Public Curfews are stupid.
Sadly, the law is loosing a way to fight for public curfews. A public curfew is when the law has a curfew set for the town, and anyone who breaks the curfew gets arrested. In the book the Outsiders by S.E Hinton, a public curfew would have been highly unnecessary. Out of all of the main characters, Pony was the only one who had a curfew. In the book he normally had passed that time, and Darry was never balmy about it. Some reasons to support no curfew would be about crime, rights and the fact that the law “stands up for parents”.
Pony and his gang were always out start some trouble, but a public curfew would be the least of their worries. Society thinks that a public curfew would minimize the amount of crime and
The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, is a book that is full of excitement, adventure, and real-life situations. The book starts out in the daily life of a 16-year-old boy named Ponyboy. He is a part of a group called “greasers” that battle with “socs” daily. The greasers are usually poor and the socs are usually rich. One night, Ponyboy and his friend, Johnny, are walking when they get jumped by a group of socs. One of them is attempting to drown Ponyboy in a fountain, but Johnny saves his friend and kills the soc with a switchblade. They quickly run to Dally to explain what happened. He gives the boys a gun, $50, and a place to hide. They jump on a train and hide out in an abandoned church. They stay in that church for a couple weeks, then Dally
My opinion is that curfew was set to protect minors but, there are plenty of reason why a minor would be out passed curfew and there should be system where some minors can exempt the law like having parental permission.
First and foremost, if the city council mandates the curfew law, they could help secure the protection of adolescence driving or hanging out at late hours of the night. Did you know that teenagers that are driving
The Outsiders, made in 1983, is based on the original book made in 1967, The Outsiders. The movie copied the same plot of the book heavily, as it still portrays the same main character, Ponyboy Curtis (played by Thomas C. Howell), a fourteen year old boy living with his two brothers. This one and a half hour film shows Ponyboy’s life as a greaser, as he experiences the positive and negative sides of his family life style, and questions the benefits of the greaser’s biggest enemy; the Socials.
The Outsiders is about three brothers, Darry, Sodapop, and Ponyboy, growing up on their own after their parents were killed in a car accident a short amount of time before the book started. They are all members of the greaser gang, rough kids who grew up rough, and often did not get along with their rival the Socs, rich kids who grew up privileged. The oldest of brothers, Darry, takes on the role of the father figure more responsible brother for the sake of his little brothers instead of growing up having the fun
The Outsiders describes a gang conflict between the Socs (rich kids) and the Greasers, the poorer people on earth. The novel is about two weeks in a life of a fourteen year old boy. The novel tells the story of Ponyboy and his brawls with life.
Some minors receive fines for curfew issues up to five hundred dollars, or even have to do work for the community. A curfew is a time you have to be in at night. Although many people in The Outsiders didn’t have a curfew, I believe if they had one, it would have helped them.
Violence accounts for 1.4 million deaths each year and most of them are because of appearances of people. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is a book about two gangs (Socs and Greasers) who have a negative relationship. This negative relationship leads to violence such as fighting and even stabbing. This happens because of the appearances of the gang members. If someone would dress as a greaser and walk up to a group of socs they would probably get beat up. The author S.E. Hinton wanted to address the readers that you should not judge someone by the outside of them and not use violence as the answer.
Ever thought that there could be something worth more in a person than the things they have? In the realistic fiction novel The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton, gangs are a major role in the aspect of high and low in the society. The Socs are considered elite because of their wealth and the Greasers are considered lessened. The two gangs are always looking for a good fight especially the Socs. In a result to this, it remains rare for a Soc to get along with a Greaser. Cherry finds herself drawn to the fact that she can express herself more conversing with the Greasers. Cherry has a boyfriend Bob because as a Soc that is the type of Boyfriend expected of her to have. She adds that she could fall in love with Dally, she is attracted to his out take on life and his bad boy personality. She admires that he does not have to pretend to be someone else.
In many towns, in many states, and in many countries, there are curfews. In The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton, the boys Pony, Soda, and Darry have gone through many crimes that have coincidently occurred during the hours of the night. In the article, “Are Public Curfews Fair?” by ReadWorks, it discusses whether public curfews are fair or not, as the name suggests. A curfew may have helped the characters of The Outsiders, but by the way it looks, there are many reasons that show that curfews wouldn’t have helped the characters.
Although, Some people say that a curfew is not necessarily for keeping teens out of trouble. It is for keeping the town quiet at night and gives everyone some peaceful rest at night. In the article, “Manitoba town to ban kids at night”, the mayor of Killarney, Manitoba sates,” ‘It’s not that we have a big crime problem, we just have some youngsters out to all hours of the night disturbing the peace.’ ” An easier method for this is just to have a few police working at night to ensure peace. A demanding curfew that punishes many for doing nothing is simply unnecessary. “‘Ultimately, curfew laws don't make us more safe, but they make us less free,’ says Joe Cook, executive director of the Dallas ACLU” (Rosado and Manly).
Just because they have a curfew it doesn’t mean that they aren’t going to get in trouble. It may limit the things they do. Which in turn limits the trouble they get in, but it doesn’t stop them from doing things to get them in trouble. (Wylie Tanton said on April 11, 2012 “I personally think teens shouldn't have a curfew because whether or not they have curfew teens still get themselves into trouble, not only during the night. http://www.collegenet.com/elect/app/app?service=external/Forum&sp=42891)
In 1980 a low-budget South African film was released which over the years has not only spawned a number of sequels, but took a rather humorous look at the cultural differences between so-called "primitive" cultures and the modern world. The film was called "The Gods Must Be Crazy," was written and directed by South African filmmaker Jamie Uys, and called by the New York Magazine "pure play, an amiable shaggy-dog story in which the awesome wilderness serves as an adaptable prop." (Denby, 47) It told the story of a Ju/hoansi bushman who journeyed to the end of the Earth to discard a Coke bottle; and along the way encountered the modern world for the very first time. Modern society was presented through the eyes of a person who had never encountered it before, and while the interaction was often portrayed as hilarious, it also provided a interesting view of the modern world from a most unlikely source.
In regards to the argument in support of capital punishment, the means do not come from thinking about the death penalty in theoretical ways, but is justified as a form of retribution for individual cases. Certainty, instances of individual stories are important, however, dangers do exist as a result of such stories dictating the overall thinking about an issue that has profound social consequences. Abolitionists argue that capital punishment has never been proved to be effective in deterring others from committing murder, thus, the evil that follows capital punishment far overshadows any possible beneficial factors the opposing argument may state. Quite the reverse, murder demonstrates a lack of respect for the human life. Any life is valuable
