In every society, in every community, in everyone’s life, you have been through or heard of a curfew. Curfews can result in many consequences good or bad. Some people say that there is no need for a curfew. That means where they live all the kids are good and well behaved. Otherwise from the book Outsiders there is a gang called the greasers who have beaten, cut, and hurt by another gang called the socs. Therefore a curfew would help the conflicts that have erupted on the greaser gang. Although some may disagree with having a curfew, it will help the greasers from the book Outsiders be safe. One consequence with having a curfew is the teen crime that goes around. Most people say that a curfew would not lower the teen crime that you see on the news. “ Studies of curfews in Tulsa, Oklahoma showed that arrests rose a myriad despite the curfew law.” According to what was just said people say that curfews don’t lower teen crime for towns or cities. However in the book Outsiders the crime is horrific, there is gang fights and robberies everywhere. A curfew would help the crime that has caused issues all over the town where the greasers live. “ Hey whatta ya know. He said a little unsteadily, “ Here’s the little greasers that picked up our girls.” In …show more content…
Otherwise people say that having a curfew is basically punishing the good children of the town. “ It is unfair to punish good kids who are out trying to make something of themselves when only a small percentage of young people are committing crimes.” Along with what was just said people are saying that the laws curfew is punishing good children. On the other hand the kids in the book Outsiders aren’t good so they need curfew. “ In New York Dally blew off steam in gang fights, but here, organized gangs are rarities.” A curfew it will help the people living the town from either being robbed or seeing boys like Dallas
Although having a curfew for it to be illegal for teenagers to be on the streets after ten o’clock p.m. on weekdays or after midnight on weekends would be beneficial in exceptional and deficient ways, many citizens will disagree with having a curfew. The eminently important reason Dierks, Arkansas, should have a teenage curfew is for the security of the teenagers. Another reason is for the parent to have control over their child, instead of their child being undisciplined. On the other hand, having a curfew could hinder maturity.
In the persuasive commentary. “Curfew A National Debate,” Barbara Bey argues that curfews are a bad idea. According to the author, “Curfews are one of many misguided anti-crime strategies” (474). Basically, Bey is saying when they make a curfew the government will not can not fight the criminals. I disagree with that because the curfews will help to the government to fight with the criminals.
Many people say that it is unfair to punish good kids by making this law, but they can hang out in the afternoon, or at each other houses if they wanted to. So, they are technically not being punished. The article states “From 1995 to 1999, the number of minors arrested for violent crimes dropped twenty-three percent.” If you look at Two Bit, Johnny, Ponyboy, Cherry, and Marcia walking home after the movie, they were nearly attacked by the Socs. “Listen Greasers, we got four more in the back seat… Then pity the backseat, if you're looking for a fight.” Both the Socs and Two Bit said, as the Socs got out of their Mustang. If the Socs or the Greasers were to have a curfew, this would have never
Sadly, the law is loosing a way to fight for public curfews. A public curfew is when the law has a curfew set for the town, and anyone who breaks the curfew gets arrested. In the book the Outsiders by S.E Hinton, a public curfew would have been highly unnecessary. Out of all of the main characters, Pony was the only one who had a curfew. In the book he normally had passed that time, and Darry was never balmy about it. Some reasons to support no curfew would be about crime, rights and the fact that the law “stands up for parents”.
However, it helps adults with kids that do not listen and keeps them in Earlier. Lots of adults have spoken out about how Law set curfews wouldn't help their child get inside earlier. “ We don’t need laws to keep our children in at a certain time”. If the greasers had set curfews for laws it would have kept them from bringing nuisance to the neighborhood. Anyway there is a benefit if curfews are set because many kids don’t listen to their parents but with a set curfew it can help get their kids in earlier.
A curfew is a set time people have to be indoors at night. Some argue that there should be curfews, and vice versa. In S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, it can be debated whether a curfew would have helped the characters or not. Almost the entirety of the book’s major events happen in the nighttime; some are good, but some are not. Although a curfew would have given the characters in The Outsiders some disadvantages, it would have helped them in the long run.
In many towns, in many states, and in many countries, there are curfews. In The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton, the boys Pony, Soda, and Darry have gone through many crimes that have coincidently occurred during the hours of the night. In the article, “Are Public Curfews Fair?” by ReadWorks, it discusses whether public curfews are fair or not, as the name suggests. A curfew may have helped the characters of The Outsiders, but by the way it looks, there are many reasons that show that curfews wouldn’t have helped the characters.
By having a curfew it stops teens from committing crimes, doing drugs, and drinking alcohol.Making a curfew gives teens less time to do these things. If they made a curfew these teens wouldn’t be able to get ahold of drugs and alcohol. From 1995 to 1999,curfew have dropped the amount of minor arrest for violent crimes by 23 percent. When Pony and Johnny were out late,a crime was committed.Johnny had killed a Soc named Bob out of self-defense.If there was a curfew, this crime would have never happened.
Although, Some people say that a curfew is not necessarily for keeping teens out of trouble. It is for keeping the town quiet at night and gives everyone some peaceful rest at night. In the article, “Manitoba town to ban kids at night”, the mayor of Killarney, Manitoba sates,” ‘It’s not that we have a big crime problem, we just have some youngsters out to all hours of the night disturbing the peace.’ ” An easier method for this is just to have a few police working at night to ensure peace. A demanding curfew that punishes many for doing nothing is simply unnecessary. “‘Ultimately, curfew laws don't make us more safe, but they make us less free,’ says Joe Cook, executive director of the Dallas ACLU” (Rosado and Manly).
An example of this instance happened to my friend from another city last year. After her school's prom ended, she and her date were waiting on the steps of the school to be picked up by their parents. However, her city also has a 10 pm curfew, and my friend and her date ended up being punished for being out "so late." These kids were just waiting for a ride from their parents, not one in the back of a police car. If a law has not served its purpose in maintaining order within the community and making people's lives easier, then it has failed. The purpose of this curfew is to keep teens out of trouble, but it fails to acknowledge the basic fact that not all teens are looking for trouble when they are out late at night, and that many of them have extenuating circumstances requiring them to be out, such as a job. Many times, it also fails to make exceptions for teens on the streets due to situations not in their control, and instead opts to slap the same charges on any young person out after curfew no matter what. Previous instances illustrating the failure of a curfew to actually help teens, and foreseeable instances of its failure in the future, have lead me to my current position
Just because they have a curfew it doesn’t mean that they aren’t going to get in trouble. It may limit the things they do. Which in turn limits the trouble they get in, but it doesn’t stop them from doing things to get them in trouble. (Wylie Tanton said on April 11, 2012 “I personally think teens shouldn't have a curfew because whether or not they have curfew teens still get themselves into trouble, not only during the night. http://www.collegenet.com/elect/app/app?service=external/Forum&sp=42891)
In addition to everything previously mentioned, curfews can also greatly improve a teenagers relationship with their parents. Knowing that your teenager is home safe and sound at a specific time definitely beats waiting up every weekend until the hours of the night wondering if he/she is
Do curfews keep teenagers out of trouble? This topic has always been on the cover page of today's newspaper headlines and a hot topic that has been discussed by every family. What are curfews like? A curfew is a time frame given by an authority like a parent or the government to teenagers below 18 to be home before a certain period of time. So, ask yourself, do you think that by implementing curfews into a teenager’s life, he or she would keep out of trouble. Our group has discussed and came to an agreement that curfews really do help teenagers keep out of trouble. Firstly, curfews help teenagers to stay
Curfews are ineffective and costly. Curfews are ineffective because most teenagers just ignore curfew and still get in trouble. “Mr. Pilbrow said a curfew would be costly and
Having a teenage curfew is ineffective and useless. Many people argue that the curfews are necessary because it will keep young people out of trouble. They also say that teenagers are more likely to get in trouble late than they would during daylight. Teens are looked at as the age group that causes the most trouble, and society targets them when it comes to matter for crime, however many people believe that teens are responsible for a large percentage of crimes and that having a curfew in effect will help lower crime rates. I disagree with this because I don't think teenagers should be forced to follow a ridged time schedule because of a curfew.
