on the success of the country. People don’t take into consideration the attempts presidents make, but only those things that help or hurt the country. This leaves room for there to be a good president who may not accomplish much and a bad president who may accomplish a lot.
The dictionary defines personal ambition as “An earnest desire for some type of achievement or distinction, as power, honour, fame, or wealth and the willingness to strive for its attainment”. (Dictionary.com) One could argue that too much ambition can be a negative trait. By placing such an emphasis on personal ambition it causes some to push their loved ones away in order to achieve what they want. Within most people, unhappiness is a common feeling and in extreme results, it leads to death. In the texts Fifth Business by Robertson Davies and William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, it is evident when the strongest characters place power and ambition above all else they crumble.
In the article, Trump stirs outrage after he lashes out at the Muslim parents of a dead U.S. soldier, by Jose A. DelReal and Anne Gearan, it summarizes that Donald Trump does not have what it is to be a president. Most of this has come from the fact that because his actions stirred commotions amongst the press and caused for people to think he does not have the qualities such as compassion to be president. Other people even went on to say that what he says is not even normal and worthy of saying that he has no redeemable qualities. As a result, from this event, a man named Khizr Khan talked back in opposition against Trump in his ideals about Muslims and immigrants. Afterwards, Trump gained an overwhelming amount of backlash from this and he
As young adults we are all aware of the camping’s that has been occurring through out the past few months. One of those participants happens to be Donald Trump, who follows the theory of CONFLICT. This theory describes how power from individuals is self-proclaimed. Trump is well known for the many assumptions he has made toward immigrants, primarily Hispanics and Asians. His view on these racial groups demonstrates his consideration toward social life and how it is a competition.
All of us possess ambition, that determination to achieve a particular goal. But when it comes to the ambition of a nation things can go well or have sour effects in the end. This trend is apparent in American history. Competition, good intention, and change have been large motivators of this aspiration in our country. Many significant events in U.S. history provide examples of both good and bad ambition. Is being so determined always a good quality?
Donald Trump before he became the 45th president, his famous campaign motto “Make America Great Again” caught the attention of many Americans, but mostly by white Americans. Trump’s tactics made him a very clever man throughout the election, he had many techniques on how to gain the American vote. Throughout his campaign, he was attentive of the men around him. For example, Trump knew exactly what to say to get the attention of the American people. He already had in mind who he was going to pick in position for foreign policy, national security, and defense (“Donald Trump is the ultimate Machiavellian prince”). With this intention, he brought comfort to Americans, yet the people he was going to pick for these positions all have a common trait, which was all of them are specialist in the Middle East and Russia. Not only, was Trump attentive of America, yet he kept in mind how it was going to affect
I honestly question whether, as a country, we have progressed from where we were hundreds of years ago. Our current situation is terrifying, and it seems that it is only going to keep getting worse. Evidence of this decaying acceptance of culture is seen in the current presidential race. We have a racist, overtly rich and misogynistic man running for the republican candidacy. Donald Trump is currently taking everything this country has worked for in terms of erasing the stigma of race and religion and throwing it in the garbage. The only comparison I can truly draw from Trump’s absurd ideas is that he believes something akin to the principle Adolf Hitler followed in fascist Germany. He is threatening to ban the muslim faith, eradicate
In today’s society, we are only entitled to make someone of ourselves if we are a victim with a hard-luck story. Some may say that Trump had been born with “a silver spoon in his mouth”, but they do not know the truth. Throughout his life, Trump has fought through bankruptcy and had to start over numerous times. However, he is more about wealth creation and he has a personal drive to accumulate wealth. America desperately needs someone with this mentality because we have drifted so far from seeking respect and instead expect people to hand things out to us instead of working for them.
Many of Trump’s obsessive tendencies can be traced back to his childhood, where he grew up with an overbearing father, who also happened to be a successful real estate mogul. Trump’s upbringing with his family had a long term influence on his development of OCD-like tendencies.
Donald Trump is known for his erraticism and exceptional businesses practices. He shows an eccentric leadership style, which is portrayed by numerous qualities. One of these is the need for power. This is revealed by all the
