During my college career I was introduced to crime scene technology, procedures for sketching, diagramming and using casting materials. I was also taught the concepts of forensic chemistry, fingerprint classification/identification and latent techniques, drug identification, hair and fiber evidence, death investigation techniques, thin-layer chromatographic methods, and arson materials
As human overpopulation increases, there will be a lack of resources and basic necessities that will become scarcer elevating crime rates. The broad field of forensics has numerous jobs that specialize in a specific duty. It provides and analyzes evidence in laboratories or offices that helps both state and local police departments solve crimes. As technology advances it also aids in the advancement of forensics. Forensic Science Technicians are required to have a variety of distinctive skills to assist in criminal investigations.
Tashanna N Garcia is currently enrolled in the Masters of Criminal Justice, with a concentration in Forensic Science, program at Saint Leo University. Tashanna comes from a military background where she served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. Her military training was essential to her transition into law enforcement, where she spent the last ten years working for two police departments as a patrol officer and then for the Alabama Department of Public Safety as a Traffic Homicide Investigator for the State Troopers. On October 13th, 1982, at approximately 1:15 a.m. the neighbors of Queenie Volupides had reported that Queenie tore out of the house after an argument with her husband, Arthur. She quickly got in her Mustang convertible and sped away. Queenie stated that she went to the couple’s country club for a party that was going on to celebrate the opening of the new golfing range. But I believe this was just the beginning of her scheme. I affirm that Queenie has murdered her husband Arthur. (Claim)
I have always loved suspenseful whodunit television shows, movies, and books that use forensic science to crack the cases. My favorite television show is The First 48, my favorite movie is The Silence of the Lambs, and my favorite book is The Body Farm. Therefore, I was excited to have the opportunity to take this course and learn even more about the subject of forensics. This essay gives a summary of N. E. Genge’s book, The Forensic Casebook: The Science of Crime Scene Investigation, and includes the things I disliked and liked about the book.

Forensics is divided into fields of specialties covering a wide range of different sciences: Physiological/social sciences, forensic criminalistics, digital forensics and other related disciplines. The most noted fields, which people associate with forensics, are fingerprint analysis, ballistics, DNA profiling and toxicology however the everyday public is unaware the forensic field also includes fire investigation, forensic engineering, and even vehicular accident reconstruction. Within the last twenty years, due to the advances in technology and science, many new disciplines have come into fruition.
Hollywood is famous for producing big, edge of your seat movie blockbusters and addictive television series. Audiences are captivated by horrors films, science fiction productions and murder suspense thrillers. Yet, within the last few decades, a new genre of television has emerged; that of forensic crime dramas. The most popular of these is probably the primetime hit CSI Las Vegas. The series producers shifted the focus from the traditional focus on the police detective, to the sophisticated science behind evidence interpretation.
Today, more than ever, the quality of evidence in criminal cases is scrutinized because of contamination. Contamination is the introduction of something that physically corrupts a substance at a crime scene that was not previously there; it comes in many forms and most often times comes from the humans who investigate a crime scene. It is imperative that prevention of cross-contamination is implemented when gathering evidence. Several of the more sensitive forensic techniques such as trace analysis, bloodspatter interpretation, and DNA comparison are not being used to their fullest potential. Items of physical crime scene evidence are not always visible to the naked eye and may be easily overlooked so deliberate and methodical approach to collection and preservation of evidence is essential. Prosecutors have lost cases due to crime scene contamination; this could be prevented by simple and productive behaviors. The U.S. Supreme Court, in a leading case on physical evidence, stated:
If a murder, a homicide and or a suicide occur, the crime scene investigator(s) collects the clues and evidence that will be analyzed by the forensic scientist(s) which can lead them to their suspect(s). The purpose of a Crime Scene Investigation is to help victims find justice.
The different types of specialists there are different types of specialists in forensic science like a ballistics specialists that specializes in firearms and things like that. Other types of specialists are like forensic anthropology that deals with bones and skulls. There is basically a different type of forensic scientists for every type of crime that there is. Ballistic specialists deal with firearms and they deal with collecting and analyzing firearms and ammunition. Some different types of things they’d deal with that have to deal with firearms and ammunition are like studying marks left on ammunition. Ballistic specialists have to have education is firearms and ammunition. Ballistic experts need at least a bachelor’s in forensic science. Some of the core requirements are

Senior Detective Caleb Galsworth wasn’t alone when he arrived at the crime scene today; he was accompanied by a petite, young, dark man no one has seen before. Over their heads, thundercloud rolled in heavy, massive blankets, booming and crackling with charged energy. The air was wet and secret, pregnant with corruption and deaths. Together, the odd pair crossed the crime scene tape and walked up the driveway.
